  1. https://mothership.sg/2022/01/chicken-hotpot-negative-review/amp/ I wonder what’s the purpose of calling NUS, what scam is there? Or is the scam relating to serving things to customers that they didn’t order? Either which way, this could have been handled much better….. instead of calling school, showing CCTV footage, now their chickens are in the hot soup! If I left my SingNet email address, will they call SingNet to verify me?

Citing her reasons, District Judge Jasvender Kaur described Terence Siow Kai Yuan's offences as "minor intrusions" several times. She also noted that the probation report had found Siow suitable for probation as his academic results show he has the "potential to excel in life". Siow, 23, was given 21 months of supervised probation after pleading guilty to one charge of outraging the modesty of a 28-year-old woman. Two similar charges were taken into consideration. The National University of Singapore (NUS) student was on a train on the North East Line heading towards Punggol station at about 11.30pm on Sept 12 last year when he noticed a woman with "very long legs" in a pair of shorts. He sat next to her and felt the urge to touch her, the court heard. When he used his left hand to touch the outside of her right thigh, she shifted away from him and crossed her legs. When Siow touched her right thigh again, she moved to another seat, and later alighted at Serangoon station. But Siow followed her as he felt the urge to touch her again. As she was on an escalator, he stood behind her and used his finger to touch her buttocks over her shorts. win liao loh. peeping tom pang chance. now molester also pang chance. soon rape will be a minor offence. i wish i was born 30 years late, damn man
  3. hmmm.... tot this belonged in ceca section.... but strangely... the word ceca cannot be searched in forum liao??.... anyway.. with the proliferation of CECA in the IT industry, to the point i hardly see locals when i go for meetings.... except in govt related issues. Why studying IT in singapore needs this kinda grades when one can easily uptron up some friends and neighbours? How to bring back the singapore core when the system is seemingly excluding the majority?... cant help wondering.... 1) Why train more when can just outsource to uptron easily? 2) Why kpkb cannot find locals when you set standards like that? http://nus.edu.sg/oam/undergraduate-programmes/indicative-grade-profile-(igp)

It is part of the group’s weekly programme called Let’s Talk About Sex, which aims to raise awareness about sex education and remove the stigma associated with sexual health.

  7. Duke-NUS scientist accused of spying for Russians in the US Read more at https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/19/us/hector-alejandro-cabrera-fuentes-spying-russia.html NEW YORK — United States federal officials have arrested a researcher from Duke-National University of Singapore for allegedly acting on behalf of a Russian agent who recruited him to collect information about the US government and met repeatedly with him in Moscow. Hector Alejandro Cabrera Fuentes, a Mexican citizen, and his wife were about to board a plane back to their native Mexico from Miami on Sunday, when a customs official asked to inspect their phones. The official looked in a file of recently deleted images on the phone of Fuentes’s wife and found a close-up photograph of a license plate. The plate belonged to the vehicle of a US government source, federal prosecutors said in a statement. Fuentes admitted to the US Customs and Border Protection that he had told his wife, who was not named in the statement, to take the picture. It turned out, federal prosecutors said, that Fuentes was acting on behalf of a Russian government official who had recruited him in 2019 to rent property in Miami-Dade County and gather information. “The Russian official told Fuentes not to rent the apartment in Fuentes’s own name and not to tell his family about their meetings,” according to a statement from the Department of Justice. Hector Fuentes met with the Russian official twice in Moscow, it said. During the second meeting this month, the official gave Fuentes a physical description of a US government source’s vehicle. The Russian official “told Fuentes to locate the car, obtain the source’s vehicle license plate number, and note the physical location of the source’s vehicle,” according to the statement. The two were supposed to meet again around April or May so that Fuentes could give him the information, officials said in the statement. Federal officials said Fuentes and his wife rented a car, and Friday they followed the US source home. A security guard on the premises became suspicious of the couple because the rental car had tailgated another vehicle to get inside the building complex. As the guard approached Fuentes, his wife got out of the car and snapped a photo of the government source’s vehicle, federal officials said. The guard asked the couple what they were doing there, and Fuentes said they were visiting someone at the building. “Security did not recognize the person as living there and told Fuentes to leave the premises,” federal officials said. When Fuentes was questioned about the photo two days later at the airport, he admitted he had been directed by a Russian government official to conduct the operation, the officials said. Fuentes has been charged with acting on behalf of a foreign agent without notifying the attorney general. He has also been charged with conspiracy to act on behalf of a foreign agent. At a hearing in Miami federal court Tuesday, Fuentes said he had a variety of jobs, including one as a researcher at Duke-NUS, where he earned US$7,500 a month, according to The Miami Herald. Fuentes also told a magistrate judge he earned US$5,000 a month from an Israeli company based in Germany and had about US$100,000 in bank accounts in Mexico, Singapore and the United States, according to the newspaper. Fuentes is listed on the Duke-NUS website as one of the lead researchers of a 2016 study on cardiovascular disease. In 2015, he gave a presentation at a conference hosted by the European Society of Cardiology in London. In his bio, Fuentes was described as a graduate of Kazan University in Russia, where he obtained a degree in molecular biology and microbiology. He will be arraigned March 3 in Miami federal court, federal officials said. Ms Dharshini Subbiah, a senior communications specialist at Duke-NUS, told Duke-NUS campus newspaper The Chronicle: “All of his appointments have been suspended, and pending the ongoing investigations in the US we are unable to comment further." In response to TODAY's queries, a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) spokesperson said: "MHA will not be commenting on this case." THE NEW YORK TIMES

