The 2012 Geneva Motor Show has brought many automakers to the land famous for founding the Red Cross, chocolates, fine timepieces and etc. During this event, Ford has plenty to show the world what they have come up with. Other than the Fiesta ST, Tourneo concept van and the Kuga (or Escape), Ford has unveiled an important model which is the B-Max. You might ask; why is it important? Firstly, the B-Max targets the mini MPV market segment which has increased in popularity. A mini MPV is suitable for those who are looking for a car that provides extra space but not too large in overall dimensions (easy to manoeuvre around). And the B-Max offers not only that but something else that is rather innovative. The B-Max is based on the same platform used on the Fiesta and it does not have a B-pillar. Ford has emphasised that this feature is mainly for easy access into the rear seating area. How did Ford achieve this? This ingenious design integrates the central body pillars into the hinged front doors and the rear sliding doors. The usage of ultra high-strength steel for the integrated central body pillars offers five times more strength, if compared to the usage of ordinary mild steel. And Ford has ensured that this provides excellent crash protection especially from a side impact. This unique feature creates a wide opening which enables someone to load or unload bulky items and it is also useful for large sized passengers to move in and out of the rear passenger compartment. The B-Max is available with several petrol and engine types and the highlight is the all-new 1.0 litre, three cylinder engine from the EcoBoost engine family. The engine is mated to a six-speed dual- clutch transmission and it features a turbocharged direct injection and also a start-stop system. The Ford B-Max will go on sale in Europe later this year as a 2013 model. Photo credit: Net Car Show and Auto Blog

[extract] When Renault took over Dacia in the late 1990s, the Romanian automaker car models look rather drab. Most of their cars had boxy shaped shells, as though the cars were from the 1970s or 1980s. Some would contribute this to the Communists influence in Romania (could

OK my group of friends are having a crazy idea to go up KL on the Deepavali weekend. 6 adults including the driver. Obviously my puny car can't do it so I'm thinking of renting an minivan. I'm faced with this decision. Which is the better car for the job? Toyota Estima Chrysler Grand Voyager Honda Odyssey Any inputs from owners of these respective cars?

We've been hearing the rumors for over a year, and it's now looking increasingly likely that Toyota is getting ready to launch a new hybrid minivan that will wear the Prius nameplate. If true, this would be the first completely new vehicle added to the Prius stable, where it would join the well-known hatchback sometime in 2011. According to Reuters (which is citing the Japanese Nikkei), this new Prius hybrid minivan may be the first such vehicle from Toyota equipped with an in-house developed lithium ion battery pack. The three-row vehicle, which we can only presume would also have sliding doors, would potentially seat up to seven people, expanding Toyota's hybrid technology further into the family-use market. No other details are available other than the notion that Toyota would like to keep the price close to that of standard minivans currently on the market. Stay tuned for more as we hear it.

LYNWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Investigators are looking for the driver of a speeding minivan who crashed into a smaller car with such force that the car split in half. An investigation is underway in Lynwood after an incredibly violent crash killed one person early Sunday morning. The victim who died in the crash was driving a Honda Accord. His car was split in half. Friends identified the victim as 37-year-old Jose Juan Valenzuela Ramos. Officials are searching for the driver of a maroon minivan who fled the scene on foot. The collision happened at approximately 1 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue. Authorities say that the minivan was travelling south on Atlantic Avenue when it crashed into the Honda at the intersection. The impact was so extreme the Honda was split apart. Ramos died from his injuries at the scene. A section of the Honda ended up on a sidewalk by a gas station. A witness described what she saw. "We were going up Atlantic and we saw this van going 70 to 75 mph. I told my husband little does he know there's a cop in front of him and they're going to catch him. Through my rear view mirror I see him impact the car and the car just cuts in two pieces," said Itziar Contreras, witness. Again the driver of the minivan ran away from the scene. A passenger in his vehicle was detained by police for questioning and authorities say that they are following some leads. Anyone with information is urged to call the L.A. County Sheriff's Department at (323) 568-4800. Links with pics and video here
