Globally well known for it's expensive cars , but in the safety department it is still far off from what is tested as standard. Looking into Passenger safety NCAP & ANCAP test are conducted on various cars , achieving 4 / 5 Stars had became a mile stone for car manufacturers to achieve. It is not certain how many car buyers do pay attention to this detail , or there are buyer just skim through. Focusing in Cat A vehicle most of the Cars sold are "suppose" to achieve 5 star rating , even a small size vehicle like Honda Jazz is able to achieve it . ANCAP = https://www.ancap.com.au/safety-ratings/5-star Euro NCAP =http://www.euroncap.com/ But here comes the bad news , in order to achieve 5 Stars most of the following criteria or features are install as standard : Dual frontal, side chest, and side head-protecting airbags (curtains) for the 1st and 2nd row are standard. Antilock brakes (ABS) electronic brake distribution (EBD) electronic stability control (ESC) hill launch assist and reversing collision avoidance are also standard* Advanced seat belt reminders are fitted to all seats.* * Clarification require Quite a number of favorite brands comes basic only with 2 airbags , some even without ESC. Paying so much for a car but still lacking in such detail is quite disappointing . We may have a world class ERP system , TOP notch COE system to control number vehicle on the road , Closing on new implementation on Carbon emission , but still a league way behind in terms of Car safety standards. Really hope LTA and even AD collaborate hand in hand to increase our car safety standard while maintaining a reasonable pricing across the board . Not just focusing on COE , car margin while neglecting on the safety features .

Lets assume a Picanto has got a 5-star NCAP rating. If you feel offended that i use Picanto as an example, then lets use a small hatch as the example instead And I know the XC60 has also got a 5-star NCAP rating. So in the event a Picanto and a XC60 had a full head on collision, does it mean the damage to each car is the same? And the driver in the both cars would suffer the same kind of injuries?

http://paultan.org/2012/02/08/asean-ncap-p...ncap-next-week/ The ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) pilot project is set to have its protocols finalised next week in Sydney, when representatives from the programme meet their Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) counterparts for a week long collaboration on the matter. The release of the ASEAN NCAP protocol is set for March 16. This follows on the collaborative Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP) and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) in December last year to establish a pilot project for a South-East Asian NCAP to elevate motor vehicle safety standards, encourage a market for safer vehicles and raise consumer awareness in the region. Signatories to this MOU include ANCAP as well as the Automobile Associations of Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. ANCAP

In its latest crash test, Euro NCAP tested a China made vehicle for the first time, the Landwind CV9. Although the Chinese maker claims it has revamped the car to meet the strictest European safety standards, the mid-sized MPV only managed a two star rating. However, Euro NCAP noted that the CV9 came close to meeting the three star threshold for adult protection, hence there is still hope.Dr. Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP's Secretary General, commented: "It is clear that vehicles from China, India and other emerging countries will in the next few years become commonplace on European roads. Euro NCAP will ensure that consumers know what levels of safety are offered by these vehicles. By highlighting differences in safety performance, we aim to drive the safety of all cars towards and beyond the high levels we see from more well established manufacturers. We are confident that Landwind and others will rise to this challenge". In 2005, Landwind tried to attract European buyers with the X6 SUV, based on Isuzu Rodeo/Opel Frontera underpinnings. However, it failed miserably after ADAC conducted a crash test and rated it with zero stars. For non-European reader

1. We've been hearing/reading about NCAP crash rating for cars. How about NCAP Pedestrian Safety rating? Is this what a responsible car manufacturer should keep in mind in their designs and that concerned car buyers should also be made aware of it? 2. The new Hyundai Santa Fe was sharply criticised by ECAP for scoring zero in pedestrain safety rating. It is the only 4th such car to do so in 11 years. 3. Chairman of NCAP, Claes Tingvall commented that for Santa Fe not to score a single point shows Hyundai had made no effort to protect Pedestrian and reflects a worrying disregard for road users. Kia was also not spared. Its Magentis only scored one star. What do you think? Regards,

The SEAT Altea has scored excellent marks in the stringent crash-tests carried out by the prestigious Euro NCAP organisation: five stars for occupants safety, four stars for child safety and three stars for pedestrian safety. These results, officially announced today, give the Altea an unique position in the compact mono-space category. Similarly, the new SEAT Toledo, a model developed along the same lines as the Altea, would score an equivalent result in these crash tests, given that its structure and safety features are identical to the Altea. On learning of these results, Dr. Andreas Schleef, SEAT President said:
