http://www.shell.com/home/PlainPageServlet...se_ga_1509.html Try this "Choosing the right oil" from the above Shell website. Why is mineral engine recommended for 1) Cars above 10 yrs 2) Car above 5 yrs (with regular driving style) I thought synthetic oil is still best overall for cars (if they have been using synthetic from the start). Shell seems to give the impression that synthetic oil is good for cars up to 5 yrs of age only. After the 5th year, they seem to recommend mineral oil. Can anyone explain?

Hi, I bought a Mit Lancer recently. Right after I collected the car, I have checked the engine oil ( pull out the dip-stick ) and noted that the engine oil is light golden transparent ( hardly visible at the dip-stick ). After I have drove it for about 700KM, I checked the oil dip-stick & noted that the colour is slightly darker which is reasonable. Recently I sent in my Mit Lancer to C&C for the 1000Km 1st servicing, free labour & only $50/- for the engine oil change to Mineral Oil. Now I drove it for a further 80Km & I checked the oil dip-stick again, I noted that the engine oil colour is Reddish Brown. Is this the colour of the usual Mineral Engine oil colour used by C&C after you have drove further 80km ? Is the engine oil used supposed to be the same one used when you collect the new car ? If it is, the colour of the 2 engine oils when new ceratinly looked very different. I certainly hope that it is not a situation whereby the oil has not been changed but recorded as have been changed by accident. Any bros here who has sent their car for servicing & use mineral oil can shed some lights on this ?

Yo brothers and sis, I took my ride up north and peaked 6000 - 7000 rpm at times. Me using castrol mineral oil from agent, oil already done 7,000 kms when I started the journey. My whole adventure in the north covered some 1200 kms. Will there be any adverse effect on the engine ? I intend to use the oil up to 10K before the next OCI. Thanks
-
You mean no more Citgo eh? Which grade are you looking at? Malaysia has lots of them if you are looking at 10W30. Somewhere in Taman Tasek, JB, Malaysia selling dino Pennzoil 10W30. Use the blended Schaeffer's oil instead if you don't want the hassle.

For old car like my 92 carburetted Swift, which mineral oil is best for engine noise reduction? For every 5K service, is it compulsory to always change oil filter?
-
My ride will be due for 20,000km servicing soon. My 1st 3 servicing are provided free by MM usuing mineral oil (Shell Helix super). My qtn is, should I use Shell Helix Ultra for my next servicing, or can I just use back the normal mineral oil if I intented to change my engine oil every 5000km (as I think no point paying $100+ for synthetic, as mineral oil cost around $60). Any advise, Thanks!

Any recommendation for a good mineral or synthetic oil? Anyone ever tried comparing mineral oil with synthetic oil say Mobil 1 and found the difference in performance negligible?

I just sent my new car for my 1st servicing (1000KM), ask the guy who work there whether got any option to change to a 'better engine oil'. i dunno whether he got what i mean, anyway he told me only one type available which is the Mineral oil ( i think that's what he said... ) Yet i also got some friends who told me to change to the better one(sythatic? ) so what should i changed to? need some advice from all the experts out there man.... next servicing will be at 5000KM.

Is the statement true? Heard that some distributer uses mineral oil for the first few servicing of VAG cars.
