Hi asking for my dad. For the Non-S Cooper, how is the maintenance like? Fuel consumption, insurance and regular servicing cost (AD versus outside workshops) ? If getting used, anything to look out for? Thanks!

Mini Cooper and Toyota flip after high speed crash, causing massive jam
Fadevfast posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
A Mini Cooper S launched itself at a Toyota camcar in Kluang, causing a massive jam and turning both cars into wrecks on their sides. What happened? The camcar was sitting at the junction when the Mini turned in towards the camcar's right, going too fast and hitting the camcar head on. This resulted in both cars being flipped on their side. We can see in the video that debris littered the road, metal and glass coming from the damaged bodywork of both cars. Some passersby helped out to get the cars back on their wheels in order to be towed away. The accident caused a traffic jam that went for an unknown distance. The conditions of the drivers are unknown. Online chatter Many people were angered by the Mini’s unsafe driving, and took note of its Singapore registration to use it as an example of bad Singaporean drivers. Some also made fun of the Mini’s spoiler, which was unable to give it enough downforce to keep from flipping. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Cam car driver in distress after rear ending a Mini Cooper along Sembawang Road
millanda posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
TL;DR - Cam car rear ended Mini Cooper along Sembawang Road and seeks advice on what s/he should do next. What to do if you hit a car from behind in Singapore? Watch this 28-second clip of the cam car kissing the back of the Mini Cooper. What happened? The cam car was traveling a safe distance behind the Mini when the Mini decided to filter lane and brake simultaneously. This caused the cam car to bang into it as s/he did not manage to react and e-brake fast enough. 0% defensive driving skills… 100% zoning out… Just a random question I had in mind while watching the video: Is it true that all rear end collisions are caused by the vehicle behind? Cautionary Reminder It is important to keep a safe distance between your vehicle and other vehicles or non-motorists on the road. If you drive a car in Singapore, a following-distance of at least one car length for every 16 km/h of your speed is advised, so that you can come to a stop within a safe distance of the car in front of you. Online Chatter There seems to be a mini (geddit?) debate in the comments section. There are people who are siding the cam car, sharing their two cents on this situation. But of course, the majority has come to a consensus that it is the cam car’s fault. Takeaway To practice road safety in Singapore, you not only need to know the rules set out for you, but you need to be vigilant of all road users, regardless of the type of vehicle. Always keep a safe distance, so that you are not forced to brake abruptly. So who do you think is at fault in this rear-end collision? You be the judge in the comments box below. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Integrity is an essential character-building value that requires one to be accountable and accept responsibility for his/her actions. Essentially, it can be understood as "doing the right thing, even when no one is looking". Unfortunately for this couple, integrity means nothing to them. Watch this video to find out why: The Backstory The owner of the Mini Cooper returned to the Multi-storey carpark (MSCP), only to discover her damaged Mini Cooper. A gentleman, the eyewitness, informed her that the Toyota Corolla beside her reversed into her car twice while parking. Later, she learned that the kind eyewitness had waited in the carpark because a note that he placed on the Mini Cooper, which contained his personal contact information, had gone missing. Shortly after, the couple driving the Toyota Corolla, AKA the culprits, returned to the MSCP. After the Mini driver confronted them, the couple acted blur and brushed her off. The husband allegedly turned aggressive and shouted at the Mini driver, "I pay lah, what's the big deal? I pay!", only to be instructed by his wife to get into the car and ignore the Mini driver. Even when the Mini driver was on a call with the Traffic Police and instructed them to stay until TP arrived at their location, the couple ignored and attempted to drive off. Unfortunately for the couple, their attempt was caught in the above video. Attempted To Run Her Over In the process of preventing the couple from driving off, the Mini driver stood in front of the Toyota Corolla. However, the driver continued to drive off, endangering the victim's life. The Consequence Under section 84 of the Road Traffic Act, the driver at fault is liable to perform the following: Stop their vehicle. Provide their personal information to the accident victim(s), including passengers or pedestrians, upon request. Report the accident to the police within 24 hours. Provide assistance if the accident involves injury or death to another person. Do not move the vehicle(s) involved in the accident. To all those reading this article, please do not endanger your life in the process of retaining a hit and run culprit - Your safety is of paramount importance. Netizens' Comments Somemore bo ji to own up to their own mistakes. If you have a solid parking technique, you won't have to rely on reverse cameras😉 This couple really ownself pwn ownself. I guess you can add "Dangerous driving - Driving against the flow of traffic" to the list of traffic charges. ======== Receive a $10 PayNow for every submission we publish on Facebook! Mini says that it has stepped out of the ‘retro’ design philosophy and is embarking on a new era of design that will see the brand progress with a new distinct flavour that still maintains the core DNA of the brand’s iconic styling. Speaking to the Australian media at the Frankfurt motor show last week, the senior vice president of Mini, Sebastian Mackensen, said that with the appointment of a new head of design, the company is embarking on a new design challenge, one which remains critical to the brand as the styling of its vehicles are hugely important to its customer base. “The design is of utmost importance because Mini is a lifestyle brand,” Mackensen said. “I don’t like that word too much… but in the meaning of that word it is a lifestyle brand you don’t buy transportation, if you purchase a Mini if you want to drive from A to B, you can buy many different vehicles if you want to do that for smaller cost… so if you drive a Mini you buy emotion and driving fun and you also buy a certain statement and belonging to a brand, and part of that brand statement is not just the heritage and history of the brand but clearly as well the design.” According to Mackensen, changes coming to the brand will be noticeable however even a six-year-old child should be able to tell what is a new Mini from having been able to identify the current and older vehicles. “If he wouldn’t see a Mini driving around a corner and wouldn’t say a Mini, we would’ve made a mistake in the design but that doesn’t mean a Mini needs to look the same for 20 years in a row, that’s a fine line and I think we need to progress, every brand every design needs to progress but you need to have certain anchor points and staples that you shouldn’t play with.” As of this month, Mini has appointed Oliver Heilmer as its new head of design, having taken over from the previous boss Anders Warming who set off to design for the reborn Borgward marque. Meanwhile, any plans of Mini creating a larger model in the future appear to have been shelved, with the brand focusing on its core models and even further reducing its model range going forward. “We have no plans to stretch that further right now… We have reduced actually the complexity of the portfolio in recent years, because the Mini Paceman, the Roadster and the Coupe didn’t get successor models and we are happy with that decision because it’s the niche of the niche.” Mackensen admitted that whilst markets such as Australia may be able to absorb large Mini models, it’s still not on the brand’s agenda. “When we go into size, you might be able to absorb a bigger Mini but we have no plan to do a bigger mini beyond a Countryman.” Changes to the Mini design philosophy under Heilmer will become more apparent and visible with upcoming concept vehicles and future models.

