  1. A Pair Of Newborn Twins Have Been Named 'Covid' And 'Corona' source: https://says.com/my/news/a-pair-of-newborn-twins-have-been-named-corona-and-covid A pair of newborn twins in India have been named 'Corona' and 'Covid', after the deadly coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic that has already infected over a million people all over the world The newborn twins were born during the ongoing nationwide lockdown at Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur, the capital city of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. According to news outlet The New Indian Express, the husband, Vinay Verma, had to rush his wife, Preeti, to the government-run hospital, where she gave birth to a boy and a girl. "Both the mother and newborn babies are doing fine. The infants weigh 2.9kg and 2.7kg. A team of doctors and medical staff performed a caesarean section on her after she complained of labour pain and complications," a public relations officer at the hospital was quoted as saying. "My husband took me to the hospital on his motorcycle. It was around midnight and we were stopped at various check-points raised by the traffic police," the wife told the outlet. The unusual names were chosen to symbolise triumph over hardship The parents of the newborn twins said that it would remind them about all the hardships they conquered amid the lockdown, ahead of the successful delivery, reported The Hindu. "We have named them Covid (boy) and Corona (girl) for now. The delivery happened after facing several difficulties and therefore, I and my husband wanted to make the day memorable," the wife said. According to her while the COVID-19 virus is dangerous, the pandemic has made people take note of the importance of hygiene and practice good habits to keep safe. "Indeed the virus is dangerous and life-threatening but its outbreak made people focus on sanitation, hygiene and inculcate other good habits. Thus, we thought about these names. When the hospital staff also started calling the babies as Corona and Covid, we finally decided to name them after the pandemic," the 27-year-old mother of the newborn twins said, giving reasons for their unusual decision. The couple, however, said they may change their decision and rename the kids later.
  2. US police video shows newborn found in plastic bag https://www.asiaone.com/world/us-police-video-shows-newborn-found-plastic-bag Jun 27, 2019 / AFP Police in the US state of Georgia have released a poignant video of officers finding an abandoned newborn girl inside a plastic bag, as part of their efforts to find the child's mother. The video, recorded on an officer's body camera and made public on Tuesday, shows sheriff's deputies in Cummings, Georgia discovering the infant tied up in a bag and left by a roadside the night of June 6. They were responding to a caller claiming they heard a baby crying in the woods. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office "is continuing to investigate & follow leads" regarding the baby, whom they have named India, said the department on Twitter. "By releasing the body cam footage from the discovery of Baby India we hope to receive credible info & find closure." They added that India is "thriving." In the video, a deputy can be heard reassuring the baby as he unwraps her from the plastic bag, saying, "Look at you, sweetheart! Oh, I'm so sorry... look how precious you are." He then hands her to medical first responders, who perform first aid on the infant before wrapping her in a blanket. Authorities have been looking for the girl's mother since June 6, taking to Twitter to ask if anyone in the area knows "a female who was in late stages of pregnancy." Many also took to Twitter to share information about "safe haven" laws, which allow women to leave unharmed infants at designated locations -- such as police stations or hospitals -- without prosecution, thereby making the children wards of the state, so as to prevent another infant getting abandoned. "Omg, the poor thing! Glad she is safe and doing well now," one woman tweeted. Another tweeted she "broke out in tears" when she saw the video because it reminded her of her own infant granddaughter.

    Newborn rescued

It's disgusting how some people treat a helpless life.
  5. Basically, news article says parents have to pay $15 so they get the right baby after giving birth. Do you think it's right? Isn't it the responsibility of hospitals to ensure that? No pay, no right baby? :o Wrong baby, hospital not at fault?
  6. WTF is this? Totally appalled. Thank goodness the baby was saved in the nick of time. http://www.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne%2BNews...419-274562.html A newborn baby was found buried alive yesterday afternoon, in a flower patch located at Eunos block 31A, reported the Shin Min Daily News. A resident, Mr Tay, 60, was at the sixth floor sky garden at block 31A at around 2pm when he heard crying noises coming from the plot of plants and flowers behind him. The retiree told a reporter from the Chinese daily that the cry sounded like it was made by a cat, and dismissed it at first. However, he felt something was amiss when he did not see any animal in sight. Mr Tay then used his hands to check if anything was hiding among the flowers, and was shocked to discover two tiny feet peeking out from beneath the soil. "I asked my friend to come and take a look, I thought it was a doll at first," said Mr Tay. Curious, Mr Tay then climbed over and into the flower patch. He removed the soil covering and was alarmed to find the baby, who was still alive. Mr Tay immediately pulled the baby out. Describing the baby as small and dark-skinned, Mr Tay said the baby was bare-bodied, except for a black 'rope' made of plastic wound tightly around his neck. His umbilical cord was still attached. Miraculously, the baby was still breathing, but was very weak. "The baby's eyes were open, and his mouth and ears were filled with soil. He was crying non-stop, it was a pitiful sight," said Mr Tay, who immediately called the police. Mr Tay estimates that the baby had been buried under about five centimetres of soil. He says the baby is lucky to survive, 'probably because of its strong will to live', said Mr Tay. Mr Tay said police found a blood-soaked singlet 10 metres away, which is believed to be related to the case. Droplets of blood were also found at the staircase landing near the site where the newborn was found.

  9. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a baby.. Wed Aug 8, 2007 9:23 AM ET WELLINGTON (Reuters) - A New Zealand couple is looking to call their newborn son Superman -- but only because their chosen name of 4Real has been rejected by the government registry. Pat and Sheena Wheaton say they will get around the decision by the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages by officially naming their son Superman but referring to him as 4Real, the New Zealand Herald newspaper has reported. The Wheatons decided on the name after seeing the baby for the first time in an ultrasound scan and realizing their baby was "for real." They decided 4Real was the best way to write it, but the name was rejected because the registrar said a name had to be a sequence of characters. Pat Wheaton said he was considering appealing against the decision through the courts, but whatever happens he won't be budged on his choice. "No matter what its going to stay 4Real," Wheaton told the Herald, "I'm certainly not a quitter." A spokesman for the Department of Internal Affairs, which operates the registry told the Herald discussions with the Wheatons about their son's name were continuing. The baby is now two months old, after the Wheatons first applied to register his name in later June.
