https://www.thedrive.com/news/42877/french-police-getting-alpine-a110-patrol-cars-for-rapid-intervention-duty "French Police Getting Alpine A110 Patrol Cars for ‘Rapid Intervention’ Duty The mid-engined sports cars will be used primarily for rural patrols. Police vehicles are normally fairly regular cars. Typically, four-door sedans and SUVs get outfitted with all the law enforcement gear, with plenty of room in the back to stow people in handcuffs. Every now and then, however, a police force lays its hands on something a bit special. The National Gendarmerie in France have done just that, ordering a fleet of Alpine A110 sports cars, as reported by Motor1. The National Gendarmerie is one of France's two national police forces, and is charged with the policing of smaller towns, rural, and suburban areas. The force will order 26 examples of the Alpine A110 Pure, as per a French-language press release from the Ministry of Interior. The vehicles will be used to "carry out interventions on the motorway involving high-speed offenders, as a part of road safety or other police missions." The Alpine A110 is a fine choice for an interceptor vehicle, combining deft handling with quick acceleration. Sporting a turbocharged 1.8-liter engine good for 249 horsepower, the A110 can accelerate to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. It should prove more than capable of apprehending the average Peugeot hatchback that decides to make a dash for freedom. Unlike out-and-out supercars, the Alpine A110 is also relatively affordable, coming in at €58,400 Euros, or roughly $68,000 USD for a base model in France. Alpine's parent company Renault won the supply contract in an open tender, and the vehicles are to be customized by French vehicle conversion company Durisotti. Thus, police are probably paying a fair whack over the base retail price in order to get the cars fitted out as needed. The hot police car trope is a well-worn one at this point; some are merely for show, while others actually head out on patrol. Florida's Highway Patrol famously put a Mercury Marauder into service, while police in Japan have often found the Nissan GT-R to be a useful platform. More often than not, however, these vehicles primarily serve as a public relations tool rather than a day-to-day police vehicle. However, given that the National Gendarmerie have ordered 26 A110s, it seems more likely they'll be doing plenty of real work out and about in rural France. You'd want to be in something suitably quick if you're planning to drop a gear and disappear, but remember: you can't outrun a radio."

Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs & Trade and Industry, S Iswaran, said this is to ensure self-discipline and reinforce the message that motorists should follow to traffic rules at all times. Traffic Police will also form a dedicated patrol team that will focus on motorcyclists. The last time time Traffic Police used unmarked patrol cars was in 2004. Mr Iswaran announced this at the launch of the 5th Bukit Batok Driving Centre Ride Safe 2012 campaign today. Last year, there were 193 traffic accident fatalities, up from 183 in 2009. Hi fellow iPhones smartphones users , came across this interesting free application I downloaded on iPhone called the parkpatrol. It is actually an application to alert drivers of the known parking warden lurking around your current location with the help of google map. Not only you can be alerted by known warden on duty lurking near you contributed by other application users, you yourself can contribute your share by pressing on the red button clocking your currently location alerting other drivers near your ares that you have spotted one on duty that moment!! User can key in the period of time your car be parking there without coupons or places not supposing to stating the distant you are away from danger allowing you to gauge and have advance time to move youf car. The more the merrier for users to download that application. Like facebook, not point having few to joint as you can't even search for anyone online. This application promotes the power of giving and taking. Imagine having most of the driving population to have that piece of software. To Siam Fatimah will be a breeze. Hahaha can't disclose much on words maybe you guys can download cos it is free. No harm trying yah?

I was at my gf's place last night, and decided to leave around 2100. She stays at joochiat area and there were a few locations where people usually park along the road. If you guys are familiar with the area, it is very near to Dunman FooD Centre. And on a typical night, you know the number of cars that will be parked there, be it legally or illegally. I had parked there for over 5 years along wherever that is available without any summon. Until last night. When I got to my car around 2105, i saw a note snapped under my wiper. Took it out and saw it is a notice of parking offence from the Police (not TP, Cisco or whatever). I remembered seeing a patrol car drove by as i went to my car. It stated that I parked beside a solid white line (the L shape stop line at junction, near a chuch). I was like 'sian lor, before cny kena'. Collecting my senses, i walked around, and saw that the few cars just a few steps away parking along double yellow line, and another 2 cars illegally parked like mine, DID NOT KENA. What kind of double standard is that? Cant say those cars just got there since the summon was issued a mere 5 minutes ago. I know I am wrong to park there lah, but cant stand the double standards and the inconsistencies of their actions. On the other hand, that area is like 'norm' for 'anyhow parking', and it is just suay i kena. Should had left her place earlier. YOu should see Sunday when the Church service is going on. The whole area is parked full like crazy, even on pedestrain walkways, double yellow lines, pavements, along Dunman Road etc. Haiz.. sibeh sian, just have to swallow this $70 fine already... This car so far has fetched me about 6 summons in 5 months. What a summon magnet.. need to send to a monk for wishing already..

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A cargo ship contracted by the U.S Military Sealift Command has fired at least one shot toward an Iranian boat, a U.S. defense official said on Friday. "It was an MSC vessel," the official said, confirming the ship fired on an Iranian boat. Other details were not immediately available. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain did not have any immediate comment. The United States in January said Iranian boats threatened its warships on January 6 along a vital route for crude oil shipments.
