https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/bus-stop-pillars-marine-parade-parkway-chee-hong-tat-4461911 Ok… I am not that sad over how stupid that bus stop design is but more about our minister reaction to it… it is obviously a mistake in design and yet minister took lta explanation and try to justify it. We can build huge underground mrt lines and we cannot build a functional bus stop because of a drain??? Common just reroute the drain or work around it. U can’t say because of a drain, u build a bus stop where people cannot see buses coming… And our brilliant minister fix is to install video screens???? Those video screens can show buses coming but can you make out the bus number??? I think minister never use a camera before or understand how human vision work. To be able to make out the bus number early, u need a giant screen…. the right fix is to redo the bus stop to remove those pillars from the front but that would admit the mistake in the first place… is it that hard to admit a mistake that they want to waste even more tax payers money trying to find and implement a work around???

Daniel Rushing probably won’t be eating Krispy Kreme doughnuts in his car any more. The 64-year-old was arrested on drug charges when Orlando police officers spotted four tiny flakes of glaze on his floorboard and thought they were pieces of crystal methamphetamine, The Orlando Sentinel reports. Cpl. Shelby Riggs-Hopkins wrote in an arrest report that during a traffic stop on 11 December she noticed the flakes on the floorboard. Two roadside drug tests were positive for the illegal substance and Rushing was arrested. But a state crime laboratory test cleared him several weeks later. “It was incredible,” Rushing said. “It feels scary when you haven’t done anything wrong and get arrested ... It’s just a terrible feeling.” Chelsea Manning faces solitary confinement and charges after suicide attempt Read more It started on a Friday afternoon when Rushing dropped off a neighbor at a hospital for a weekly chemotherapy session. Then, he drove to a convenience store to pick up a friend who needed a ride home. Riggs-Hopkins said she was staking out the area for drug activity. Rushing told her he had a concealed weapons permit, according to an arrest report. She asked him to step out of his car and noticed a “rock like substance” on the floorboard. “I recognized through my eleven years of training and experience as a law enforcement officer the substance to be some sort of narcotic,” she wrote. Rushing agreed to a vehicle search. “I didn’t have anything to hide,” he said. “I’ll never let anyone search my car again.” Riggs-Hopkins and other officers spotted three other pieces of the substance. “I kept telling them, ‘That’s ... glaze from a doughnut,” Rushing said. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine with a firearm and spent 10 hours in jail before being released on bond. The Florida’s law enforcement department told the newspaper that an analyst in its Orlando crime lab did not try to identify what police found in the car, only to determine whether it was an illegal drug. They determined it was not and three days after Rushing’s arrest the state attorney’s office dropped the charges. Rushing, who retired after 25 years as an Orlando parks department employee, told the newspaper he had hired a lawyer and plans to sue the city because he was arrested “for no reason at all”. Orlando police said in a statement that the arrest was lawful.

Reading through some posts here, I found that quite many of the forummers here actually paid out of their own pocket for road incidents that are no fault of theirs. Claiming from insurance affects their NCD too. These usually occur when the defaulting party at fault lied in the reporting, no guts to admit or ran away etc. I never understood how these people can be so low life. They should just own up, pay up and move on with their heads held high like a man. Anyway, has these kind of incidents happened to you before? where you need to pay for the mistakes of others? I guess its just part and parcel of driving?

need advice as cause some insurance mistake agent helped me to source for insurance...so got the lowest quote from hsbc for $xxx, period starts from 14/1/2012 ltr when cleaning my car then discover i had actually extend my insurance with chartis when converting my car to opc so as to renew road tax, cvrs until 3/6/2012 so faster notify the agent.....she then ltr called to say hsbc can cancel the new policy but must charge $50,and they had already deducted the $xxx from my card sure suck man....kanna $50 for nothing so i propose the following but dun know if hsbc will buy what i propose is i promise to renew with hsbc when it is finally due to renew my insurance, hence propose to hsbc to retain the $940.24 and use it to renew for 4/6/2012 onwards. need be i can top up or any excess they can use to extend the insurance(i am willing to top up for any extension) worse case being the total cancellation under bo pian policy and last of renewing under hsbc anymore as far as i am concerned and she being my agent, even if i need pay slightly more to renew elsewhere.

