Production version of Peugeot RCZ R to debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed
SYF77 posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Brawn and brains will finally meet at the Goodwood Festival of Speed when Peugeot reveals the production version of the RCZ R coupe. The event will be held in England from 11th to 14th July. The RCZ R is previewed by the RCZ R concept (above) which debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Powered by a 260bhp 1.6-litre THP engine, the RCZ R takes the honour of being the most powerful production model in the French brand's history. This puts the car among the most powerful production cars based on a power-per-litre basis, surpassing even the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Despite of its raw power, the engine produces CO2 at a rate of 155g/km which is lower than a 1.6-litre Corolla Altis. The RCZ R will benefit from a sport-tuned suspension, lightweight alloy wheels and a Torsen limited-slip differential. Before we get to see the production version of the RCZ R, here's the concept version for your viewing pleasure.- 1 comment

The sports coupe to succeed the 350Z from the Japanese automaker Nissan, the 370Z, was officially unveiled for the European market back in 2012, during the Paris Motor Show. However, the model has now made it into the spotlight, again, with Nissan announcing an imminent launch of a facelifted version of the 370Z in China. Like its predecessor, the Nissan 370Z facelift maintains its sporty look. In fact, it looks a bit sportier and more luxurious now with a new front bumper, revised front end, and also a pair of vertical LED daytime running lights, the latter being the trend in the present day automotive market. However, expect no increase or decrease when it comes to performance as Nissan will not make any alteration to the engine. That said, the Nissan 370Z maintains a 3.7-litre V6 engine capable of spitting out 324bhp of total power output. Thanks to this engine, the car is able to go from a complete standstill to a speed of 100km/h in no more than five and a half seconds. For the facelift, Nissan is offering two new colours - Midnight Blue and Magma Red. Personally, I would choose the Magma Red over other colours as I think the car looks stunningly wonderful in it. Of course, apart from the colours, you also get to choose whether you want to drive in a coupe or to feel the air blowing on your hair. For the coupe version of the Nissan 370Z facelift, you'll have to pay 608,000 Chinese yuan (S$121,000). As for the roadster version, you'll have to spend a total of 668,000 Chinese yuan (S$134,000). Of course, you can only get the car at those prices in China, at least for now.

The refreshed Gallardo gains a new sibling with a soft top
PetrolHead posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
The first images for the facelifted Gallardo Spyder are here, and it wears the similar trigonometry inspired face which does not fit well for the Spyder. Though personally I feel that the extremely sharp styling does not work as well as it did with the coupe. Maybe it's the colour or the camera angles, but perhaps its looks better in the flesh. Besides the folding soft top, the Spyder is essentially similar to its coupe sibling, which was revealed at the recently concluded Paris Motor Show. It wears a new set of two-tone 19-inch Apollo polished alloys and feature bigger air intakes ahead of the front rims. Like in the coupe the powertrain air outlet area is wider for improved thermodynamic efficiency. What do you guys think? Am I too harsh on the looks or do you think it will grow on us?- 1 comment

Refreshed Gallardo 560-4 seems inspired by Trigonometry
PetrolHead posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
At the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Lamborghini presented its most successful super sports car with a facelifted design. Lamborghini has given one more facelift before the all-new replacement arrives. Lamborghini presents the new Gallardo LP 560-4 and the LP 570-4 Edizione Tecnica at the Paris Motor Show. The new Gallardo LP 560-4 has a cosmetic upgrade while the Superleggera and the Spyder Performante, will be now renamed and offered as the Edizione Tecnica. The refreshed Gallardo models will be available at Lamborghini dealerships starting November 2012, while the rear wheel driven LP 550-2 'Valentino Balboni' Coupe and Spyder remain. The new Gallardo LP560-4 The new Gallardo LP 560-4 looks broader and more dominating, courtesy of a mathematical friendly triangle and trapezoid design language. Larger air intakes have been created ahead of the front wheels and the new 19-inch 'Apollo polished' alloy wheels, painted in matt black and featuring precision-machined spokes in polished silver. The air outlet for the powertrain in the rear has a wider surface area, to improve thermodynamic efficiency. The new Gallardo LP570-4 Edizione Tecnica Features of the Edizione Tecnica include the fixed rear wing, carbon-ceramic brakes that Lamborghini claims to combine low weight with remarkable fade resistance and durability. The power to weight ratio of the Edizione Tecnica is now an outstanding 2.35 kg/bhp. The Edizione Tecnica will be finished in exclusive colours where the entire roof arch and front air intakes are painted in a contrasting colour. The available shades are: - Nero Nemesis (matt black) body with Arancio Argos (orange) pillars and front air intakes - Bianco Canopus (matt white) body with Arancio Argos pillars and front air intakes - Arancio Argos body with Nero Nemesis pillars and front air intakes-

