Hi everyone, My OPC's road tax is due for renewal sometime this month. So few days ago, I went to renew my car insurance and also renew my road tax via onemotoring site. Today I went down to VICOM to ask for red plate inspection. Then they said that my road tax is already renewed, how come still need to do plate inspection? So they asked me to come back next year. Feeling uneasy, I called LTA hotline as well. They also checked that my road tax got renewed successfully and didn't see anything about the red plate inspection. So hotline staff said should be fine, if there are anything they will contact me. Anyone faced this before? Maybe I should not renew my road tax first and should go for inspection then renew. But I thought onemotoring should be able to detect my inspection not done so will stop me from renewing road tax. Thanks in advance for any info.

I'm thinking of converting my 2 year old car to OPC. Noted on LTA website that there will be a rebate of $1100 every 6 months. Lets say i convert my car on the 2 year mark. Will i be getting $1100 for every 6 months of driving or will i be rebated the 8 x $1100 directly? If that is the case, will i get $17600 back? which is more than the 17K?? Tried searching but was not able to find the information.

Just realised that it's really worth getting or converting to OPC. 1) Reduced initial investment 2) Lowered Taxes 3) Cheaper Insurance 4) Deferred Day Licensing - upto 23.59 next day to purchase license via various media 5) Even if you forget its ok you have 5 working days to do "self-declaration" Of which all could be redundant since there isn't any concrete control in place to truly catch you using without paying the license...u dun say...people dun tell on you....practically won't ever get caught... "Everyone does it...." Seen so many OPC in use everyday outside the licensing hours...dun think these people pay license everyday else would cost more than regular cars what's the point. So...until a concrete control mechanism in place...we should take the opportunity...!

Hi, I am asking the questions on behalf of my dad and I am a total noob in this area. Appreciate if anyone can shed some advice. Thanks. My Dad's ride is a OPC Latio sedan (4AT) whom COE will be expiring in Oct 2016. He took the 10 years loan and his car parf value is about 4.9K. Due to my mom's medical condition that required the car, he is looking into renewing his COE for another 5 years. The current condition of his car is tip top, mileage is super low as well. Qns: - If he get a COE renewal loan, how much cash he has to down? I am assuming that under the new MAS ruling, he will not be able to loan full amount. I read elsewhere that finance company is able to loan up to 80% while banks is about 60%? - Also, the loan prepayment period is max at 3 years for 5 years COE renewal? - Is the road tax and insurance going to cost the same regardless if his car is OPC or non OPC after renewing his coe? I read that it is more worthwhile to convert back to normal plate before renewing coe. Or is it more worthwhile for him to trade in to Tan Chong Motors and get a new OPC Almera?

I don't mean to sound pompous but perhaps someone at LTA actually read my entry 3 weeks ago and decided to get their act together. They've finally announced a date for when the new OPC scheme will be implemented. From 25th January 2010 onwards, OPC car owners will be able to fully utilise their cars on Saturdays. Which pretty much means your car is now available the entire weekend without having to wait till after 3pm on Saturdays before it moves. It's seriously great news considering the amount of appointments I've had to miss cause of the restricted hours. Of course being under the new scheme comes at a price but I still think it's worth it. Personally my road tax will increase from $50/yr to $70/year. Considering all the Saturdays and eves of public holidays I'll be able to use the car, the cost will be minuscule. I just don't agree with the admin charge necessary to be converted to the new scheme though. What kinda admin charge do you need to put my car under the new scheme? It's just another lame attempt from LTA to suck money out of everyone's pockets. Dammit! Besides that, I guess for once the LTA actually heeded the requests from the public and did something right. We should all be so thankful...

No news on new OPC scheme despite it being just 1 month away
911fan posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Alright...I think this is one of the dumbest things ever. In less than a month, LTA will be implementing the new OPC scheme on cars that've opted into the new scheme. But apparently there's no information or details on when the car will be under the new scheme. I actually called them up and even the LTA Customer Service Officer has no clue. That's hilarious isn't it? The government body that's in charge of the new scheme has no idea too. Excellent! With less than a month before the new scheme kicks in, OPC owners are still in the dark about when they're supposed to pay the $100 admin charge(which is another government money-making scam if you ask me...) or where. But one thing's for sure though, there's no chance I'll be using my car on X'mas eve. Guess I was gullible to have expected the government (of all people) to be generous about it. Like that's ever gonna happen! Ha!- 1 comment
