It used to be most associated with Wild Wild Wet (or Escape Theme Park if you're of a certain vintage) but now is more typically visited by those looking to shop at the NTUC Fairprice of E!Hub or Don Don Donki. Downtown East spans a total of 147,000sqm and was officially opened on 5 November 2000 (according to Wikipedia). For those residing in the far east of Pasir Ris, this is likely to be their port of call for the grocery run (the other typical location being Loyang East). But just how good is its carpark? Manoeuvrability: Tight or not? There's really nothing special to note here. Both the lots and ramps give you just about how much space you'd expect from a normal HDB multi-storey carpark. 7/10 Ease of navigation: Confusing or not? Traffic in the carpark mostly moves in one-direction and it adopts a simple rectangular layout with each floor getting its own mezzanine section (so you drive up from 2 to 2B, and from 2B to 3, etc…). All these floors are even colour coded so there's really no chance of losing your way. You're honestly more likely to get lost on the way to Pasir Ris itself. 8/10 Lot availability: Crowded or not? The first few levels are typically packed (floors 1 and 2 have direct access to the shops of E!Hub so you don't need to wait for the lift) but take the higher floors and there's sure to be empty lots available. Bonus points! There’s a nifty grocery pick-up area at the first floor of the carpark. Tell your partner to wait here with the grocery trolley and you won't have to entertain any complaints about how you were not able to find a lot closer to the entrance of the mall. 10/10 Cost: Expensive or not? Park here from 5:00pm to midnight on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday and it's a simple $3.40 per entry charge. This drops to $2.40 per entry on the other days of the week. Enter before 5:00pm from Monday to Thursday and you'll be charged $0.026 per minute. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays this rate becomes $0.028 per minute. Except for that $3.40 per entry charge when the weekends swing about, parking charges here are about par for the course for a heartland mall. But if you happen to be working around the Loyang area, don’t let any of these put you off visiting for lunch: There's free parking from 12:00pm to 2:00pm from Monday to Friday. If this is still too expensive, parking rates go at $0.60 per 30 minutes or part thereof from 7:00am to 10:30pm, and $0.02 per minute or part thereof from 10:30pm to 7:00am on all days at the open air carpark along Pasir Ris Close. 6/10 EV Chargers: Can charge or not? There's only two 120kW DC chargers and a single 11kW AC charger here. Find them by driving up to level 4 of the carpark. You'll need a Charge+ account to utilise these chargers. 6/10 Motorcycle lots: Bike-friendly or not? There's only a few lots for motorcycles, located at a corner far from the entrance to E!Hub. Accommodation for riders isn't great here. 4/10 Accessibility: Can find or not? The carpark is literally what you see as you’re driving along Pasir Ris Close to reach the entrance of Downtown East. You really cannot miss it. 7/10 Overall design: Good or not? You're offered a decent parking space at a sensible price, and there's practically no risk of this carpark being full. Expect nothing more or less than an overall pleasant shopping/lunch experience. 6/10

Is this a Parking Idiot? Yes or No? Was the driver selfish in the way he/she parked his/her car, depriving others of a legitimate parking lot?

We tell you what to expect about the new On-Board Unit (OBU) and share a few handy tips, too! The ERP 2.0 is based on Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology, which allows Land Transport Authority (LTA) to manage congestion without the need for physical gantries. It also provides the option to implement distance-based charging in the future. With this move, it will require drivers to change from the previous In-Vehicle Unit (IU) to the new On-Board Unit (OBU). However, after spending the past month with the new OBU, we learned that there's nothing to worry about and in fact, there's plenty to look forward to. Here's what you can expect from the new system. The OBU starts up with a greeting screen, and you can choose whether or not to display the clock Making the appointment Car owners will progressively be notified by LTA via mail, email and/or SMS, on their turn to have the new OBU installed in their vehicles. You'll have a two-month window for this, during which the installation fees are waived. The time it takes to install the OBU depends on several factors, but mainly, it'll depend on your vehicle's make and model. In our experience, it took just under two hours on a weekday afternoon for Cycle & Carriage to fit the OBU to a Kia Cerato. It's best to arrive on time, so that the installer will have enough time to do a proper job and take you through the system once it's done. The antenna will typically be positioned where the IU unit is normally located Decisions and positions The new OBU consists of three components: An optional touchscreen display, a processing unit and an antenna. If you've opted to install the touchscreen, you'll be asked where you'd like it positioned. There is some room for flexibility here, but the placement is limited by the length of the cable. Get behind the wheel and adjust the seat to your preferred driving position. From here, you can tell the installer where you want the screen to be placed. Our advice is to put the screen on your right so that it sits just above the dashboard, making it easy to see/read. On the other hand, if you choose not to have the touchscreen, you'll need to register your smartphone on Onemotoring Digital Services and pair it to the OBU using Bluetooth. There are currently four apps you can choose from to use as an alternative to the touchscreen display. Tapping on 'My OBU' lets you view your OBU number, which is identical to your previous IU number In addition to ERP information such as road pricing alerts and your CEPAS card balance, these apps also offer features such as navigation and real-time traffic information. However, do note that due to security concerns, these apps cannot provide the full functionality of the touchscreen display. The touchscreen is also where you can adjust the system's feedback volume as needed. Without it, you'll be asked to set your preferred volume at the point of installation. You will need to bring your vehicle back to the workshop if you want to adjust the volume again. The processing unit is usually placed on the passenger side, but depending on your car's make and model, it can be located elsewhere, too Remember, if you do decide to install the touchscreen later, you'll need to pay a fee, too, so weigh your options carefully. Meanwhile, the processing unit is typically placed by the centre console on the front passenger's side. There is some flexibility in its placement, but again, this depends on what is feasible for your vehicle. The location of the antenna is quite straightforward, usually at the bottom right of the windscreen. The menu system is simple, so it's easy to tweak various preferences Using the system We found it easy to get acquainted with the OBU. In the settings menu, you can adjust the 'beep' volume and screen brightness and choose whether you wish to display the clock. Having a digital clock is handy, too, because eventually the OBU time is synchronised with the satellites for accurate charging, thus avoiding disputes. More importantly, there is no need to worry about your season parking or any backend payment arrangement. Your IU number will be ported over to the OBU, so you won't have to re-apply or transfer any season parking or even update the backend payments you currently have. On the go, the OBU works just like the IU when it comes to deducting ERP and parking charges. The display helps inform drivers about the ERP charging info, especially in the absence of large physical gantries in the future. Handily, the large screen also makes it easier to view how much you've been charged and your card balance. However, bear in mind that for those carpark gantries that require drivers to tap or insert the CEPAS card, you must still do this even with the OBU. Fortunately, each car owner who installs the OBU will receive a free NETS motoring card that you can keep handy. Now, what if you've signed up for auto-top up feature so that you don't have to keep topping up the CEPAS card, but need to use a complimentary parking coupon? The OBU touchscreen has a button marked 'Card Payment', which can be pressed to temporarily disable card deduction for complimentary button. It is on by default, so tapping it turns off this function and lets you use coupons. There are other new advantages as well. Apart from the aforementioned REP to be rolled out later, the OBU also reminds you to drive carefully when you're in School Zones and Silver Zones, and to avoid driving in the bus lanes. It'll also tell you when you're approaching a fixed speed camera, thereby helping you avoid fines. More functions in the pipeline The OBU is designed to be "upgradeable", so LTA can add features as needed. When these features are ready, they are automatically pushed out over-the-air to the OBUs. There is no need to bring the vehicles back to the workshops for upgrades. The 'Card Payment' button for instance, was seamlessly added without us having to do anything. We didn't have to configure any Internet or WiFi access or login to Singpass. LTA will also introduce real-time traffic incident updates, so that drivers can be warned of congestion or accidents. The OBU will also eventually be able to alert drivers if they are approaching an ERP charging location and allow drivers of Singapore-registered vehicles to seamlessly pay for tolls at the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints. LTA is also working with the Traffic Police to expand the safety notifications to include more speed camera zones to remind drivers to keep within the speed limits at these locations. Advance notices of road closures are even provided - they will appear when the car is driven near the location so the driver can plan ahead. The OBU installation was relatively painless, and the user experience has been seamless thus far so we can confidently say that there is no cause for worry or anxiety in switching to the OBU. With more features in the pipeline, the OBU will help make driving in Singapore only become more convenient in time.