After all the anticipation, Volkswagen has lifted the curtain off the MK 7 Golf at the New National Gallery in Berlin, Germany. The exterior design is sharper and clearly an evolution of the MK 6. The vital new model for Volkswagen measures 4,255mm long, 2,637mm wide and 1,452mm tall, making the car bigger than the outgoing model in all 3 dimensions. The car rides on the new MQB platform which helps it to weigh up to 100 kg less than its predecessor. The 2013 Golf will make its public debut at the Paris Motor Show. At launch, a series of petrol and diesel engines are available. The base gasoline model is equipped with a 1.2-litre TSI unit generating 84bbhp, followed by a 1.4-litre TSI with cylinder deactivation technology that churns out 138bhp. It looks the 1.4-litre

The Mazda6 wagon previewed ahead of its official debut
FaezClutchless posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Just recently, Mazda announced that production of the all new Mazda6 has officially started and the sedan version was showcased at the recent Moscow Auto Show. Mazda intends to debut the car at the upcoming Paris Motor Show later this month. But before Mazda does that, the Japanese automaker has unveiled the car ahead of its scheduled debut. Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the all new Mazda6 wagon (known as the Atenza in Japan) at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and the sedan version will be exhibited alongside it. Both models displayed at the Paris Motor Show will feature Mazda's new Skyactiv-D 2.2 clean diesel engine. The Skyactiv-D 2.2-litre diesel engine is available in either Standard Power or High Power versions. Both engine types comply with Europe's Euro 6 emissions standards. Additionally, the new Mazda6 will also be available with the Skyactiv-G 2.0 and Skyactiv-G 2.5 direct injection gasoline engines. The 2.0 litre engine makes 134bhp and 210Nm of torque and the 2.5-litre engine delivers 189bhp and 256Nm of torque. The new Mazda6 is the flagship model for a new generation of Mazda products and is the second of Mazda's new generation of vehicles which incorporate both the full range of Skyactiv technologies and the new Kodo-

Renault-Samsung has released the initial details on the 2013 SM3 sedan, ahead of its launch in September. The Renault Fluence and the Samsung SM3 are basically identical twins other than the badges on the bonnet. This could mean that the updates on the Korean saloon will likely be applied on the Fluence that we are getting in Singapore. The face lifted SM3 features a revised front bumper that houses a new grille with more chrome. In addition, the design of the headlights has been updated. Nothing much seems to have changed at the rear end. On the inside, the upgrades include a new digital instrument panel, an electronic parking brake and a "SMart Connect" infotainment system that comes with GPS navigation. The new instrument panel looks pretty cool although it could have borrowed some styling cues from the 2012 Chevrolet Aveo. Details on the engine options are not available at the moment. However, do expect the existing combination of the 1.6L petrol unit with CVT transmission to be carried over. Reviews by existing owners of the Fluence in Sgcarmart suggest that the car is underpowered. Hence, let