Having sampled the excellent F56 Cooper S when we went up to KL to interview the talented men that created the cool MINI Cooper S video, I was looking forward to drive the lesser Cooper. Lesser? Maybe not. While it may have 56 less horses and one cylinder less, it is by no means slow or boring. The car also takes 7.8 seconds to hit the century mark, which is 1.1 seconds faster than its distant sibling in the family, the BMW 116i hatcback. Putting the car into SPORT mode makes it even more alert. Go-kart feel? Definitely feels like it, with its compact dimensions and well-sorted handling. I especially like the way the rear tries to assist in turning and its agility. And then when you try to poke deeper into its menus, you can see sweet little details that make the driver smile. Like, instead of naming it 'Sport Displays', MINI calls it 'Driving Excitement'. Which will then show how much power and torque you are trying to put to the wheels. For the eagle-eyed, this photo is from a Cooper S ;) Another nice touch is this bright red start-stop toggle. Elsewhere in the cabin, you will find useful spaces which would prove useful in storing stuff on your B-road blasts across the Causeway. While the pure MINI fans may disagree, moving the window controls to where they should be is one of the best improvement for the F56 MINI in my opinion. So is the Cooper lesser than a Cooper S? Not at all! I barely miss the extra poke and it might actually ride better than its more well-endowed brother while being just as fun to pilot. Like they say, less might indeed be more. Jay Leno's garage newest addition, a "Twin-Engined" MINI Cooper
Deeq posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YL7pURth3oThe latest vehicle to make an appearance in Jay Leno's garage is a twin-engined 2002 MINI Cooper. Think of it as one man's very straight forward way of doubling his car's horsepower. The MINI has its original engine and transaxle at the front as normal, but it also has a duplicate powertrain at the back, driving the rear wheels. It's a setup similar to the twin-engined Honda CRX project car built by Car and Driver in the 1980s. Weirdly, the decision to build a twin-engined, all-wheel drive MINI Cooper seemed fiscally responsible to its builder, Jacques Andres. He told Jay that having two cheaper four-cylinder engines made more sense than having one big, expensive V-8. Each 1.6-liter supercharged four-cylinder produces about 250 horsepower. It also gives Andres a backup: each engine can be operated individually, so the car can limp home with two-wheel drive in a pinch. However, the starting procedure is a bit more complex than the average MINI: each engine runs individually (although they're fed from the same fuel pump and tank), so they have to be started one at a time. The car isn't just for show; it spends plenty of time on the track mixing it up with other MINI racers and the occasional Porsche. What else would you do with a car like this?- 2 comments

