I was looking at the used car section for Auction Cars...... I wonder what is the definition of pre-owned car? I believe it is different from Auction Car. Auction Car will be repossessed car from the finance companies, right? I believe pre-owned car are previously test-drive vehicles at showrooms or leased car that is more than 6 years old from the AD. Am i right? I noticed there is another category of car that is only for Business Entities To Tender. It is not repossessed car. Why only business entities can tender? special COE? I ever saw a car own by a business with a COE value of $0. The COE still have few years left. I wonder why the COE value is $0.

New height of COE for Cat A may soon be announced, new cars are heard fully booked, agents are taking in orders to secure them with preparation to bid higher price of COE.....any fools know about this. Is this not really a bad news for those who intend to get a pre-owned car to bridge this period of craziness, think again. The 2nd car dealers are too prompt to increase prices by quite a bit in anticipation. I noticed several offers (with much cheaper COEs) asking for ridiculous prices with astronomical depreciation rate (US$12-15K per annum) by dealers, some owners alike.... For a new car, if scrap at the end of 10th year, the depreciation of a VW golf is 15K per annum (8/yr for COE, 5K for car, 2K for interest). For a pre-owned car, the depreciation of COE is much lower, but the car is much higher, and the overall depreciation works to be almost the same amount you pay for a new car. Take for instance, a 2010 Golf 1.4 was $106k then, the dealers are selling them today at the same price or more. But, the cost of COE was as low as $34k, so you are paying much more for the depreciation of the old car. If everyone of us just buy pre-owned car blindly without working out our sum, COE will continue to rise, it is a viscous cycle. If we lose patient, we shall pay the price, a hefty price indeed. If we can wait, we should. Thanks for hearing me out.

Hi all, I am in the process of shopping for a 2006 Honda Fit/Jazz, Toyota Yaris or Nissan March. My criteria would be low fuel consumption, low maintenance costs, reliability and safety. May I have some advice especially from those who have driven these cars. Your input is deeply appreciated.

Looking for a car for my wife. Safety is number one consideration, so Volvo comes in mind. Budget is below $80k, so when I saw an ad in the paper saying a 2002 S40 1.8 going at $78.8k I got interested. But I am having problem finding the spec for this model. Anyone can help ? Would also like to hear from Volvo owners out there, how is this model and also how is SM aftersales service ? Is the car reliable and how easy is it to get service outside. I read in the forum that SM sold this model at a lost ? What's the reason and will this mean that parts and support are limited or affected ? My wife go Msia once in a while as well, so would also like to know if a Volvo breakdown in Msia is it easy to get help ? Am also considering Camry 2.0, but a friend who got into an accident before in a Camry told me that her Camry crushed like a tin can. She said she was lucky to survive the crash but will never buy another Toyota (or most Jap car) anymore.

Now car prices and COE are so expensive, some ppl say we should hang on to our car as long as possible.... So far, have you owned a car more than 4 years?.... or what is the longest you have hung on to a car? is it worth doing it? will you do the same again? the longest I have hunged on to my car is about 6 years which i bought second hand.... quite happy with it as the total depreciation was spread over many years. It's quite reliable although it's just a basic japanese model.

Strange that a almost brand new BMW F10 535i is on the pre-owned market. Is there something the owner knew after driving 100km that others don't? http://www.sgcarmart.com.sg/used_cars/info...479&DL=1000

Hi guys, I would think so. Since no other firms are big enough to own them. Nissan is owned by Renault, Suzuki is owned by GM, Mitsubishi is owned by Chysler, Daihatsu is owned by Toyota, Subaru is partially owned by Toyota and GM if correct. Regards,

as above do you think they are more careful? tend to take care of the car better?

Helping a friend. Looking for pre-owned Superb II. Give me a PM if you're selling.

I was shown a BMW 323 which has already 2 owners. The depreciation works out to be 8,000 per year. Is this a good deal for a 2 year old car? If I intend to sell this off after 2 years, that is into its 4th year, will the car lose tremendous value?

Hi, I was just looking around for a convertible for the missus, and came across one which she has quite taken a fancy to. Price was good, certified as 'A' for inspection, etc; except that when I started the engine. The idling rpm was 1500 approx. Is this normal? The car has a manual transmission. What could be wrong with the car? Anything else I should check? thanx!

That is to say, instead of the car ownership belonging to A, I add mine in as well, so that the car ownership belongs to A & B?