Renault has released the initial details on the all-new 2013 Clio, ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show. The MK 4 Clio is the first production model to be penned under the watch of Renault's new chief designer, Laurens van den Acker. Described as the first full expression of the Renault's 'design renaissance', the model has a DeZir concept-inspired grille, sweptback headlights and muscular fenders. The gloss black trim that stretches across the lower door panels, LED daytime running lights and integrated rear door handles make the French supermini stands out from its competitors such as the VW Polo and Ford Fiesta. When the Clio 4 goes on sale in Europe this fall, it will be launched with two engines. These include a new 0.9-litre three-cylinder turbocharged Energy TCe petrol delivering 89bhp and 135Nm of peak torque with an average fuel consumption of 4.3L/100km. Next is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel with also 89bhp. The oil burner returns a combined fuel consumption of just 3.2L/100km. In early 2013, Renault will enhance the range with a new 1.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 118bhp and 190Nm of torque. It will be coupled to a new six-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard. Renault has not released the details on the Clio 4's exterior dimensions but the company said that the car will have a lower ride height and wider tracks than its predecessor. The new Clio is a whopping 100kg lighter than its predecessor. That's about the weight of an American wrestler. Renault is allowing the customers to personalise the interior and exterior of the car in many ways, such as the steering wheel, gear lever, upholstery materials, dashboard, front grille and rear and side door inserts. "[The] New Renault Clio was conceived as a piece of sensuous sculpture which stimulates desire," explains van den Acker. "Like muscles, its curves express the dynamism radiated by the DeZir concept car. No acute or aggressive angles, just voluptuous curves that make you want to go up to it and caress it." I fell in love with the car when I first lay my eyes on the photos. Looks like Renault has got a winner here.

Lamborghini rocks the Paris Motor Show with its superlight concept car
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
It is absolutely amazing to wake up in the morning, open up your email and receive news from Lamborghini on the unveiling of their latest concept car at the Paris Motor Show (Aside from actually being there, that is). This time, Lamborghini have called their concept car the Sesto Elemento, or Sixth Element (in the periodic table, carbon is the sixth element, hence its name). This car is about the size of a Gallardo but weighs an amazing 999kg - A whole kilogram below 1000kg and an amazing 341kg lighter than the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera. The Sesto Elemento is still packed with the usual Lamborghini 5.0liter V10 engine and its all-wheel drive drivetrain. A truly amazing achievement in an era where weight has caused all cars to be slightly heavier than its supposed to be. And due to its light weight, the car has a power to weight ratio of 570bhp/ton. Compare this with the 420bhp/ton of the normal Gallaro Superleggera and you know you have a winner folks. 0-100km/h is now 2.5seconds with a similar V-max of 300km/h compared with the porkier Gallardo Superleggera. Only an Ariel Atom, a ridiculous Caterham SuperSports with a V8 or a Bugatti Veyron would achieve such vicious acceleration this side of a superbike. All this weight loss comes from Lamborghini investing in the latest carbon fiber technology. According to Lamborghini, the Sesto Elemento has an extremely solid, stiff, safe and lightweight carbon-fiber structure: the monocoque cell of the Sesto Elemento. The entire front frame, the exterior panels and crash boxes are also made from CFRP. The Sesto Elemento- 1 comment

Ferrari have released photos and specification of their latest roadster, the SA APERTA. This car is basically a Ferrari 599 with a fancy name and a lack of a roof, if one were being less tactful in explaining it. The SA APERTA, while quite strangely named to the English speaking public is actually quite straightforward. The 'SA' is an acronym for Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina while 'Aperta' is Italian for 'open', for the open top of this new Ferrari. It sounds so different and glamorous in Italian. If it were in English, SA OPEN sounds like a computer software program. Another significant fact about this car is that Ferrari will only produce 80 units in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of Pininfarina, long time design and styling collaborator of Ferrari. If you want to buy one you can't. This is as all the SA Apertas have been spoken for. This car is a true roadster, meaning the soft top provided in this car should only be used if the weather is really bad. It's something like the recent Porsche Boxster Spyder and recently previewed 911 Spyder. The SA Aperta uses a specific lower angled reinforced frame windscreen, integrated roll bars at the rear that has aerodynamic fins and a lowered suspension that is specific for the car. Being a roadster, the chassis differs from the standard 599. some stiffening have increased the weight slightly. How much an increase isn't mentioned but this is conpensated by the fact that the SA Aperta comes with the higher output 6.0liter V12 engine found in the 599GTO instead of the one in the standard 599. It means that this Ferrari is still ballistic, with 661bhp to play with. The Ferrari SA Aperta also makes its official unveiling at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

