Honda debuted the Civic Si concept coupe and Civic concept sedan at the North American International Auto Show, providing the first official preview of the upcoming ninth-generation 2012 Civic. The exterior styling of both Civic concept models is very close to the actual production models that will follow within the next couple of months. The profile of the new Civic is quite similar to the existing version and I thought that the rear lamp combination of the sedan looks like the previous generation Camry. The coupe model features a more aggressive character thanks to the tapered rear roofline, more angular front fascia and several unique parts including a rear air diffuser and a centrally mounted exhaust outlet. Both concepts are fitted with 19-inch machined alloy wheels. "The Civic is known for providing a balance of 'just-right' packaging, fun-to-drive character and outstanding fuel economy, at a price that even first-time buyers can afford," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. According to a report from Autocar , Honda is rumored to be working on a CR-Z that ditches its conventional hybrid powertrain in favor of a small-displacement, turbocharged mill. The proposed new engine is an all-new 1.6-liter unit that will produce around 160 horsepower. Autocar states that a higher-output CR-Z Type R may follow shortly thereafter, rumored to produce around 200 hp. This new powerplant is reportedly slated for use in the Honda Jazz (Fit), Civic and Accord, and could provide the basis for the next-generation Civic Si engine. Like many European B and C segment cars, the next Fit and Civic are also moving to smaller displacement, forced induction powertrains to offset increasing emission standards. Sales of the hybrid CR-Z have started to fade in Honda's home market, despite the hatch being named the Japanese Car of the Year. Honda hopes that a turbocharged CR-Z would broaden the vehicle's appeal in other key markets, as well, such as the United States and Europe. The 1.6 liter Turbo powered CR-Z will ensure that Honda have an answer to the Scirroco and the upcoming Hyundai Veloster.

Honda has released a preview illustration of the next generation Honda Civic, which is set to be unveiled in concept form at Detroit during the 2011 North American International Auto Show in January. The design sketch shows a sleek and aerodynamic profile strongly resembling the Honda CR-Z. Although this sketch is showing what appears to be a three-door hatchback, prototypes of the Civic sedan version have been previously spied. There are no details regarding the engine options, but previous reports have indicated that the Civic may receive a new petrol and diesel power plants. A dual-clutch transmission is also a possibility and I hope it turn out to be a reality as DSG is the
