  1. Watch the video. I think it's a great idea. Use plastic waste and maybe get a longer lasting road that don't break down as much.

  3. From Yahoo!News Are Singaporeans a happy lot? Not quite, if the latest Happy Planet Index (HPI) is anything to go by. The index measures how governments from around the world provide long, happy and sustainable lives for their people, based on three factors: life expectancy, happiness and environmental sustainability. The results from the 2012 study, which was released on Thursday, ranked Singapore a lowly 90th out of 151 countries. Coming in top for the second year running is Costa Rica, while the highest-ranked Asian country is Vietnam (second). Hong Kong, in 102th position, is the only Asian nation that is ranked lower than Singapore. Singapore scored well in life expectancy and well-being, but did poorly in environmental sustainability. Overall, it scored 39.8. The Lion City performed better in the same study done in 2009, where it was ranked 49 out of 143 countries, with a score of 48.2. But its showing this year is an improvement from 2006, where it came in at 131st position, out of 178 countries, with a score of just 36.1. 5. Are we even on the same planet? While the whole wide world braces for the impact of price increases in oil, food and commodities, Parliament has quietly moved to increase the selected president's salary to $4,267,500, a hefty 20.8% quantum jump of $890,700. That's double the percentage increase of the financial assistance package for the poor, which was recently adjusted from $360 to $400 per month. If you haven't spewed your morning coffee yet, listen to this. Minister Thaman proposed the change for "recruitment of an additional staff officer to support the work of the Council of Presidential Advisers and a butler manager to meet increased demand for butler services, and the high variable payments on account of a strong economic growth". We know from Tom Plate's account that Lee Kuan Yew has two staff just to provide hot towels for his aching bones, but are there so many butlers there in the Istana that they need a "butler manager" to supervise the servants? It's bad enough to read of "higher variable payments", Tharman also uses the term '"ad hoc spending". Does the national budget also have a YOG styled "other costs" accounting entry? Tharman tried to downplay the gross abuse of public funds by saying that the total expenditure for the "Civil List for the President of the Republic of Singapore" will be the same as the revised 2010 figure of $11,605,000. What he did not say to the public is that the original 2010 figure was $10,354,700. Why and when was the number "revised" by $1,250,300 to $11,605,000? Just in time for the 2011 budget? By the way, while sky rocketing COEs are threatening the affordability of cars for those who need to drive for work purposes, these guys have also decided that the president needs a new office car. Are we even on the same planet?
  6. Pacquiao backs speed to conquer Cotto (CNN) -- Manny Pacquiao believes his lightening hand speed will help him triumph over Miguel Cotto's raw power as he bids to take his World Boxing Organization welterweight title in Las Vegas on Saturday. The 30-year-old Filipino former flyweight world title-holder is hoping to become a five-weight world champion when he takes on Puerto Rican champion Cotto at the MGM Grand Hotel. Pacquiao's major titles have come in a weights ranging from 112 to 140 pounds but despite moving up to different classes he is confident he has kept his speed which will give them the advantage against Cotto. "My speed is still there. If you have speed then you generate your own power. We know that he is bigger than me and stronger than me but we studied his style for the past two months and we have our strategy," he said. "I feel stronger at this weight than I ever have. My punches are harder, my speed is intact. I keep getting warned about Cotto's body attack but Cotto should be worried about my body attack. "Cotto is the champion for this fight and he is not as easy as what people think. I don't take this fight lightly. He trained hard for this fight that is why we have to focus. Speed, power and being smart will lead to success. It's going to be a great fight between two great fighters. --Manny Pacquiao "I am prepared for anything he has to offer. I have studied all his tapes, and I feel like I know him like I know myself. "Speed, power and being smart will lead to success. It's going to be a great fight between two great fighters." Despite moving up to welterweight Pacquiao confirmed at the pre-fight press conference that he will not move any further up the weight divisions. He added: "No, no, no that is enough. It is amazing to even myself and I can't believe I can fight at 147 pounds. "I started at 105 pounds but right now my speed is still the same. My goal in my boxing career is to always keep the speed even if I move up to high weight division because if you have speed you can create your power." Pacquiao, rated by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, presents one of the toughest challenges of Cotto's career, but the 29-year-old is confident he can defend his title. Cotto said: "I'm prepared for the speed of Manny. My hand speed is pretty equal to Manny's. But can Manny's power equal Miguel Cotto's on Saturday night? "I know what I'm capable of doing, and there is no doubt in my mind that I'm going to win this fight." Cotto also refuted suggestions he was being underestimated by the Pacquiao camp, which has been touting the possibility of mouth-watering bout with American great Floyd Mayweather Jr next year. He added: "I'm focused on this fight. When I beat him this Saturday, he can think about whatever opponents he wants."
