Anyone know what's the max CPF relief that a Singaporean can get for YA 2012? The information on IRAS website is kinda confusing. So to estimate my YA 2012's CPF relief, i am just using my YA 2011 Notice as a gauge. (i guess my actual CPF relief for YA 2012 shd be higher since my earning is higher yr-on-yr). Also, if our ICT liability is over, that means we are no longer considered as "NSMan" right? Now, trying to bring down my personal income tax bracket, i am pondering if i shd be: 1) SRS: at least i can still withdraw before retirement but subj to 5% penalty and be brought to tax, and can use for investment. Helps if i really need cash all a sudden. 2) CPF top-up (but cant remember gng to which accounts): generally earn higher interest rates, but bane is locked down till retirement. No way out. Any experts out there to advise, or pple who has gone through the same route and have experience to share?

https://www.straitstimes.com/opinion/forum/forum-seniors-should-not-stand-in-the-way-of-younger-staff Forum: Seniors should not stand in the way of younger staff Singapore must tread carefully in handling the issue of raising the retirement and re-employment ages. Care must be taken not to cause resentment on the part of younger workers. Workers in their prime (early to late 30s) might not be able to advance in the company's hierarchy if the seniors above them won't retire. Older workers who can afford to retire early should give the younger generation a chance to climb up. They can always volunteer or offer mentorship to the young if they are bored with retirement. If too many seniors cling to their jobs even when they don't need them, there may be fewer opportunities for the next generation. Francis Cheng Seems that old folks not needed in our country, just like what COVID-19 is doing to us.

The evidence supporting the lack of an app drawer in the Android N release is really starting to stack up. The just-announced LG G5 has no app drawer and while the Galaxy S7 does have an app drawer, there is a hidden setting to remove it. All of this is making it look increasingly likely that Google is indeed planning to ditch one of Android’s most recognizable features. http://www.androidauthority.com/exclusive-android-n-may-not-have-an-app-drawer-674571/ http://www.androidauthority.com/android-n-no-app-drawer-evidence-lg-g5-samsung-galaxy-s7-675315/ Android becoming iPhone liao!

Think before dumping parents in home Those who dump their parents in homes ought to realise that they will eventually meet the same fate, says this writer. my paper By Ronnie Poon In the corporate and business world, it is called succession planning when staff with potential are trained and groomed to provide the next level of support and leadership. They are given all the opportunities, resources and exposure to prepare them for the career path ahead. This is no different from similar preparation in the political arena. At home, the same is also true. Many families, especially Chinese ones, want a son to carry on the family name. The son is favoured not only for his role in maintaining the roots of the ancestral tree, but also his ability to provide, hopefully, an umbrella for his parents in their old age. Parents these days are prepared to have smaller families so that they can give their children the best life can offer. It is not uncommon for some parents to even buy their children a car or a marital home. Call these actions by whatever name you want, but it all boils down to two fundamental reasons: kiasuism and over-pampering. The hope is that their children will take care of them or provide them with a roof over their heads when they are old or sick. However, there are many cases where grown-up children regard looking after parents and parents- in-law as a cost and a liability. The most popular option these days is to send the parents to an old-age home, where they remain for the rest of their days. Usually, the more well-to-do the family is, the more commonly this option is taken. This is because it doesn't come cheap. The reasons (or excuses) are various: Everyone is working, there's no one to take care of them, the house is too small, the children are growing up and there are not enough rooms. Or: Why me, when there are other sons? No wonder nursing homes are doing so well. Families are passing the buck to others just because they can afford to pay. Many residents in old folk's homes have not had a single visitor in weeks, months or even years after their admission. Imagine the loneliness of aged parents as they face four walls, with no one to talk to. Being immobile, it's worse than serving a jail sentence. The reality of life in a nursing homes is eat, sleep and wait for death. Interestingly enough, sending parents away to nursing homes does not contravene the three-generation HDB concept (as the aged still keep the same registered address). Dependants can still pocket an annual government grant given to those who share the same address as their aged parents. Those who dump their parents in homes ought to realise that they will eventually meet the same fate. The day of reckoning will come when their own children follow their footsteps and let them have a taste of their own bitter medicine.

Who plans their journey before setting off? Planning includes: -determining the tasks to perform..doing the furthermost tasks 1st -estimating the time needed for the journey..setting off earlier in anticipation of heavy traffic -using tools to aid in driving smoothly and less hastily eg. GPS, traffic apps, check the internet for traffic news or traffic cams -planning the route..eg. checking traffic info before setting off, think of alternative routes in case of jams and heavy traffic Does it help u in any way? For me, it helps tremendously..it enables me to drive smoothly, save fuel and frustration and also to reduce the chance of accidents..and in the event of encountering jams..i can change route easily..and also filter to the correct lane in advance to exit causing less inconvenience to others

I am planning to do an engine oil roundup. I will try to build or acquire a timken OK bearing load machine to simulate bearing load. Types of test I am thinking of. 1. Room temp test (like what those commercials do) 2. Engine temp test. Hardly see this. Basically heat the oil to 100C and see how it performs compared to room temp. 3. Additive test (see if additives work or not) 4. Oil soak test (some oils/additives claim particles will adhere to metal parts) 5. "Dry" test. As in soak the bearing in oil for 24hrs, then leave it hanging to dry for 24hrs. See how much protection is left. 6. Used oil test. Eg. how good is the oil after 2000/4000KM etc. Any suggestions?