From Yahoo!: http://m.yahoo.com/w/news_asia/dna-samples...amp;.lang=en-sg DNA samples from criminal cases to be re-tested after HSA mistake By Fann Sim | Yahoo! Newsroom - 34 minutes ago DNA samples in 87 criminal cases will be re-tested following the discovery of an error by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA)'s DNA profiling laboratory. In a statement on Tuesday, the HSA said in August it was found that a reagent of 10 times higher than usual concentration was prepared and used as part of the DNA testing process. The batch of reagent was used between October 2010 and August 2011, but the impact of the reagent used is small, HSA said. The error rendered DNA tests less sensitive in detecting DNA profiles present in samples. The retesting is expected to yield additional DNA profiles in less than 5 per cent of the samples, HSA added. To date, the first set of re-test results showed that only 2 out of 850 samples indicated additional reportable information, such as a DNA profile of another person not previously detected was obtained. HSA assured that the previous tests will not cause any false positive results leading to wrongful identification of a person or inferring the presence of a person who was not there. Separately, the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) released a statement and said it has requested re-testing from the 87 cases in which DNA test results may be relied upon by the Prosecution, the Defence of the courts. DNA evidence by itself does not prove any person

First time came across the mentioning of this Act in the thread XXX good buddy CEO saw not stepping down...WTF & link: http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?showtopic=2672570 mentioned by MCF bro Duckduck in post #02. In actual fact, we strongly suspect that this Act, which has no equivalence elsewhere in the entire planet & throughout 9 galaxies, has been in existence for quite a while but just that not much was mentioned officially. By definition & in all practical purposes, this is the single most powderful Act ever created and the Terrorism Act actually pales in comparison. In this Act, all mistakes minor and major will be classified as honest mistakes (hence giving it the name Honest Mistake Act or HMA) & the person or party making them will be forgiven without any reprimands nor penalties imposed. Not even a slap on the wrist-type of warnings will be issued. It's origin could be traced to the S$388m wrongly paid out to a local telco years back and the man himself called this an honest mistake then and urged all to move along. That we believe led to the creation of HMA henceforth. In recent years, the HMA seemed to have been invoked many times succesfully and likely to be enhanced even further in years to come. The latest train disruption fiasco is another prime example that this HMA will be used again so at the end of the day all will be forgiven and life goes on... Ho ho ho, merry Xmas everyone!!!! [laugh]

Sunday, January 02, 2011ERP fine My car pass a ERP gantry point with the ERP card not properly inserted. I discovered it immediately and called to inform LTA. They said, "wait for the notice". The ERP notice came one week later. The ERP fee was $1 and the fine was $10. I wonder why the LTA refused to collect the $1 from me, when I found the mistake. They wanted to impose the fine of $10 for the oversight. This is inconsiderate. They government wants to make a profit from an honest mistake! I am aware that the LTA did have some administrative work to print and mail the notice. But this is work that they create for themselves under their system. If they have a friendlier system, they could have taken my report and notify the computer that the matter was settled. But, the LTA preferred to follow their own procedure, for their own convenience, and impost a cost on the citizens. I hope that our government leaders and civil servants realize that they have to treat the people fairly and not impose a burden on them. Tan Kin Lian Report Nuff said.....

From Wanbao. Mother blames school for "mistake" of timing of O Levels DNT paper. The time schedule clearly wrote 0800 but the student read it as 0300 and thought it was afternoon 3pm. He only realised the mistake when the school called them at 750am to ask why haven't leach school, the mother drove him down and by then it was already 820am. The boy could only finish 70% of the paper and left the hall in tears and claims that his A1 flew away. Mother claimed that the time schedule never print clear enough, wants the school to take full responsibility. Principal replied back and say there was no way it could be 0300 as that would be 3am. No exams would be held during 3am and if its 3pm, it will be shown as 1500 so you all think it is whose fault?? Me certainly think its the boy's fault and it seems like the mother is damn kp type.

NB...copy cat. Our goverment should patent this word "honest mistake" ============================ http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_583583.html US says sorry over flag It was an 'honest mistake' that the Philippine flag was displayed inverted, center right. This wrongfully signified that the South-east Asian nation was in a state of war. -- PHOTO: AP WASHINGTON - THE United States government apologised for displaying the Philippine flag upside down at an event in New York attended by President Barack Obama on Friday, calling it an 'honest mistake.' The red-white-and-blue Philippine flag adorned with yellow stars was hanging upside down, with red on top instead of blue, when Mr Obama met his counterpart Philippine President Benigno Aquino during a gathering of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In the Philippines, an inverted flag signals the nation is in a state of war. 'This was an honest mistake,' said Rebecca Thompson, US embassy spokesperson in Manila. 'The US treasures its close relationship and close partnership with the Philippines.' Thompson did not say who made the mistake or how it happened. - REUTERS