Another Paris Motor Show star: Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
I love Maseratis and news of a new one always makes my heart flutter, a little. Maserati has released information on a new derivative of the GranTurismo which is to go on sale in the first quarter of 2011. This piece of news as released via their media centre should be part of its viral marketing campaign that should tie in with its official unveiling at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. The new Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale is what its called and it will be the fastest, lightest and most powerful Maserati on sale at this moment in time. The GranTurismo MC Stradale is inspired by the Maserati Trofeo GranTurismo MC and their race winning GT4 models. The Maserati Trofeo is a one make, one type series for the GranTurismo and the GT4 is the FIA sanctioned GT4 class where the GranTurismo seems to be doing pretty well recently. The MC Stradale, in which the 'MC' stands for Maserati Corsa (Maserati Racing) and Stradale, meaning road, clearly states its race origins and its purpose as being a road legal version of the full Corsa version that runs around race tracks. It adds to the GranTurismo experience by incorporating handling and aerodynamic additions that Maserati have learnt from the three racing programs it enters. The first two programs are those stated above and the third is that of the FIA GT1 Championship series. The MC Stradale now produces more downforce without the extra aerodynamic drag. From the looks of the MC Stradale, it seems that most of the aerodynamic work must come from that redesigned front bumper. The grille with the trident now looks very pronounced and separate from the lower lip portion. It looks like an interpretation classic Maserati Birdcage front end suitably modernized for current consumption. Very aggressive looking when coupled to that front fenders that have air vents and outlets to channel air away from the tires (creating less aerodynamic drag and less air pressure). The rear is also touched by the addition of a very aggressive looking rear diffuser and integrated exhaust setup. I also suppose that this exhaust setup and some engine fettling by Maserati has also enabled the Maserati 4.7-litre V8 to produce 450bhp yet still consuming the same amount of petrol as the regular GranTurismo. Maserati has not revealed any other details as to whether the suspension is special for the car or how much lighter the car is even though it states the car is lighter and does not sacrifice the regular car's ride quality. I suppose they're saving the extra details for the Paris Motor Show. And this car is soooooo much nicer than that tuned Mansory version that I wrote about recently.-

The car in the photographs are the latest pics of a facelifted Hyundai i10. Hyundai's really good mini car was shown to have been facelifted at a recent event in South Korea. The event was to have been for the preview of the i10 BlueOn, a fully electric car version of the i10 that had the new styling on its exterior. Now the actual unveiling of the facelifted i10 was supposed to be at the Paris Motor Show later this month but sometimes, manufacturers slip up. In a globally connected world, a small event in South Korea will still be a significant piece of breaking news when the people start connecting two and two together. This time, the motoring journalists have pieced this piece of news with the new looks of the i10 BlueOn, deducting that the new face is actually the facelifted styling for the i10 in general. The i10's styling now has the design cues from the new i35 crossover vehicle. This is present in the front headlights and the grille/ front bumper layout. The reshaped lights look much better and shaplier instead of just a basic triangular shape. This and the wider gaping grille have made the car look wider and flatter than it actually is. In fact, one of the reasons why I myself do not fancy the i10 is because of its tall and slightly clumsy looking stance and styling. It has now been slightly improved with this facelift and I would say this very well made small car is now an even better car to buy or drive, although the news does not say anything about handling upgrades but the looks now make you feel better when you drive one. Not much has been said about the interior upgrades. This may be small and insignificant but the i10 in my opinion does not need an interior tweak as much as the exterior. It is already a very nice place to be in as the materials used for the interior feel very tactile to the touch and of a higher quality than expected for a small car. The facelifted i10 will also have fully compliant Euro5 engines. The 1.2liter engine will have a slight retune for more power and lower CO2 emissions but there will also be a new 1.0liter 3 cylinder petrol engine that will replace the old 1.1liter petrol engine. The main improvement to this engine is CO2 emissions under the 100g/km benchmark, by 1g/km. On the specification of the electric powered i10 BlueOn (sounds like a long lost cousin of Ju-On or some quirky Korean name), it is powered by a lithium ion polymer battery with a 80bhp rated electric motor. It has a range of more than 130km on a single charge and has a top speed of around 130km/h. So technically you can travel for a distance of 130km or travel anywhere for an hour before you need to find an electric socket. Then you need 25 minutes to get an 80 percent charge or a whole 6 hours for a full charge to travel another 1 hour or 130km. Give me the 1.2liter petrol engine anytime. photo/news source:autocar/newyorktimes

