  1. Some car workshops use the vacuum method to suck out the engine oil from the dip stick hole. Is this an effective method of removing sludge from the old engine oil? Or is the convenntional method of allowing the engine oil to drip from the undercarriage a more effective method of removing the majority of the old engine oil?
  2. New idea in mortuary science: Dissolving bodies with lye CONCORD, N.H. - Since they first walked the planet, humans have either buried or burned their dead. Now a new option is generating interest
  3. Hi, I'm expecting a new car in a few weeks and am planning to put a few layers of sealant at the very start. I have been using Autoglym SRP and Extra Gloss Protection for my current ride. My question is this: If the car is new, should I still use polish (SRP) before I apply the first layer of hard wax (Extra Gloss Protection)?
  4. what is available now, am looking to take one soon. I heard most bank is offering 1.88% but some is offering 1.68%. Anyone know the conditions for the lower interest?. Thanks.
  5. I started a thread on the lifespan of a clutch pump in preparation for this thread. you can read up on that here -> Clutch pump - good for how many pumps? the main reason for asking the question on how many pumps a clutch pump is good for, because if you want to use the pulse and glide method, you will be engaging and releasing the clutch more often for a manual car. How does the pulse and glide method work? When i first got my car, the average FC is around 8.5-9KM/L after i read the above, i tried it on my ride. and i was really pleased with the results! I got an average of 10KM/L after trying the above method for one tank! I am still in the midst of perfecting the pulse and glide, but it works! and i must say, quite wonderfully too! imagine, i managed to squeeze a whole 15% more mileage out of my small tank! For those who are already pulsing and gliding, do share your experience. For those who are not, after reading this, are you going to try?
  6. Hi all, I'm wondering how most of you handle stress from work/family etc. I believe most of you will say once reach home see your kid, you'll be relieve of all stress. But some of us like myself dont have kids to help destress, so kindly please share different methods of how one can manage stress. Of course there are immediate stress relieve technic and there are those that require time to do so, like playing sports. For me, I enjoy playing badminton, cause can smack and release those things built up in me. But recently dont have time leh. Does squeezing a stress ball actually works?
  7. Recently my wife was approached closed door on the above slimming method. Touting using all natural ingredients, no-hunger, no-subsequent weight gain, blah blah blah, even its promotional brochure showed our MM Goh and Health minister and another VIP I forgot, that 'suggested' them to be among its clients. It is basically eating some supplements over 3 months to balance all the smoky technical jargons, and your body will be set good for life. The catch: S$2288! It claimed to have 10 years presence here though I have never ever heard about it before. What I do not like is that a preliminary check was executed with a OSIM weighing machine, then you will be bombarded you you are this age but your body is 10+ years older, and your body got so much fat above norm that it can be rid of by exercising, very much using scare tactic. And if you bring up cost, the response would be that isn't your health worth more than the this money blah blah blah? Like I am sinning by not buying this product, worse still, not getting for your loved ones. Very much playing on guilt conscience! Anyone has any experience on this?
  8. anyone knows of any workshops that bleed the brakes using vacuum method rather than pumping brakes method? the pricing?