Do you have a neighbor or neighbor cars when you park your car as in the same cars parking side by side with yours when you park your car in your regular places like your home carpark or your workplace carpark? What's the reason you like to park beside this particular car/cars? E.g. Won't slam doors on mine, real neighbors, park together against community car theft/crimes, like the car.

Source: https://mustsharenews.com/honda-colouring-practice/ Driver Of Honda Car Fails To Park Within Lot, Gets Colouring Exercise As A Joke Poor parking jobs are probably something many motorists in Singapore have encountered before. But a driver of a silver Honda Shuttle apparently did theirs so badly that someone decided to leave a colouring practice sheet to teach them to ‘stay within the lines’. Looking at the photo, the car appeared to be halfway out of its lot, clearly infringing into the lot beside it. Whoever left the colouring exercise certainly made a good jab as the gesture amused many netizens. Poorly parked Honda gets colouring practice sheet While driving a car requires skill, parking one does too, which the driver of a silver Honda Shuttle seemed to lack. Either that, or they were in a rush and decided to park as they pleased. In a post on 7 Dec, Facebook page SG Road Vigilante – SGRV shared a photo of the car in question not parked squarely in its intended lot. Although half of the car’s body sat within one lot, a good third of its right side ‘spilt over’ into the lot to its right. Should there be no other lot left but the one beside it, we’re sure the other driver would have been vexed. Noticing the evidently poor parking job, someone decided to leave the Honda driver a message by assigning them some ‘homework’ in the form of a colouring exercise with a note. “Many three-year-olds have trouble staying within the lines,” the passive-aggressive note read. “Maybe if you practise colouring this turtle, it will help with your parking.” The ‘turtle’ did appear to look more like a tortoise though. It also possessed the most judgmental stare possible. SGRV uploaded a soft copy of the sheet, which implies that it’s easily available for anyone who might want to do the same. Netizens find assignment funny What the stranger did may seem like a lot of effort for a funny jab, but this isn’t the first time the colouring tortoise has appeared tucked under a wiper. In 2021, a BMW driver who parked slanted received one, though the car appeared to be still within the lot. At least the tortoise message is less offensive. Netizens showed their support for the funny jab in the post’s comments. Another user shared that they participated in such activities too. Unsurprisingly, the targeted drivers merely looked at the paper and tossed it away. One commenter, however, decided to point out the fact that there could be some other side of the story. They brought up a disabled driver as a possible example. Either way, we at least hope the judgmental tortoise lives rent-free in the heads of truly inconsiderate drivers so they’ll remember to park properly next time. And earlier this year, an Audi that was parked a little too far to the left received the passive-aggressive tortoise, alongside a fully aggressive note decrying the driver’s sexual prowess.

Hi bro/sis, Company shifting to MBC (beside PSA, HP building).. So, now I'm busy looking around for nearby parking.. The cheapest I got is $203 per month for Comtech (behind MBC) and I feel that it's a RIP-OFF! Any recommendation for nearby parking? Even if park hourly is significant cheaper, I don't mind.

