Hi ! I have a pair of 4 inch component speakers installed in the front dashboard and when up the volume, only hear the sound from the tweeters but no sound coming out from the mid bass speaker. Using the balance control to check, both side still no sound, but the tweeters ok. Was wondering if any bros could provide some advice on the likely cause of no sound. Thanks

i'm thinking of getting this speaker from partsexpress.com, which will cost about $150-160 for 2 people to order, or slightly less for more people. so looking for a partner. it's one of those 6.5 / 7" midbass that has good bass performance, and sounds best if you cross not too high, up to about 2khz or so. and at $150-160 a pair, it's even cheaper than OEM vifa midbasses. it will lose somewhat in performance to expensive stuff like Seas Lotus or Scanspeak (about $500+ a pair at least) but it's said to be better than many low- or mid-end speakers. any1 interested? can read many reviews of it in www.diyma.com forum (search Dayton RS180) but note that it's the 4 ohm version. some of the posts that involved doing serious modification on the speaker was regarding the 8 ohm version. this one doesn't require modification. the mounting depth is about 3" so it's slightly deeper than low-end drivers, but not as deep as some higher end ones. the circle on the door should fit ordinary 6.5" holes (it's about 2.75" diameter circle).

in the higher end 2-way component speakers, what are the more frequently-used crossover points for these 2 way, between the typically 1 inch tweeter and 6.5 inch midbass? is it 3k? 4k? this question is also posed to those running active. what is commonly set amongst u guys for this crossover point?