  11. so do we still need to standby RM50??? No more hidden roadblocks and speed traps - Star-motoring SHAH ALAM: There will be no more hidden roadblocks and traps to book speeding motorists as police will now conduct such operations in the open. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar, who announced this on Saturday, said there would be no more “ambush” in such operations. He said signs would be placed ahead of speed traps and roadblocks to forewarn motorists. “We should not be hiding behind bushes or trees. We should come out in the open and enforce the law,” he said after attending a public dialogue session at the “A Day with the Police” event held at the Selangor police contingent headquarters. The newly-promoted deputy police chief said the move was also in line with making the force more transparent. “We should educate the public against committing traffic offences, not just give out summonses. “The first step towards that is to be more open and transparent,” he said. Khalid, however, explained this did not mean police were going to go easy on speed demons. “Just because you do not see us it does not mean you can speed and break traffic laws. “Other than speed traps which will be done in the open, we are looking at other ways to discourage traffic offences. “One is to have more cameras installed along roads,” he said. Former Transparency International Malaysia president Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam, in an immediate response, said he welcomed the move as it indicated that police wanted to be transparent. “This will increase public confidence in them. “Being transparent to prevent rather than to punish shows that the police are trying to be friends of the public,” he said. Bank staff Phua Eu Jin, 23, said conducting operations in the open to nab speeding drivers would be more effective. “The police have been conducting speed traps by placing cameras behind large pillars and hiding behind bushes. “This was not much of a deterrent as most motorists did not know they were caught speeding until summonses were mailed to their homes,” he said. Engineer Shawn Dass, 23, said speed traps to ambush motorists were not safe as accidents could happen. Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Tipper Lorry Owners Association president Lee Keen Seng welcomed the directive, saying the association had been appealing for such a change. “This is good for all drivers, not just lorry drivers, as visible policemen are a much more effective deterrent,” he said. Johor Lorry Operators Association deputy president V.K. Mani agreed, saying some of the “hidden” traps could also be unsanctioned by the police.
  12. As many already know, car sales people or executives at car showrooms will often treat showroom visitors according to a set of personal "scales" or "benchmarks" with which to decide whether they (visitors) are potential customers. - Sometimes it's your age: Too young = play play only. don't wanna waste my time - Dressed to shabbily: Too poor. Cannot afford the BMWs / Mercs / Porsches I'm selling (maybe less so for less prestigious marques) - Flashy car = big fish = must smile widely and entertain his/her every request Do we all agree with these, occasionally, unreliable "profiling" sales execs use in deciding whether to make an effort to assist customers? Personal experience, if I walk in (i look relatively young but am really not as young as I look), sometimes sales execs won't take even a second look at me. And sometimes it happens even when showrooms are relatively empty. But if i dress properly, they'll come in droves. Once at the Mini showroom (hunting for friend's car), they'll see me driving in and come drooling. Even to the extent of opening the glass door for my friend and I (cos the green house showroom gives people inside 100% visibility of cars coming in). Issit an Asian/Singaporean mentality? Cos I've been to foreign showrooms in more westernised countries, and have never gotten that kinda treatment even when we occasionally drove a rental. Not saying it's right or wrong. But I'm seeking personal accounts and/or maybe comments from fellow MCFers. Perhaps different experiences? Nice stories? Or horror stories? :)

  16. My method of lane changing, pls comment Ok after reading http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?showto...635942&st=0 , i have decided on this is how i am going to change lane in heavy , but not so slow traffic. I think the key is knowing how to play with my signal lights and not to confuse the other driver of my intention 1) initially, check for a gap using side mirror, NO SIGNAL 2) if got car quite far away at same speed relative to me.... SIGNAL if got car quite near at same speed relative to me....NO SIGNAL + me Slow down and let that car speed forward till he is in front if got no car, ..... SIGNAL If got car quite far away driving faster ... NO SIGNAL If got car quite near driving faster ... NO SIGNAL 3) for cases which I signal, i give 2 seconds for the car behind to take notice of me. 4) after 2 seconds i check the car behind on my side mirror again, if he speed up, I REMOVE SIGNAL and slow down and dont cut his lane if he maintain speed, i continue my signal signal and cut in, speed up and pay attention to the car in front, ensuring that i have enough gap if that car in front jam brake if he slow down, i continue my signal and cut in and speed up, and pay attention to the car in front , ensuring that i have enough gap if that car in front jam brake feel free to leave your comments, whether positive or negative. As long as we have something to learn from it