Overconfident uncle does not realise his parking sucks, takes up 2 lots in Defu
Fadevfast posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
This is probably the most civil confrontation I’ve ever seen, while keeping a mildly aggressive edge. What happened? A confrontation took place at Defu Lane when an uncle did not park properly. The video immediately opens with the person behind the camera asking “How many lots did you park in?” in Chinese. Credit to the uncle, he asked the person recording to follow him to his parking spot, saying “I don’t want to argue”. The aggrieved recorder however was still upset, as he could not open his door due to how he parked. The uncle maintained a very calm attitude, maintaining his refusal to argue by coming to his spot. This caused a “bro moment”, as both parties were temporarily “steady” and agreeing not to argue. Alas, when they finally arrived to the lot, we found that the uncle indeed did not park properly as his Nissan Sentra was taking up two lots. The uncle did try to explain himself but the video cut off before he could complete it. However, I do think it’s not entirely his fault. We can see that the car had a shorter parking lot compared to others, and was between 2 trucks. It was likely an attempt to avoid being hit by either just in case, as he seems too civil about the accusation. Online Chatter A few people wanted to hear how the uncle would explain his way out of this one. And regardless of his reasons, people still noted he did not park properly. And if you’re in the wrong on the internet, prepare for the wave of criticism. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Triple yellow as camcar parks on a double yellow and gets peed on
Fadevfast posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Parking on double yellow? Someone thought some extra yellow would be helpful. What happened? A camcar submitted footage of someone approaching the car and supposedly peeing on it at night on 4th August. We see two people approaching the car in the video, while one of them goes off screen. If there was no context to this video we would never stick around to watch for more than 10 seconds. There is no concrete proof that someone peed on the car other than a still picture of some fluid on a bumper. I will say though, considering the two shown on camera weren’t carrying an umbrella, I doubt it was rain. So, SUS. Online chatter Quite a number of Facebook users noted how the camcar was parking illegally, as there were two yellow lines on the road in the video. Others also say the camcar deserved it for parking that way, and made jokes about the pee. -

So I recently passed my driver's license and have been parking in empty lots whenever I can (because it's easier for me). However, my friends have told me that they think it's much easier to park with cars on either side. I don't agree with them (mainly because I am scared that I will hit a car while reversing), but I do wonder if that is the case for most drivers. Is it true that it is easier to park with cars around and if so, what are some tips in doing it properly? 😓

Public parking in private estate grumbles!

Hi, I would like to find out more about the usage of the disabled/handicapped parking space/lot. Firstly, I do not have the handicapped sticker/label to stick on the car as I'm not a disabled or handicapped driver. But my grandparents both are having difficulties walking as one is wheel-chair bound while the other sometimes need a wheel-chair or the 4-legged walking support. There was this once when it happens that both are at my relative's place and I'm fetching them home one night. All the available lots were taken up, even the handicapped lots. Finally I waited and one driver went off from one of the handicapped lot and I went ahead to park in it before I called my grandparents to come down to where I parked. This was at the carpark where there is this area allocated for parking with only 2 lanes for incoming and outgoing cars with a continuous single white line in-between where I'm not supposed to park/wait on either side of the road. I don't have the sticker so i can't just park and leave the car there to go fetch my grandparents. As both requires some time to get ready to come down with some assistance so I can only wait for them. Then at this time, there is another car who drove by and both the male driver and his wife stared at me. I was wondering why are they staring at me so sternly? Then the man drove his car very very close to mine, almost scratching the front part of my car. All this while, he was still staring at me. Then his car screeched and stop in front of my car and still staring at me. I'm really wondering what's wrong with this man. Then an old man came down from the car with a walking stick, then I realized why he's been staring at me. I wanted to get off my car and ask if he needs the parking lot so since I'm waiting so let him go first, but his wife came down from the car and stared at me and then he quickly drove round and parked his car opposite mine. I'm really puzzled, then i checked if his car has the disabled/handicapped sticker, he didn't have it. So why is he staring at me all the time? Then when his wife left the old man walking halfway on the path towards the block and quickly went back to the spot where he dropped them, he drove his car quickly again so close to my car (almost scratching) and screeched and stopped in front. Then sped off. I really can't understand this action. I understand that such lots are definitely reserved for those who really need it. But waiting in such lots for handicapped people are also allowed right while they take time to come down? I'd checked with LTA and they said that so long the waiting time is not considerably long and there are no other cars with the disabled parking sticker/label waiting around (if have, i'll have to give way), otherwise it's alright to use it in such situations. But I would still like to check with the people here who are more experienced in their years of driving in terms of morally or driving ethics, can i use the lots for my situation? Would like to hear constructive feedback. If it's not alright for me to do so, how else can I wait for my grandparents when they go to my relative's place again in future? Thanks for taking time to read and reply.

Hi, Just saw a ticket in my car wiper today, ticket for parking at double yellow line issued by cisco police. My fault clearly. Do you know what is the penalty (how much) for this offence? I believe no demerit for this. Anyone know a link where all these are described officially? Thanks.

One driver at my estate has been tailgating cars and even motorcycles out of our carpark for the past one year, close to two. This is on a daily basis. I know, because we leave around the same time every day . He parks at the white lots so if Fatimah comes they won't be able to check. Though I believe the system should only have his entry and not exit records. I've already reported to HDB fyi. Would you report or let it slide? Can still close eye if motorcyclists exit by the gap or if you wanna tailgate your friend out if you visit their house, but at least buy season parking for your own carpark la.

One thing that annoys me is the inability to find an available lot in a carpark - but that's part and parcel of driving, right? However, what's worse is when you stumble upon an empty lot, and another car decides to be a d1ck and 'vultures' your parking lot away. Just like the couple of a Mercedes-Benz GLB200 here: What Happened? A Singapore-registered Mercedes-Benz GLB200 swooped to the front of the cam car and stole the parking lot that the cam car was waiting for. However, this whole act was only made possible by the 'chope culture' that inspired the actions of the Mercedes-Benz SUV's female passenger. While waiting for the Toyota to exit the parking lot, the female passenger of the Mercedes-Benz alighted from the SUV, simply stood around the parked Toyota and acted blur. As the Toyota sedan exited the lot, she stood in front of the cam car to block and 'chope' the empty lot for her Mercedes-Benz GLB200. The Mercedes-Benz SUV driver reversed almost immediately into the empty parking lot as soon as the Toyota left the lot. In response to the Mercedes driver's actions, the cam car driver repeatedly sounded his horn at the German SUV. And from the honking alone, I can easily sense the frustration and anger coming from the cam car driver. Netizens' Comments NGL, this GLB200 really asking for it by pulling this stunt in Malaysia. I mean why rage so much when there's an empty lot with a green indicator just up ahead (assuming if the carpark availability system is working fine)😐 eh don't give idea leh. Next thing you know, people are gonna use oversized tissue papers to 'chope' parking lots already. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Have you guys ever found yourself in funny situations as a driver? Maybe you went up the curb by accident or perhaps you were going too fast and almost ran over a few birds. But I bet you can't beat this! A curious sight unfolded in the wee hours of the morning today in an unidentified location (anyone want to guess?) with police even coming down to check up on the scene--- a BlueSG car parked on a grassy slope! The scene in question. You can see our hardworking SPF at one corner: And we get a zoom-in as the driver goes past our main star, the one and only, BlueSG car! Seems like this driver was not the only one who noticed the odd scene. There was another screengrab from a separate bystander, seemingly a resident at one of the neighbouring public housing blocks, which provided more of an aerial view here: Wow. Just wow Why liddat harh? What was it doing there? Was the driver inebriated? Was his GPS not working? So many questions unanswered. So as always, I took to scouring the reliable comments section to look for (hilarious) explanations: ROFLMAO. Not BlueSG but BlurSG! Haha! Indeed, it would take a lot of carelessness to end up in such a place... Oh my my. That's a saucy, scandalous suggestion right there! Well, as once famously said: We think this is a much nicer way to say "bak chiu tak stamp". LOL. It seems like a few people agree with them too. Last, but not least, this netizen gave a quite simple answer that made us roar with laughter: Haha! That must be it, surely, confirm plus chop. *wipes away tears* After all, one of BlueSG's marketable points is the easy accessibility to many charging points around the island, no? A little humor never hurts in unusual situations like these! What happens next? We are assuming the police have taken over and will be doing their due investigations. After all, as funny as it seems, it is an offence to park on a grass verge in Singapore! Image taken from LTA website Such an act could lead to the offender being slapped with fines from $70 up to $110 for light vehicles, and for heavy vehicles, the penalties starting from $100 up to $150. Psst, by the way, where do you all think this place is? ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community.
