  1. https://www.businessinsider.com/nasa-engineers-puzzled-by-mysterious-signals-from-voyager-1-2022-5 NASA said Voyager 1 is sending data that doesn't match the spacecraft's movements. The veteran spacecraft has been exploring our solar system and interstellar space since 1977. It is now 14.5 billion miles away from Earth, making it the most distant human-made object. NASA's Voyager 1 is continuing its journey beyond our solar system, 45 years after it was launched. But now the veteran spacecraft is sending back strange data, puzzling its engineers. NASA said on Wednesday that while the probe is still operating properly, readouts from its attitude articulation and control system — AACS for short — don't seem to match the spacecraft's movements and orientation, suggesting the craft is confused about its location in space. The AACS is essential for Voyager to send NASA data about its surrounding interstellar environment as it keeps the craft's antenna pointing right at our planet. "A mystery like this is sort of par for the course at this stage of the Voyager mission," Suzanne Dodd, a project manager for Voyager 1 and 2 at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a statement. "The spacecraft are both almost 45 years old, which is far beyond what the mission planners anticipated." NASA said Voyager 1's twin, the Voyager 2 probe, is behaving normally. Launched in 1977 to explore the outer planets in our solar system, Voyager 1 has remained operational long past expectations and continues to send information about its journeys back to Earth. The trailblazing craft left our solar system and entered interstellar space in 2012. It is now 14.5 billion miles away from Earth, making it the most distant human-made object. NASA said that from what its engineers can tell, Voyager 1's AACS is sending randomly generated data that does not "reflect what's actually happening onboard." But even if system data suggests otherwise, the spacecraft's antenna seems to be properly aligned — it is receiving and executing commands from NASA and sending data back to Earth. It said that so far the system issue hasn't triggered the aging spacecraft to go into "safe mode," during which it carries out only essential operations. "Until the nature of the issue is better understood, the team cannot anticipate whether this might affect how long the spacecraft can collect and transmit science data," NASA said. Dodd and her team hope to figure out what's prompting the robot emissary from Earth to send junky data. "There are some big challenges for the engineering team," Dodd said. A major one: It takes light 20 hours and 33 minutes to get to Voyager's current interstellar location, so a round-trip message between the space agency and Voyager takes two days. "But I think if there's a way to solve this issue with the AACS, our team will find it," Dodd added.
  2. Seems like SPF and MSM is keeping very quiet about this incident. An area the size of a football field was cordoned off for six hours in Ang Mo Kio on Tuesday (Sept 26) after a flaming cylindrical object was tossed into a hawker centre, sparking panic. According to a report in Lianhe Wanbao on Wednesday, there were over 50 police officers at the scene. The incident took place at Block 226 in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, where Kebun Baru Food Centre is located. The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the incident at 4.40pm and it sent a fire engine to the scene. The fire was extinguished by two hawkers prior to its arrival. No one was injured in the case of mischief by fire, according to police. Investigations are ongoing. The Straits Times understands that no arrests have been made yet. The object was thrown from 50m outside the hawker centre by an unidentified person, reported Lianhe Wanbao. Stall vendors were preparing for the dinner crowd, when they head a loud sound. One of them said he saw a ball of light heading towards his stall, and he was frightened and worried that it was going to explode. According to Lianhe Wanbao, he then used a metal hook from the fruit stall to hit it away. It started burning after it landed under a table, and had to be extinguished by two hawkers with a fire extinguisher.
  3. Kazakhstan: Mysterious black ring spotted floating in the sky I hope there is a mcfer who are good in science here to tell us more about it. Residents spotted a mysterious phenomenon in the sky above the Shortandy village, near Astana, Saturday. Roughly one kilometre (0.6 miles) above ground, a large black ring was floating in the air for around 15 minutes. It then disappeared completely, leaving no trace behind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTLhPo5Iv3A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NTz5cbltXA

  6. Hi all brothers, Got a shock of my life when I was driving along TPE heading towards Hougang just now. Saw a blue Alfa Romeo and was thinking of having some fun. We both exit at Hougang and was stuck at the traffic light. Thinking that my modified 205bhp SiR (dyno-tested) should be able to beat him flat. When the light turned green, I go on at full throttle thinking that it will be another victory over a conti. To my atonishment, the alfa romeo effortlessly leave me behind and the next moment, I lost him!!!!! How the hell would a Alfa be so fast? I clocked my century sprint at 7 sec flat and he can beat me FLAT!!!!! Any brothers here know who is him? I'm really interested to know what he has done to his car OR if you are the driver who is reading now, let's meet for a coffee.
  7. Saw this at F1.com! As only one driver can ever sit on pole position for a race, and the entire grid wants to finish on the top step of the podium, overtaking is of vital importance to the business of racing. Simplified to its most basic form overtaking is nothing more than gaining track position to get past an opponent. This can be done at the very start of the grand prix, during the dash towards the first corner
