[extract] It was a hot Sunday afternoon but that did not dampen my enthusiasm in paying a visit to the annual CATS Classified Car-nival event. I was there for 3 main reasons

While there has been no shortage of spy shots and videos showing the new Mercedes-Benz CLS sports sedan to date, that changed recently with the leakage of the car's official brochure that reveals the production-ready version of the new 2011 CLS inside and out, way ahead of its scheduled world premiere at the Paris Auto Show next month. The second iteration of the CLS combines the "banana shaped" body of the original model with styling cues from Mercedes' new design language. The car's interior is almost unchanged from the CLS Shooting Brake Concept. The new CLS is based on the new E-class mechanicals with which it will share similar powertrain options including a V6 turbo diesel, V6 and V8 petrol engines. The range will top out with an AMG variant sporting Stuttgart's all-new 5.5-liter bi-turbocharged V8 engine delivering around 540HP in standard form and about 570HP with the optional performance package.

These are the first official photos of the Mercedes-Benz F800 Style 'four-door coupe' study, surfaced ahead of the concept model's debut at the Geneva Motor Show on March 2. The new concept model serves two purposes. Firstly, it samples Mercedes-Benz's new and more dynamic design language that will be first applied on the next-generation CLS sports saloon that is expected later this year. The bumper seems to adopt the 'melting' design seen on the Volvo XC60, which I quite fancy personally. The F800 concept is also believed to preview a smaller brother to the CLS. Of course, don't expect to see the concept model's rear-hinged sliding doors or the uber-futuristic interior making it to production. Two powertrain options are considered for the F800 Style study: a fuel-cell system with lithium-ion battery pack and a rear-mounted electric motor or a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain.
