Is EV demand going to pok? Was BMW's cautious EV strategy actually correct? https://www.forbes.com/sites/timtreadgold/2019/10/17/demand-crash-on-the-ev-highway-hits-battery-metals/amp/ 4,183 views|Oct 17, 2019,9:10 pm Demand Crash On The EV Highway Hits Battery Metals Tim TreadgoldContributor Asia A collapse in sales of electric vehicles in China has triggered a chain reaction up the raw materials pipeline and raised fresh questions about the short-term future of EVs without heavy-duty government subsidies. What rocked supporters of the EV industry earlier this week was a report from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers that sales of new-energy vehicles, a description that include full electric and hybrids, fell 34.2% in September compared with the same month last year. Explanations for the sharp decline range from consumer concern about a reduction of government incentives to buy an EV, to lingering doubts about how far an EV can travel without a power top-up (range anxiety). China passport holders to get automated clearance at immigration ... So, looks like automated will not be faster anymore from 16 Nov onwards .... and with this increase in numbers, would this cause inconvenience to us, Singaporeans? Only time will tell ... http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/china-passport-holders-get-automated-clearance-immigration SINGAPORE — From Nov 16, eligible Chinese citizens will be able to use the enhanced immigration automated clearance system (eIACs) service at Singapore’s checkpoints, announced the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) today (Nov 6). China passport holders above the age of six are eligible to enrol for the automated service. They must also hold a valid five-year (or longer) Multiple Journey Visa issued by Singapore and have visited Singapore at least three times in the preceding 12 months, Enrolment is on a voluntary service and is free of charge. Interested applicants should bring their passport (with remaining validity of at least six months), one recent colour passport-size photograph and other relevant documents to the enrolment centres located at Changi Airport, Woodlands Checkpoint, Tuas Checkpoint and the ICA Building to apply for this service. Those aged between six and 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and present documentary proof of relationship. The ICA said the move will provide greater travel convenience for Chinese visitors and facilitate trade, business and tourism links between Singapore and China. Currently the service is also available to Australian and Hong Kong citizens, as well as Malaysian citizens who are assessed to be eligible under the Frequent Traveller Programme at the time of application.

yucks...saw many news on this matter on FB and other media liao. think we have to cook and eat at home liao... What could this huge ass thing be? According to speculators online, it could be used for "Gutter oil". According to Tony Keng Hong Tan, who took the photo, policemen are guarding this mobile setup as of 1025am today. What is Gutter oil? : Gutter oil (simplified Chinese: 地沟油; traditional Chinese: 地溝油; pinyin: Dìgōu yóu) is a term used in China to describe illicit cooking oil which has been recycled from waste oil collected from sources such as restaurant fryers, sewer drains, grease traps and slaughterhouse waste. Reprocessing is often very rudimentary; techniques include filtration, boiling, refining and the removal of adulterants. It is then packaged and resold as a cheaper alternative to normal cooking oil. Another version of gutter oil uses discarded animal parts, animal fat and skins, internal organs, and expired or otherwise low-quality meat which is then cooked in large vats in order to extract the oil. Used kitchen oil can be purchased for between 859 and 937 dollars per ton while the cleaned and refined product can sell for 1,560 per ton. Thus there is great economic incentive to produce and sell gutter oil. It is estimated that up to one in every ten lower market restaurant meals consumed in China is prepared with gutter oil. This high prevalence is due to what Feng Ping of the China Meat Research Center has made clear: "The illegal oil shows no difference in appearance and indicators after refining and purification because the law breakers are skillful at coping with the established standards." - From Wikipedia

Now china and hk got war thanks to this incident. Chinese want to boycott hk by not travelling to HK. http://www.wantchinatimes.com/news-subclass-cnt.aspx?id=20140425000094&cid=1103 The toddler in question relieving herself on the street in Hong Kong. (Internet photo) The toddler in question relieving herself on the street in Hong Kong. (Internet photo) Chinese internet users have launched a travel boycott of Hong Kong set to begin on June 1 in response to a debate that broke out online in the wake of an incident wherein Hong Kong citizens took photos of a Chinese couple encouraging their daughter to urinate in a street in Hong Kong, after not being able to find a public toilet in time, according to Duowei News, a media outlet run by overseas Chinese. As the debate rages on, some internet users have suggested more extreme action according to Taiwan's SET News, who cited a post on a mainland web forum called Tianya, which called for mainlanders to bring their kids to Hong Kong on the May 1 holiday to urinate and defecate on the street. A video of the incident that sparked the controversy was caught by a Hong Kong citizen on his mobile device on April 15 and went viral after being uploaded to the internet. The parents of the child and some passersby who intervened were brought to the local police station. The father of the child was granted unconditional release, while the mother was released on bail. It is said that she has to report to the Hong Kong police in mid-May. This debate over the incident is just one of a series of contentious issues that have seen the rise of anti-Chinese sentiment in Hong Kong, including mainlanders being criticized for traveling to Hong Kong to buy milk powder, in the midst of a scare over powdered milk being sold in the mainland, which made it difficult for local residents to access powdered milk themselves. Expectant mothers have also been criticized for using what Hong Kong residents see as underhand tactics to give birth in the special administrative region, in order to get Hong Kong citizenship for their baby, such as waiting until labor onsets and then rushing into the emergency room to secure a maternity bed for themselves, creating a shortage in maternity beds for local women. The boycott is going under the modest slogan, "I'm a consumer, I am god," according to Duowei news. Hong Kong internet users have reacted by asking protesters to make sure the boycott happens, and asking that the start date be brought forward to May 1.
