I cannot believe my ears that old and poor peasants who cannot get government subsidies will be ask to consider JB nursing homes! Why on earth government do not want to subsidies old and poor peasants??!!

So those who say need car cannot complain about car too expensive cannot buy. Rich people don't have to bother about queuing up for COE. Just pay and get the car.

Heard on the radio that the PM saying how Spores strong national reserves is going to help weather the current crisis??? I was puzzled as to how its relevant to ordinary peasants. The cost of electricity, food, oil, .... is up. Can anyone tell me how the state of the national reserves is going to help me?

Lawmaker booted after remark 22/04/2008 12:02 - (SA) StevenK Paulson Denver - A state legislator in Colorado known for kicking a photographer was ordered to leave the podium during a legislative session after referring to Mexican workers as "illiterate peasants". Republican state Rep Douglas Bruce, who has a history of provoking controversy, made the comment during debate on Monday on a bill that would allow the state to help immigrant workers get temporary federal visas. The measure is intended to ease a shortage of farm workers in the state. "I would like to have the opportunity to state at the microphone why I don't think we need 5 000 more illiterate peasants in Colorado," Bruce said. His outburst drew an audible gasp from the House. "How dare you," said state Rep Kathleen Curry, a Democrat who was serving as chairperson during the debate. She told the Republican lawmaker he was no longer recognised to speak. House Minority Leader Mike May, head of the Republican caucus, said legislative leaders were trying to determine what action to take against Bruce. Rep Terrance Carroll, a Democrat, said the remark could result in a formal ethics complaint that would require a hearing and possible suspension, censure or expulsion. Bruce later defended his remarks. "I looked up 'illiterate' in the dictionary and it means somebody who is lacking in formal education or is unable to read and write," he said. "I don't think these people who are planning to come over here and pick potatoes or peaches are likely to have much of a formal education. I looked up the word 'peasant'. The word 'peasant' means a person who works in agricultural fields. "These people, most of them, don't speak English. Most of them haven't had any formal education, that's why they're coming over here. I don't blame them for trying, but I don't think we should pave the way for more aliens to come here," he said. Eduardo Arnal, the Consul General of Mexico in Denver, called Bruce's remarks "unfortunate" and "offensive". "I believe these types of comments do not contribute to the discussion on immigration between Mexico and the United States nor in the search of solutions regarding this topic," Arnal said. Bruce became the first Colorado lawmaker censured by the state House after he kicked a newspaper photographer for taking his picture during a prayer. Republicans later removed him from the powerful State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee because he refused to co-sponsor a resolution honouring military veterans. 330,000 taxpayers will not need to file tax returns By Chua Hian Hou PUBLIC servant Sandra Seah was pleasantly surprised - for once - to get a mail from the taxman recently. The letter informed the 33-year-old that she need not have to file her tax returns as the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (Iras) has all the information to assess her taxes. This tax season, 332,000, or one in five taxpayers, will get their income tax assessed automatically. Following a pilot run of 45,000 taxpayers last year, Iras has extended its No-Filing Service to these 332,000 taxpayers this year. Letters informing these taxpayers that they do not have to file their tax returns were sent out by Iras in the last few weeks. Most of them typically work for companies that submit employees' pay directly to the Iras, and have a regular history of tax relief and income sources. About 7,500 companies here employing about 1.4 million staff send salary information to Iras directly, although not all are required to file tax returns. Based on this data, Iras will assess the taxes payable, said Iras' deputy commissioner for individual group James Khor. Those who wish to check or make changes to their tax returns, such as claiming relief for a child born last year or declaring additional rental income, can do so via Iras' e-filing website or through their income tax assessment forms. Iras said it has received about 3,000 calls and e-mail queries since it sent out the no-filing notification letters. Of these, 800 wanted to be 'reassured' that the letter was not a hoax, said Mr Khor. Taxpayers who do not file their tax returns, or who file them late, may be fined. Repeat offenders can be fined up to $1,000. Iras intends to extend the new service to more taxpayers over time, said Mr Khor. Eventually, only self-employed taxpayers, and those with irregular, untaxed income sources like rental income, will have to continue to file tax returns every year. Ordinarily, about 1.5 million people are required to file tax returns, out of a total full-time and part-time working population of 2.7 million. The remaining 1.2 million workers earn less than $22,000 annually, and as such do not have to file tax returns.