I have always been very supportive of Singtel bringing in the Iphone 3GS which I pre-ordered with Singtel as well. All these years I have been with Singtel as a loyal customer despite its terrible service as compared to Starhub. On the 9th of July 2010 11:10pm I received an email regarding Singtel's Iphone 4 registration of interest. Being very interested in the Iphone I jumped at this opportunity and immediately registered for the Iphone 4. I then received the email confirming my registration of interest for the Iphone 4. So with great patience I waited and waited. For over 2 weeks i waited patiently. On the 27th of July 11:11pm, 2 days before the official Iphone 4 launch, I received another email from Singtel saying that they would waive my $300 early upgrade fee for the Iphone 4 specifically until the 30th of September 2010. Seeing this, I was reassured that my name was on the Singtel list for the Iphone 4 despite the lack of information from the 9th till the 27th. I did not receive any invite later on for the Iphone 4 launch at Marina Bay Sands on the 29th of July. I knew it must have been for selected customers only and so I kept waiting. During this time period, I had also registered my interest for an Iphone 4 for my wife from Starhub and they contacted me to collect my Iphone 4 on the 16th of August despite the fact that I registered my interest with them much later than Singtel. There was also no need for any "reservation" to get this Iphone 4 from Starhub. Starhub handled my request expertly with every need for speed. I finally got tired of waiting and called Singtel on the 18th of August in the evening. To my horror, Singtel informed me that my name was not on the Iphone "reservation" list and that registration of interest is entirely separate from reservation of the Iphone. So after waiting for over a month, I had nothing to show for it. Singtel did not bother to even send its loyal customer a single sms or email to inform me that I would have to "reserve" an Iphone. This despite Singtel having ready stock immediately after the launch. Singtel did not have to courtesy to update me and left me waiting for a phone. Despite my evident displeasure, I went down to Westmall on the 19th in the evening to reserve the Iphone 4. Unfortunately, 2 days after on the 21st of August, the heavy downpour left me with a malfunctioning Iphone 3GS and I needed an Iphone 4 urgently. I rang up Singtel and spoke to their customer service officer Mas on the 23rd of August 2010 at 6.30pm. She reassured me that she would expedite the request for an Iphone 4 and let me know of the result within 2 days. On the 25th of August evening, having not heard from Mas, I once again called Singtel up and their Customer Service Officer Alena spoke to me promising me that they would give me an answer on whether they would be able to give me an Iphone 4 immediately through a call-back later that night. I waited and waited for that call but it never did materialise. Finally, today 26th August I called Singtel to enquire as to why they did not give me a call-back. At 6:25pm, a customer service officer named Subra took my call and was unable to give me an adequate answer. He brought me round and round. He told me that he would have to get back to me regarding as to whether they would be able to provide me with an Iphone 4.I refused because I knew their call-back would either 1) not materialise as before 2) give me an inconclusive answer. Finally I insisted on speaking to his manager yet he told me his manager was not free and he would arrange for a call-back due to the high-call volume. This is very ridiculous. I was very frustrated and told him I would be willing to hold the line until his manager can answer the phone. Finally after holding for an additional 10 minutes, his manager Phaya answered the phone at 7.00pm and spoke to me. I explained the situation to him calmly yet he was still unable to provide me with a solution. I quote verbatim "Sir, I can only forward your concerns to the marketing department as unverified feedback." I continued to haggle with him and he said "Sir, why do you keep pushing me? There is nothing I can do." He was unable to provide me with a satisfactory answer as to why Singtel did not inform me that I would need to reserve the phone. He continually insisted that I should have called multiple times to check on the status on the Iphone.I asked him then what did I register my interest for? He claimed it is only to gauge the interest level regardless of the line owner. Phaya repeatedly mentioned that it was based on a first come first serve basis and the first few thousand customers to register their interest were notified. So is he saying that within minutes of the email being sent, a few thousand requests were already lodged? So finally I have decided i will write in to Straits Times forum and see what their GM thinks of this. To start with, it is due to Singtel's lapse in judgement that this problem occured to start with.Make no mistake, this is Singtel's fault. Why was Starhub able to provide on multiple accounts? Singtel, please provide me with a satisfactory answer as to why is it that customers were not kept updated between the 9th of July till the launch on the 29th of July. Why is it that Singtel failed to follow up on the requests on interest registration. So we registered for fun? Customers who reserved their Iphones on the 5-9th August have already gotten their Iphones and clients who register early dont? Singtel has to seriously consider reviewing its customer service policy. Is it fair that the customer pays for its failings? Why is it that even when given the opportunity to remedy the situation Singtel chooses to disregard its customers concerns? Has Singtel grown complacent?

I received a letter today from MINDEF about "Failure to notify on Overseas Trips" during my holiday on 25th to 28th March 2010. I'm surprised because I've not done so since my ORD on 1993. I'm not an active NS personnel and I'm PES E type, I've not gone through BMT. I've asked before after ORD that I do not need to do so. I've written to MINDEF to clarify, waiting for their reply. Is this a new procedure from MINDEF for PES E personnel?