  18. Jailed for getting dog to bite maid Maid bitten on thigh and finger; housewife gets 20 months By Sujin Thomas APPEALING AGAINST THE SENTENCE: Housewife Tay Siew Hoon, 53, had ordered her shih-tzu to attack her Indonesian maid in September 2005. -- ST PHOTO: WONG KWAI CHOW RIGHT after housewife Tay Siew Hoon got her dog to bite her Indonesian maid's thigh and finger, she sat down to watch TV in the living room of her Changi home. The maid, now 24 and working elsewhere, ran into Tay's son's room where he and his father, Mr Kim Hua Siang, helped put a plaster on her wound. In court yesterday, Tay's lawyer A.P. Thirumurthy used what her husband and son did for the maid to plead for a lighter sentence. 'That itself shows they were concerned for the maid despite the dog bite,' he said. But Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Tse Haw pointed out that Tay, 53, was not the one who tended to the maid's injuries. 'The accused cannot take credit for the actions of her husband and son.' DPP Lim had earlier called Tay's actions 'one of the worst cases of maid abuse'. It is also the first time an employer has used an animal to abuse her maid. District Judge Wong Choon Ning sentenced Tay, a mother of three grown-up children, to a 20-month jail term. Mr Thirumurthy asked the court to impose a jail term of between three and nine months on his client, based on past maid-abuse cases involving employers using heated items like an iron or weapons such as a knife. But DPP Lim argued that a dog attack was worse as hot irons or knives were inanimate objects. 'The pain would be a fleeting moment at the point of contact or stabbing.' Mr Thirumurthy also tried using the size of Tay's dog as a mitigating factor. He said the dog, a shih-tzu, is a small breed which is not known to be ferocious, unlike an Alsatian 'which is known for tearing off chunks of flesh'. But DPP Lim said the dog bites left the maid with 11 bruises on her right thigh and marks on her left middle finger. 'Imagine the trauma and fear the victim must have been subjected to by the attack,' the prosecutor said. Tay's husband, 54, who works as a property agent and car dealer, told The Straits Times he felt the sentence was 'unfair'. 'My maid tells lies and I feel very sad this has happened,' Mr Kim said. Tay appealed immediately after sentencing and her husband posted bail of $25,000 for her release. 22. A sad and terribour story that just find out from newspaper.. Do we have anyway or method to protect us while in place like JB?? http://www.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...2987&sec=nation Another woman gang-raped JOHOR BARU: A group of men took a couple on a terror ride before raping the woman, the second such case in as many days here. A 55-year-old contractor and his 35-year-old female friend had stopped at a petrol station along the Pasir Gudang highway at 10.30pm last week. As he was filling up, three men armed with parang overpowered him and forced both victims into the car. The assailants took the victims on a one-hour terror ride before stopping at a secluded area along the highway. As in the case on Monday, the contractor was slashed in the leg when he tried to escape. With the injured victim watching helplessly, the men took turns to rape the woman before fleeing in another car driven by an accomplice. The victims lodged a police report after the incident. On Monday, a 19-year-old girl was raped by three men as her boyfriend watched helplessly in Taman Tampoi Indah. Their car was rammed into by another car. Three men in the car then abducted the couple. The boyfriend was also slashed in the leg when he tried to escape. In another incident, a doctor, in her 50s, fell and injured her head after two thieves on a motorcycle snatched her handbag while she was walking to her car in Taman Melody yesterday. Passers-by who saw the incident caught one of the suspects. He was handed over to the police.

  25. Yesterday I went for my regular oil change. Previously using Mobil Delvac MX 15W40, and yesterday switched to cxxxxxe 5W40. I still have remaining 1 liter of Delvac MX, so I asked the mechanic to pour it in to flush out the remaining oil after draining out the old oil..... To my surprise, even when the old oil had been completely drained out, there is still much dirty oil inside the engine. Approximately 80% of the new oil (remaining 1 liter Delvac MX) that went in comes out as dirty looking as the old oil. It is only after the rest of the dirty looking oil had flow out, then the colour gets lighter looking. Having witnessed that, I wonder if the usual drain and refill method during oil change will be sufficient? Perhaps it will be good to occasionally use some fresh oil to flush out the remaining oil inside the engine during oil change? Any thoughts on this?