  10. A student studying at the National University of Singapore (NUS) fell eight stories to her death after trying to get into her residential hall room from a window. According to a report in The New Paper (TNP), the 18-year-old South Korean had locked herself out of her room on the seventh storey of Block C of Sheares Hall on Saturday (28 Oct). The Singapore Police Force (SPF) told Yahoo News Singapore it was alerted to a case of fall from height at 20 Heng Mui Keng Terrace at 11:38am on 28 October. “An 18-year-old woman was unconscious when conveyed to the National University Hospital where she subsequently succumbed to her injuries,” said SPF. Police are investigating the unnatural death. The residents were informed by email of the tragic event on Saturday afternoon. One resident told TNP that a wake was held for the student on Monday evening. https://sg.yahoo.com/news/nus-student-falls-death-locking-room-011752131.html
  11. Attended a free concert at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, at the National University of Singapore recently. They call this event, "Let's make a musical friend". This conservatory is the first in Singapore to offer full time studies, leading up to Bachelors or Masters of music degrees. It is located next to the Lee Kong Chian history museum (where they are exhibiting the sperm whale). The conservatory has a very cool building. From the inside, it looks like this. The first part of the event was held in the conservatory concert hall. A beautiful hall! The whole idea of this event is not some high-brow classical music concert that would certainly put the kids to sleep. Rather, it was designed as a fun event, to showcase the classical instruments of an orchestra to the families and kids. For a start, here was the introduction to the woodwinds. Which instruments are these? Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon. The instrumentalists on stage. All studying at the Yong Siew Toh. Next, introduction to the instruments of the marching band - BRASS! Loved the surprise surround sound and the way the students marched in. Just 5 instruments and the sound was gorgeous. Next, strings. I think all of us are familiar with the violin. But there is also the viola, cello and later on the double bass. In this picture, there were all holding up their bows. The emcee was comparing their bows to lightsabers. After the strings, came the percussion. Too many instruments to name, so the emcee didn't name them. The performance was pretty good. And finally, the entire orchestra came out on stage to perform, the theme from Harry Potter! Very nicely done. The acoustics in the concert hall were fantastic and the kids were rather well behaved! After the concert, we could attend what they call sectionals, or information sessions for the various instrument groups. We decided to check out the woodwinds. Here is one student playing a short phrase from Swan Lake, on the oboe. Overall, it was a wonderful afternoon spent. Kids had plenty of fun. They hold this event once a year, at about this time of the year (usually March holiday weekends). So go catch it if you are interested to expose your kids to classical music.
