  1. Creative Japanese father prints life-sized cardboard cutouts of wife so son won’t cry in her absence source: https://mothership.sg/2019/12/japan-father-print-cardboard-cutout/ Sometimes, parenthood presents its own unique obstacles, which may require some ingenuity to overcome. One father in Japan certainly rose to the challenge. Fooling son with realistic cutout In a tweet, which has since amassed over 47,000 retweets and around 123,000 likes, one @sato_nezi showed how he solved his son’s separation anxiety while his wife was away. Sato shared that his one-year-old child would start to cry uncontrollably whenever he lost sight of his mother. Which led to some rather resourceful parenting methods. Sato decided to print a life-sized cardboard cutout of his wife, perhaps to trick his son into thinking his mother was still around. For added realism, the cutout was even printed in two different poses, one of the mother standing, and another of her kneeling down. Here are photos of the innocuous cutout, placed in appropriate parts of the house. And it seems the method worked. Look how happy he is. Another video posted on Twitter The video shows Sato added that his son was fooled for about 20 minutes, and said the cutout “could be a lifesaver”.
  2. I am kind of curious since there are parents around here. What would you do if you find you child have a specific interest in something at a VERY EARLY age? Example, my 3 year kid is very into letters and numbers at a very early age but is super crappy at physical stuff like playing with balls, etc. If I concentrate on his strengths, I believe he might be someone special in terms of numerical and reading, ie way ahead of his age. However, I am not sure if that is the right path for him. Or should we concentrate on his weakness so he is more well rounded and "average".... ? Then there is a nagging feeling that we did not groom him to his full potential....
  3. Dear Mods, I have a little suggestion here. Just wondering if it is feasible to start a sub folder here ~ perhaps under "others" dedicated to parenting? There are lots of forums out there dedicated to parenting no doubt, most of which however are female dominated. Males tend to feel awkward posting there and some may even be seen as chee ko peks, for camping in a female dominated environment. This parenting folder can benefit the MCF community by offering a channel - For experienced fathers to contribute their knowledge - For would be fathers (like myself now) to learn from real life experiences instead of textbook examples It is also an excellent channel to hear the muses, gripes, joys, trials, involvements, know-hows, mostly from a father/male's perspective. Please consider, I'm pretty sure this enables fathers and would be fathers to build cohesion and supports the aims of developing healthy and resilient forumers through a community channel. cheers
  4. Saw this on Fb: I live in a rather well-off neighbourhood. Recently, my neighbourhood had a new family which just moved in. On the surface, they appear perfectly normal. In fact in the eyes of the outsiders, they appear picture perfect. Parents are relatively wealthy. Kids getting good grades in school. Family owns a state of the art security system to protect their property. However, I was pretty disgusted when I was invited to their house warming party recently. The parents in this family keep harping about how wonderful the children of OTHER parents are and how lousy and lazy their own kids are. Now, the children of this family are mild-mannered and pretty well-behaved and are academically bright. But sadly, the parents openly proclaimed that their own children's "A" grades cannot even match the "B" grades of the guests' children! The father even offered to pay for the tuition of their guests' children to bring them up to straight "A" students. His own kids? He told them to go work in McDonalds to pay their own school fees otherwise just drop out of school and be a cleaner. What a strange father! And there is the nice playground. This is only accessible to the children of other parents and their own kids had to watch in silence as other children ran havoc around the playground which rightfully belongs to them. The silly father even had the audacity to say even though they are born into this family the playground was not rightfully theirs. They are for the guests only. And he PREFERS guests to utilize the playground because they, apparently, can run faster and slide down the slide faster. My goodness! Your own kids were not even given a fair opportunity to prove their speed and their worth and how good they are on the slide! My eyes watered when I saw those poor kids look at the playground longingly with downcast eyes before they resigned to their fate and quietly went away into the corner to play with a couple of broken old toy guns. My boiling point came when I saw the guests' children openly taunting the host family's children labelling them useless and complacent. Obviously the guests do not just disrepect them but also hated them despite the fact that they are mere GUESTS. But because the hosts' children are gentle and mild-mannered, they ignored those ignorant and childish taunts. I was shockingly disgusted when the hosts actually joined in to condemn their own children and openly insulting them instead of defending them!!! They even AGREED with the guests that their own children are useless and lazy and complacent and added their own plethora of needless insults which are too disgusting to say here! Then one of the guest's child struck the hosts' children hard across their faces. I was floored when the father thanked them for teaching his own useless and lazy children a lesson instead of chasing them off the property..... What a strange family. Outsiders enjoy greater treatment than their own children. I have to say this. A little puppy when pushed too much and too far will bite back with the ferocity of a lion.
  5. Watched this video and was super inspired to be a good parent for my kids... but then thinking again, asian culture like always want to be safe and don't want pple to fail. How many of us have parents like this? http://edumatters.sg/all-parents-you-have-to-take-2-mins-to-watch-this/
  6. something nice about the PRC look at these beautiful posters with very meaningful words.... yep, still make lot of sense today 1952... about 3 years after the CCP took over China what a pity when the traditions and values were destroyed during the Cultural Revolution (1966-76), and indirectly affected what PRC is today
  7. i am asking for a father on this parenting issue... if you have kids in pre-school (or pri 1) and you are living with your parents. Your dad loves to watch some violent shows or movies in the evening, shows like NCIS and living dead, which has mixed of violent, dead bodies, gross images, sex, etc. which you think may would have bad influence or negative impact on the young kids. So the issue is do you think it is ok for kids of this age (8 and below) to watch these shows or you should stop your dad from watching shows when the kids are around? at least till the kids are in bed.