http://dai.ly/x1i70ci We have seen car stunts gone wrong, but few are as lucky as Guerlain Chicherit. The French rally driver was practicing for a World Record jump at the ski resort of Tignes in France when he fell short and suffered a massive crash, Chicherit was attempting a 360-foot (109.7 metres) jump to break the current record of 332-foot (101.2 metres) in his specially prepared MINI. He survived the crash and was taken to the hospital.

Who needs parking assistance when you have the parking abilities of German stunt driver, Ronny Wechselberger? Known as Ronny C Rock in Germany, he has set a new Guinness World Record for the tightest parallel parking with only 14 cm of space between the other two cars. The stunt was performed in a Volkswagen Up!, which measures just 3.54m. The car is sandwiched between two other Up! models. Ronny parked in car into a 3.68m space which was electronically measured using a measuring tape and a laser device. The new record The new record beats the previous record marginally by 1 cm. The old record was set earlier this year by Chinese stunt driver, Han Yue, in a MINI Cooper. The timing between the two records was just 11 days. Drivers, please don't try this at home! The previous record

Just a couple of months ago, Mini announced that they will expand their line-up with a new model and that model will be the all new Mini Paceman. The Paceman is styled as a coupe interpretation of the Countryman and it is set for a launch in the United Kingdom in March 2013. Four versions of the Paceman will be made available when it arrives, including the Mini Cooper S Paceman which will have a 0-100km/h timing of around 7.5 seconds. The seventh unique member of the Mini family will sit alongside the Hatch, Clubman, Convertible, Countryman, Coupe and Roadster. The Paceman has been created to appeal to a new type of design-conscious customer. The prominent horizontal lines and dynamic curved surfaces give the promise of sporting performance, yet there is an elegant simplicity to the overall form of the car. The three door Paceman is built on the Countryman platform. Bumper to bumper the car is 4,109 mm (4,115mm for the Mini Cooper S Paceman and Cooper SD Paceman), which makes it almost identical in size to its sibling. The upright front grille, complete with hexagonal radiator grille and broad chrome surround, gives the Paceman genuine presence. Its coupe-style stretched side profile features long doors, while the blacked-out pillars create a 'floating' roof concept, as already seen on the Mini Coupe. Available in either black, white or body colour, the roof gently slopes towards the rear of the car, ending at the spoiler. The horizontal arrangement of the rear lights, which accentuates the car's width, is a first for Mini. The Paceman is the only member of the brand's line-up to be identified by a rear nameplate. The car's interior has been designed specifically for this model. Its highlight is the innovative rear seat, which has been styled around a lounge concept. Two individual chairs provide generous levels of head, shoulder and knee room with outstanding comfort and support. Armrests have been integrated into the rear trim. A two section version of the Mini Centre Rail storage and attachment system (first seen in the Countryman) comes as standard. Paceman customers will have the choice of four powerful four cylinder engines, two petrol and two diesel. All come with a six speed manual gearbox, or the optional six speed automatic with Steptronic function for manual control. The base model will be fitted with a 1.6 litre engine that generates around 122bhp, with a 0-100km/h timing of 10.4 seconds. The Mini Cooper S Paceman will get a similar engine but tuned to deliver 184bhp and a 0-100km/h timing of 7.5 seconds. There are also two diesel engines offered. First is a 1.6 litre unit that makes around 112bhp and the flagship diesel model will get a 2.0 litre unit that churns out 143bhp. Mini

[extract] When the new Mini first emerged around 10 years ago, it was only available in one body type. In other words, there was only one model; the Mini hard-top hatchback. It was offered in several engine variations and trims (Cooper S, John Cooper Works, One, etc.). Five years later, the new Mini was offered in convertible form. Consumers did not have much choice when they look at the new Mini. It was either a hard-top version or a convertible. But starting from 2008, Mini has added two new models. Firstly, it was the Mini Clubman which was basically the estate or elongated version of the Mini hard-top hatchback. Two years later came the Mini Countryman. It was a crossover SUV and the company