I believe Financial Planning is not uncommon. I believe it's better to get a 2nd opinion on my insurance coverage. But how often is it recommended to do Financial Planning? Anyone facing the same dilemma as me?

When i first visit Japan Railway/MRT station...i notice that the station is longer than the train... I also notice that in Thailand (maybe because Thailand railway was done by Japan)... with this limitation, it is impossible for SMRT to increase the no of carriage per train... which I think is a easier and cheaper way to increase capacity... rather than spend money on the switching/lighting control... which spend millions for just marginal increase in capacity.... What projection SMRT or the government had done when they place the order for the MRT? when we started the MRT, out population was like 3 millions or less. if we are planning 4 millions or 5 millions population, the supporting infrastructure should be there too..is the authority are slacking and become short-sighted?

Now that Jaguar is safely housed under the umbrella of Tata Motors, the British marque is planning a major expansion of its current lineup. In addition to a rumored BMW 3 Series fighter, Jaguar is looking to take aim at the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class coupe with a stately two-door based off of the new-for-2011 XJ sedan. According to Automobile magazine, sources within Jaguar say that the XJ coupe will feature a pillarless greenhouse design, glass roof and will use separate sheetmetal from the sedan it's based on. Adrian Hallmark, brand manager for Jaguar in Europe, says that the two-door XJ will be "much more dynamic and emotional than a Mercedes CL." Hallmark also told Automobile that Jaguar is considering a whole slew of new models, including an XF wagon, high-end sports car based on the C-X75 concept, a crossover based on the Range Rover Evoque and even a possible shooting break version of either the next-generation XF or entry-level 3 Series competitor. hi guys.am planning to go on honeymoon to new york.......any1 has any idea how much it cost ?? just for accommodation(no need 5 start type but must be safe neighbourhood) , flight

I believe the downturn will hit in the next 12 months. Am thinking of selling my 5 rm flat in exchange for a cheap 3rm flat or just cash out and wait. Have got alternative accomodation. However it seems the prices of HDB flats are seemingly very resilient. With the Govt's policy of further increasing the FT numbers beyond the 1M mark, maybe the prices may not dip so much. Inflation is oso another big concern. So holding onto cash if the expected recession does not materialise will be a big mistake. What do you guys think?

With the help of a Australian/NZ emigration agent, he could have easily obtain the PR and continue enjoying his $$$$ outside of Singapore. Hello...not $100k or $500k leh....its a fooking $1.8mil....thats an impossible amt of lifetime salary for many! Yet, he blew it away. On another note....jail 7.5years....maybe he did not blew it all away at Casino as claimed. Maybe he did won double at Genting, Maybe the money is with his wife/mistress/relatives in malaysia. Who can earn $1million in 7.5 years? $2m cheat blows it all on gambling Elena Chong Tue, Jun 10, 2008 The Straits Times A CUSTOMER service executive siphoned almost $2 million from his company over two years, and then lost it all in casinos. A district court heard that while under probe for his sprees in Genting Highlands and on cruise ships, Ng Ting Hwa, 32, lied to get himself a new passport - and promptly left town to visit casinos. In just six months from December 2006 to May last year, he blew $826,500 at the gaming tables. He has paid back only $72,500 of that sum. Yesterday, Ng was jailed a total of 71/2 years. He is single and holds a Bachelor of Science, Banking and Finance degree from the University of London at the Singapore Institute of Management. The court heard that in 2004, he started working at Molnlycke Health Care Asia-Pacific, a leading provider of medical products. From April 2005 till May last year, he sent his company's goods to Econworldwide Medical Group, an importer of branded health products. Except for two occasions, Econworldwide paid Ng in cash or with cheques made out to him, rather than to his company. In all, he pocketed $1.96 million from 35 shipments to Econworldwide. It was only in May last year that his company's finance and logistics director raised the alarm over the many suspicious transactions in which goods had been shipped, but no payment received. When confronted, Ng admitted that he had made use of the company's sales and distribution software system to prepare invoices and arrange for the goods to be delivered. After the police took away his passport during the investigation, he decided to take a short break, according to his lawyer, Ms Hemalatha Silwaraju. Ng went to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), claimed that he had lost his passport and obtained a new one. He used it to make several trips, including to Genting Highlands and a cruise ship's casino. Deputy Public Prosecutors Amarjit Singh and Ong Luan Tze, asking for a stiff sentence, said Ng was unrepentant and had scant regard for the law and his company's trust in him. Of his lying to get a replacement passport, Mr Amarjit said: 'He did not even have a valid reason to leave the country. Instead, he took a few leisure trips out, purportedly to gamble yet again!' District Judge Thian Yee Sze said it was outrageous for Ng to have left Singapore with ill-gotten money, and imposed a rare jail term of 11/2 years for each of two charges under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act, which makes it criminal for proceeds of a crime to be moved out of Singapore. For lying to the ICA to get a new passport, he was jailed another two years; the rest of his jail term was imposed for two counts of criminal breach of trust. Ng, who pleaded guilty last month to six charges, had 12 others considered during sentencing. His lawyer, Ms Silwaraju, said that he regretted his offences, had cooperated with the authorities and had become involved in community work. But Judge Thian was not impressed. She said Ng's offences were pre-meditated and planned, and he had no regard for the administration and enforcement of justice. The court took a grave view of such conduct, she said, adding that a deterrent sentence was called for to warn others against committing similar offences.