Bentley have revealed the latest generation of their best seller, the Continental GT recently. This new for 2011 model looks similar to the outgoing model. By looking similar, this means thaBentley has done a BMW Mini or a Suzuki Swift in terms of a redesign. Everything still looks like the outgoing model and it is only when you squint and look closely, you can see the differences. And you really need to squint. The Continental GT now has a smaller glasshouse compared to the outgoing model. The scuplting around the edges are bolder, the car looks more squat due to a higher beltline and that lower glass area, the rear three quarter windows slightly longer, new larger rear lights, a front lights that takes more from its more expensive sibling; the Mulsanne and a more prominent upright grill. This new Bentley now rides on 20inch wheels with two 21inch wheel options for those that want bigger sized rollers. On the mechanical upgrades, the Conti GT has new aluminium suspension components coupled with a wider front and rear track as well as a new steering system that would benefit ride and handling. The Conti GT also makes 567bhp and 699Nm over 552bhp and 659Nm running a revised 6.0 W12 engine. All that power now runs through a new automatic gearbox that has 50% speedier shifts (down to 200 milliseconds and does throttle blips for precise rev matching) with an all-wheel drive system that channels 60 percent of the power to the rear wheels instead of a standard 50:50 split as before. The car is also 65kg lighter than the outgoing model, making it hit 100km/h from nought in about 4.4seconds and a top speed of 318km/h. Fuel consumption is also slightly improved owing to a 15 percent improvement in powertrain efficiency. Bentley has also stated that there will be a newer more eco friendly, but not necessarily cheaper Continental GT which will use a high output 4.0liter V8. Details have not been stated as yet, as the car is due for launch at the end of 2011. There are not many changes to the interior though. It has 2 inches more legroom for the rear passengers due to the redesigned and slimmer front seats. The materials are better, the multi media interface (hey, it's basically a VW Group car, so the infotainment system could be called an MMI) is new and improved and the center console is a floating type

Say goodbye to the inline 5 pots turbo unit in the existing Ford Focus ST. According to Ford's product development boss, Derrick Kuzak, the new ST will make use of the company's new EcoBoost engine. "Our commitment is to deliver an exciting performance model of the new Focus on a global basis and using a version of our advanced new Ford EcoBoost petrol direct-injection turbo engine," said Kuzak back in March. "We're not ready to reveal more details yet, but we recognize how important this model will be in the Focus line-up, particularly for customers in Europe." The new Focus ST will either get the Mondeo's 2.0 240HP unit, or perhaps an even more powerful version churning out around 250HP. In addition to the EcoBoost engine, the new Focus ST will get a tweaked chassis with upgraded suspension, steering wheel and brake systems, as well as upgraded alloy wheel / tire combos. A Ford insider has reportedly confirmed to Autoexpress magazine that the hotted-up ST version of the new Focus hatchback will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in September.
