  1. Enjoy reading- A GROUP of intrepid Singapore motorists are showing that you do not need airplanes to travel the world - just four wheels, a gung-ho spirit and cruise control. Singapore permanent resident Daniel Ma from Malaysia and his wife, Singaporean Hew Shiau Wei, drove from India to South Africa in their off-peak Singapore-registered Hyundai Matrix car, a journey that took more than nine months. That was a mere jaunt in the big scheme of things, though. The adventurous pair, both 29, started in August last year and recently completed an extreme road trip which covered 43,500km and 24 countries. Their India to South Africa trip was just one leg of it. During their odyssey, they encounted huge potholes in India and swindlers in Egypt, and drove alongside grazing giraffes on desert roads in Kenya. The car-crazy couple are among an increasing number of Singaporeans and residents here taking the road less travelled - well, for a driving holiday at least. The Automobile Association (AA) of Singapore, which organised a 23-day road trip from Singapore to Lijiang in China last September, said it is experiencing a jump in the popularity of road trips among their members. The motoring association regularly organises road holidays to Malaysia, with more than 400 of its members taking part last year. Its spokesman said: 'Driving holidays have become more popular as members have become more adventurous and road savvy and do not want to be constrained by a fixed itinerary.' She added that these people 'prefer to have more control over time' and 'enjoy sights and places of interest that are not ordinarily covered in normal itineraries'. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Drivers/St...607-220711.html
  2. Matrix's AirCon control is always by default return to fresh air mode after you turned off your engine.. find that's it hell of inconvenient.. this DIY mod will be able to set the default to always closed at recycle mode. There is 2 step to be done, 1st is the air con control unit, 2nd is to reverse polarity of the aircon flap above the air con blower/filter. You'll need to remove the centre console 1st, refer to here for Removing Hyundai Matrix Centre Console http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/Asian_Make...cs%29_P2324088/ Here goes Part 1:- Insert the scrapper and pry open the plastic casing, pulling off the speed knob 1st will make it eassier to pry open Air Con main control unit Right Side Recycle Button with stock green LED Left side Air Con Button with stock green LED Desolder both LEDs from the back and pull out The LEDs including the plastic holder Stock Green LEDs with the plastic holder Prepare 820 ohm resistors and LEDs After removing the LEDs look for the 3 small holes on the recycle button (right side) Close up Insert a New LED with the positive (+ve) leg into the right hole (previously occupied by the stock negative(-ve) LED), and the -ve leg of the new LED into the the small centre hole below it. Pictures here show the new LEDs in place, leave the original +ve hole empty for the time being, you may wish to remain stock green LED, just follow the above step with the original LED instead of a new one.. Turn over the pcb board and solder the +ve, next solder the -ve leg to the ground on the pcb board. cut the resistor to shorter length insert the resistor to the empty +ve hole and solder next, solder the other end of the resistor to the +ve led of the new LED Next, insert a new LED into the left side of the pcb board of the air con control unit with the original polarity and solder it, cut away excess length after soldering If you wish to remain stock green LEDs, the above step no need to do... Whola you're done...happy DIYings... *disclaimer: this mod is for sharing, in no way will the poster be responsible for any mishap or damage done... :naughty: surface mount LEDs on my air con control... surface mount LEDs are damn small not easy to solder.. however it offers a consitant shade of White color... completed LED mod on my Air Con Control

  4. Start by removing the Centre Console, refer to - Removing Matrix's Centre Console http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/Asian_Make...ics%29_P2324088 Tools required is a Phillips Screw Driver and a piece of cloth, After having removed the centre console, take a piece of cloth and insert below the Cluster Panel as shown, push the ODO Switch upwards to remove, you'll need to push hard initially cos it quite tight if you are removing it for the 1st time Bottom view of the ODO switch After pushing out the ODO switch, remove the connector Next remove the Phillips screw, do not remove all the way, leave a little and use your fingers to turn the remaining few turns, be careful not to drop the screw, i dropped mine and is forever lost somewhere in the cabin, Next use both hands and hold the cluster and pull it off, (picture show left hand cos right hand holding camera to take picture) Picture of the cluster removed Next remove the 2 Phillips screw on the right side of the panel Remove the 3rd screw on the left Next turn the instrument panel over and remove the connector switch Picture of cluster and instrument panel completely removed Back view of instrument panel (pre-FL version using 3xT10 and 4xT5 bulbs, FL version is using 8xT5 bulbs) Bottom view of instrument cluster Bottom view of ODO switch, arrows show the 3 screws, which you may want to remove to turn/invert the metal spring, for easy future removal of the cluster panel without having to remove the centre console. Installation is the reverse of the above steps.... Happy DIYing...

  7. The ix25 (photos) is a sub-compact crossover built upon a variation of the i20's supermini platform. It will be sold exclusively in China. However, the global compact crossover boom means Hyundai could well build the car in international plants for worldwide consumption. If sold locally, the ix25 would be similar in most ways to the Matrix, Hyundai's popular small MPV that sold well during the noughties as it found favor with Singaporean families looking for an "affordable" and versatile runabout. The ix25 debuts this month in Beijing.

  16. Date - 13 Aug 2011 Time - 1625h Place- Woodland causeway checkpoint Traffic flow- Heavy Matrix constantly keeps a very close distance to the front car (Honda City) even when stopping. Perhaps he did not want to give way to exiting vehicles cleared from checkpoint counter. Honda city notices the close-up of Matrix. As traffic is heavy, he come out of the car and give Matrix driver a friendly advice not to stay so close to him as the traffic flow is heavy and few merging and narrow lanes in the checkpoint. Matrix takes the advice, immediate reverse 1 footstep from City. Guess what? It takes the next 10 minutes for this 2 cars to reach the entrance of causeway bridge due to heavy traffic. When they jus approached the bridge, BANG . ..... Matrix hit rear city.... City: Hey! Didnt i told you 10 minutes ago not to stay so close to me???? Jus sharing what i saw and heard....

  21. my Wife Hyundai matrix has serve us very well all these years. I seldom drive it cause my work require plenty of driving and matrix FC is horrible. I notice that the car act very weird recently when I travel North using the Matrix instead of my own Vios. The car is no longer responsive and its struggling when i cruise on NSHW at 120km/h... the "struggling" is similiar to driving at 50km/hr using 5th gear when driving a manual transmission car. Its at 130K+ now and I have perform oil change using branded fully syn oil (Amsoil, M1, Castrol Edge, redline & etc) every 9K+... As for the AFT, i change it every 30K using Hyundai original SP3 ATF. Sparkplug was gapped and cleaned every 20K, Air Filter using original and replaced every 20K, What could be the problem? any advise? I suspect its the fuel filter cause thats the only thing I have never replace but is my problem sounds to caused by a clogged fuel filter? btw, the Matrix is 100% stock....

If ECU fails, car cant totally cranked right? Now, he needs to know if you guys can help & share which workshop specialises for Matrix..and to see if indeed it's the ECU tat had died or possibly just some faulty wirings/harness. He's willing to tow it over, since the current workshop doesnt seem to knw much and yet wants to charge $1.5k-$1.7k! Really appreciate all ur kind opinions and feedbacks, and help.. Thanks guys!