It is just a matter of months for the 2012 London Olympics to take place; Mini has released a limited edition of Olympics-inspired Mini Cooper. The cars will hit the road as early as March next year and Mini will only built 2012 units of it. The London 2012 Edition models will come in one of three Union Jack-themed colour schemes which are Chilli Red, White Silver or Lightning Blue. All three will feature white mirror caps, a white roof with the London 2012 logo, and a Union Jack stripe running over the bonnet, roof and rear of the car. The cars will also get specially designed grey 17-inch conical spoke alloy wheels, which are not available on any other model. Inside, a picture of the London skyline is etched across the piano-black dashboard, featuring landmarks like the Tower Bridge and the London Eye. And the patriotic theme extends throughout the cabin: the black leather seats get red, white and blue stitching, as do the headrests, handbrake and floor mats. All models feature extra options such as Lounge Leather sports seats, DAB radio, air-conditioning, cruise control, and chrome interior touches. Start-stop and brake regeneration also come as standard. These cars will be released in the UK and there is no word on whether will they be released overseas. Prices in the UK will start at

Although the market is being increasingly flooded by super-minis these days, the super-mini giant is still the Mini.. ironically. There hasn't been much competition until recently with the launch of the new Fiat 500 and the Audi A1. Now though, theres a new challenger creeping up its back. And its no German Eurobox, its a French Citroen! The DS3 has just been let loose not too long ago and I'm going bonkers over it because I think its such a cute little car and with such a cool yet modern yet retro design all balled up into one lump of fantastic metal. It stands out from the crowd, setting itself apart from the boring and pretentious looking Audi A1 and trumps the re-invented Mini and Fiat 500 by miles. As with the Mini, there are many customization options which we can choose from which is a great thing, though of course the idea comes from the Mini, but who cares really? Since when did car companies have independent brains? Funny thing really, the DS3 shares the same engine as the Mini and yet somehow it feels like a happier place to be. The interior as expected, can be customized to your liking and colour combinations, definitely a hit with the ladies and maybe some guys.. and the Citroen can accommodate up to 5 people instead of 4 in the Mini. As for the powerplant, the 1.6l which produces a decent 118hp which is enough to get around Singapore roads comfortably. With its low emissions, this car is green and tree friendly and its fuel consumption is meager as well. The price is where it starts to hurt a little bit, at 94k, it will make you dig deeper into your pockets but at least you know you'll be owning something thats quite awesome..

This is Audi's latest attempt to dump the Mini from its pedestal as the world's greatest small/compact/hatchback. The supermini market is starting to heat up with the new Fiat 500, the evergreen Mini Cooper, and now theres the Audi A1. Now that it has finally revealed itself to the world, apart from its teaser videos and the innovative day time running lights which do not appear as LED dots anymore, this is a serious hit. Well the first thing I noticed was the oddly coloured A to C pillar roof arch which I assume that is Audi's attempt to make the A1 a little less serious than the rest of cars in its stable. Apparently you can have that in various colours and that may seem like Audi's trying a little too hard, but its a nice-to-have option. The R8 inspired day time running lights is simply genius on a car like this as it adds an upmarket feel to the A1. And that interior which is said to be inspired by aeroplanes, that's obvious if you notice the jet-turbine-like air con vents which gives the car a cool retro feel but I think its still doesn't give as retro a vibe as the Mini does. The A1 is set to be well spec-ed too with Audi's 'infotainment' system which is usually meant for the bigger boys, apparently there will be 20GB in the car's hard drive for music and satellite navigation and it comes with a Bose sound system. I doubt that will ever make it to Singapore since we see very little of the gadgetry that is made standard in Europe, nevertheless, its still better to hope! As for the heart of the A1, its either a 1.4TFSi with 120bhp, capable of 0-100km/h in 9.2 seconds, or 9.1 with the optional flappy-paddle gearbox. The other, is the entry level 1.2TFSI which churns out 85bhp. There's going to be an S-line version of the A1 and a 5 door version, but these will be available at a later date. On an ending note, aeroplane inspired interior? That's like slapping Saab in the face but as a whole, I think the A1 will not disappoint.
