CNA reported : Scoot makes maiden flight to Sydney By Hetty Musfirah | Posted: 04 June 2012 1836 hrs SINGAPORE: Singapore's first long haul budget carrier Scoot will finally take to the skies with its inaugural flight to Sydney on Monday night. The flight is scheduled to depart from Singapore Changi Airport at 11.25pm and will arrive in Sydney at 9.20 on Tuesday morning. And it will be a full flight, with about 400 passengers onboard. The first flight comes after months of preparation, which saw the aircraft-bought from Singapore Airlines, being refitted. This meant doing away with more than two tonnes of entertainment equipment to make way for iPads. Doing so, means a lighter plane where less fuel is used. Scoot said this has been one way it's been able to save costs in view of higher fuel prices. - CNA/ck ST report : Low-cost carrier Scoot's maiden flight delayed Low-cost carrier Scoot's maiden flight to Sydney on Monday was delayed for more than an hour due to a technical fault. The Boeing 777-200 jet, with a full load of about 400 passengers, remained grounded at press-time on Monday night, as engineers tried to get it fit for take-off. The flight with paying passengers, guests and members of the media left Changi Airport Terminal 2 at 11.45pm - 20 minutes later than scheduled. But it turned back on the runway and returned to the boarding area at 12.20am. CNA & ST, different reports ... If SIA can't tidy up TigerAir, I am not taking Scoot. Already maiden flight facing problem, how to trust future destinations will not face delaying problem.... Take off at 11.45pm and returned to runway at 12.05am, after 20 minutes in the air....

STOMPer Nathaniel spotted this NSman carrying both his own backpack and his girlfriend's handbag at Nex mall. Does this make him more of a man, the STOMPer asks. The STOMPer feels that it is unbecoming of a soldier in uniform to be carrying his girlfriend's bag, especially when the girlfriend does not need the help. The STOMPer wrote: "We went to Nex to have dinner. While walking down an escalator, we saw a strange sight. "We saw this serviceman carrying his girlfriend's handbag. "This was hilarious as we would have been making fun of a normal guy carrying his girlfriend's handbag. But a serviceman in his uniform? This was something interesting. "A question popped readily into my mind: Does this make him more of a man? "There has been a round of debate about another case involving a maid carrying a serviceman's bag. "This case raises questions about dignity and pride. "I would say that a man who carries his girlfriend's handbag is already a laughable matter as he has just lost all his dignity by allowing himself to consent to the girlfriend's whims and fancies. "However, by carrying her bag in uniform, not only did he lose his own dignity, I feel that he has lost the dignity of his nation as well. "His girlfriend is not disabled, nor was she shopping in a store or busy. "There is no excuse for him carrying her bag. "Some would argue about his "love" for the girl. Come on, there are other ways to show your love. "Carrying a handbag while in uniform is definitely not one of the ways. "We need to educate the youth of our nation to judge for themselves in situations like this and to uphold the high regard we have for our soldiers, or risk becoming the laughing stock of other nations."

Nico Rosberg will soon notch up the first victory of his formula one career, team boss Ross Brawn predicts. The 24-year-old German finished on the podium just twice during his four-year tenure with Williams, but within four races has already finished in the top-3 twice at the wheel of a Mercedes. "Nico is very close to winning a race," Brawn told the Daily Star newspaper. "Things just need to fall into place -- but that will come. I am sure he'll do it. Definitely," he added. Rosberg, whose Finnish father Keke won the world championship in 1982, finished third in both Malaysia and China, while his famous teammate Michael Schumacher's last two finishes have been in tenth place. "Nico has raised his game," said former triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart, who while a sponsor representative at Williams worked close up with Rosberg. "The boy has extraordinary skills. I think Michael has been taken aback by that. It must be affecting him," added the Scot. Rosberg's former boss Sir Frank Williams told the Daily Mail: "Nico is a very self-confident young man with a reasonable amount of justification for being so. "He won't be overawed in Michael's presence." But a report in the Telegraph newspaper expressed concern that Mercedes' decision to alter the wheelbase length of the W01 car could affect Rosberg's momentum. "Instead of helping Schumacher get back up to speed, could it just upset Rosberg, costing him the chance to compete for the world title?" wondered writer Tom Cary. Source: GMM