I was reviewing my past purchase invoice/payments for my Dec 2006 Picnic and seem to me there was an overcharging in the final invoice most probably by double entries of the booking fees by BM; i.e S$6,300. Example : Car Price : S$ 82,000 Loan Amount: S$ 30,000 Downpayment: S$ 52,000 Less Book : S$ 6,300 (paid on booking day) Balance : S$ 45,700 Trade-in : S$ 40,600 (toyota 1.5) Outstand : S$ 12,000 loan Final Balance : S$ 17,100 Final Payment : S$ 23,400 (paid as per official receipt) Difference : S$ 23,400 - S$ 17,100 = S$ 6,300 (extra payment ???) Is my calculation of the extra S$6,300 payment to BM correct ? Or did I missed out something ?

A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The officer says, ' I clocked you at 80 miles per hour, sir.' The driver says, 'Gee, officer I had it on cruise control at 60, perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating.' Not looking up from her knitting the wife says: 'Now don't be silly dear, you know that this car doesn't have cruise control.' As the officer writes out the ticket, the driver looks over at his wife and growls, 'Can't you please keep your mouth shut for once?' The wife smiles demurely and says, 'You should be thankful your radar detector went off when it did.' As the officer makes out the second ticket for the illegal radar detector unit, the man glowers at his wife and says through clenched teeth, 'Dammit, woman, can't you keep your mouth shut?' The officer frowns and says, 'And I notice that you're not wearing your seat belt, sir. That's an automatic $75 fine.' The driver says, 'Yeah, well, you see officer, I had it on, but took it off when you pulled me over so that I could get my license out of my back pocket.' The wife says, 'Now, dear, you know very well that you didn't have your seat belt on. You never wear your seat belt when you're driving.' And as the police officer is writing out the third ticket the driver turns to his wife and barks, 'WHY DON'T YOU PLEASE SHUT UP??' The officer looks over at the woman and asks, 'Does your husband always talk to you this way, Ma'am?' ... ... ... ... ... ... I love this part.... : 'Only when he's been drinking.'

Buffett calls Dexter Shoe his worst deal ever Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:40pm EST By Jonathan Stempel NEW YORK (Reuters) - Even Warren Buffett makes mistakes. Sometimes, it's as simple as shoes that don't quite fit. In the course of spending 43 years building Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRKa.N: Quote, Profile, Research) (BRKb.N: Quote, Profile, Research) into a melting pot of more than 70 companies and some $75 billion of equity investments, even the man widely considered America's greatest investor might reasonably be expected to make the odd mistake. Analysts often point to Salomon Brothers, the financial services firm that Buffett helped bail out in the early 1990s after a Treasury bidding scandal, as one of his lesser investments. But in his annual letter to Berkshire shareholders on Friday, Buffett identified at least one that was worse, from about the same period: Dexter Shoe Co. In 1993, Berkshire paid $433 million for the Maine-based company. Rather than use cash, Buffett used Berkshire Class A stock to fund the purchase. That Berkshire stock is worth eight times more now, giving the Omaha, Nebraska-based insurance and investment company a $216 billion market value. Dexter didn't make it that long. It ended shoe production in the United States and Puerto Rico in 2001, and Berkshire folded what was left into its H.H. Brown Shoe Group unit. "What I had assessed as durable competitive advantage vanished within a few years," Buffett wrote on Friday. "By using Berkshire stock, I compounded this error hugely. That move made the cost to Berkshire shareholders not $400 million, but rather $3.5 billion. In essence, I gave away 1.6 percent of a wonderful business -- one now valued at $220 billion -- to buy a worthless business." "To date, Dexter is the worst deal that I've made," Buffett went on. "But I'll make more mistakes in the future - you can bet on that. A line from Bobby Bare's country song explains what too often happens with acquisitions: 'I've never gone to bed with an ugly woman, but I've sure woke up with a few.'" Saw the late night news last night in regard to the lost of 2 very important disks in England. Also read in today ST at page 3 : Disks containing confidential information of 7.25 British familes get lost in post. A massive security blunder in British has left almost half the country's population at the risk of identity theft and bank fraud. The risk arose after two disks containing the names, addresses, dates of birth, national insurance numbers and some cases, banking details for 25 million adults and children went missing. Private records of 7.25 million families claiming child benefit - a tax-free monthly payment available to everyone with children - were on the disks. Major security breach What the disks contain:Names, addresses, birth dates, national insurance numbers and, in some cases, banking details of 25 million adults and children.
