  1. Hi, I just got my driving license last month and would like to purchase a used car for both family purpose and also gain some practical skills. I stay with wife, a one-year old baby and parents. Hence I believe a big car is necessary but not MPV as it is to big for newbie. As the family is big, I think a 2.0L is a must, thus I have shortlisted Kia Magentis, Hyundai Sonata, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Nissan Cefiro, Mazda 6 and Subaru Legcy. Prefer to buy a car registered in 2016 or 2017 because eventually I may have to buy a MPV when second baby comes. Please share your opinion on these cars: i.e interior space (2 adults and a safety seat in rear row), FC, reliability and cost. Thank You!
  2. Is anyone here driving the Kia Magentis? Like to hear the comments about this car. Tks.
  3. Any bro knows where to get a good brake kit for this car ? :)
  4. Given that both are pretty well equip and the price for both are very near. Which will be a better choice to choose from? and Why?
  5. Traveling in front of IR on Lane 1 Towards AYE wth a Vios a safe following distance in front at about 76. You were on Lane 2 with a trailer blocking Lane 2 and 3. SUDDENLY you swerve right into my path at point blank, causing me to brake almost to 0. NOT even a distance away. I horned you and turn on my headlights and kept flashing you, even the vios quickly signal left and out. AFTER that you ran away at over 140 km/h in order to escape me and be a crazy idiot at that. You car was going at kamikaze speed. AS fortune will have it, there was heavy traffic in front causing you to brake, letting me close the distance and take a picture of your car ! And then when you saw my camera taking pictures of your car, you SWERVE 3 lanes to the left, nearly hitting a blue vios, and not signalling at that, to ESCAPE me! Why dont you man up and apologise why did you have to speed up and run away?
  6. As above, my fren is interested in buying kia magentis 2009 model. any bro out there thinking of selling? car dealers are also welcome...
  7. But C&C missed out this one: KIA Cee'd How come? I don't mind to be a kiasi lang leh. [:p]
  8. Hi All Check it out: http://www.icars.sg/2010/12427/kia-to-reve...is-in-new-york/ According to the report, will be available in non-european mkts (dat includes us?) by fall this year, i.e. 4th quarter! Will definitely fuel the rise of Korean brands.....
  9. This is a follow up post to my earlier post on the 2011 Kia Optima (Magentis). These photos are live images taken from the New York Auto Show. As the saying goes, a picture speaks a thousand words and the world can finally see the all new Optima in its full glory. These live images confirm my initial impression that the new optima scores better in the looks department as compared to its cousin, the Hyundai Sonata. The alloy wheel design resembles those from a certain European make. The bumper is joined to the car body at a 45 degree (around there I suppose) angle and I like that treatment as it gives the car a coupe-like touch. The display car at the new york auto show seems to be fitted with red coloured brake caliper. I am doubtful that it will be a standard feature throughout the new Optima range, perhaps only reserved for top end high performance variant. Under the hood, we find three all-new and fuel-efficient Theta II powerplants: a 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder, a 2.0-liter GDI turbo engine or a 2.4-liter hybrid. The 2.4-liter GDI engine delivers 200 hp while the 2.0-liter turbo GDI engine delivers an impressive 274 hp. The 2.4-liter hybrid engine will be introduced in 2011. Will the new Optima enjoy the success of its smaller sibling, the Cerato Forte, in Singapore ? I believe it can, given the smart marketing strategy by C&C.
  10. Official shots are revealed!
  11. They just keep getting better. These are the first official images of what the new Kia Magentis will look like and who is to say that it can be anything close to being ugly? These official images will be showcased at this year's New York Motor Show in April and will be released in American and Korean showrooms to consumers later in the year. No news yet about its arrival here in Singapore but that's always the case with new cars. We just cannot deny the fact that we are still too tiny and insignificant to the world. And that's a pity because I'm sure many potential car buyers, in this segment especially, will be looking forward to this particular model which sits in the large family saloon category, and more often than not for most Kias these days, they are affordable and value for money. Chief designer Peter Schreyer has not missed a beat with Kia's designs and this is no exception. The new Magentis is said to be longer, wider and lower than the outgoing model, and it also features a longer wheelbase. As for the engine, details are still under wraps but sources say that there will be a 2.0 litre petrol and diesel unit which will be the main powerplant for the Magentis with a chance of smaller capacity engines if there is sufficient demand. This will definitely be a car to look out for in the next 2 years or so as its release in Europe is scheduled to be in 2011. So maybe we'll hear from Kia then..
  12. 2 encounters on Kia Magentis Taxi over weekend. Friday night boarded one such cab. The cabby was like a F1 driver, he kept shifting gears, dashing fwd, braking excessively over short travel (got cars in front). At traffic light, he shift gear again, move off shift gear again. I look over, eh ? auto gear leh .. he shift what ah? the whole short journey is jerky at times, speedy mostly ... Sunday evening (730pm) along Bras Basah road towards suntec, 2nd left lane no car, I was abt to filter from left into it, then realised a kia Magentis cab without headlamp on sped up and cut me very closely. then at suntec junction (where the left goes to nichol hwy), it cut to the right lane (3rd lane). as we progress it was blocked by cars in front. I 2nd left lane I was turning left to suntec, he could have filter left behind me, but he decided to continue and wanna cut in front of me. As a bus was at left lane, I turned slowly, it was trying hard to squeezed in, again very close. So I highbeam him once. when he eventually managed to turn left ... he sped off very fast again. Conclusion - Kia Magentis very good speeding car ? and/or Kia Cabbies are F1 trained/inspired ? Just to share ... anyone can relate the Hydnai Sonata cabs?

  14. How come the launch so lacklustre as compared to forte? i saw the newspaper advert today and feel its rather sophisticated. However, since its on current existing magentis taxi platform, i'm sure it'll look small as compared to camry etc
  15. Not a big Korean car fan, but I saw the supposedly new Magentis parked at C&C's 2nd level, sporting the now famous Schreyer grille, the same one found on the Forte... is this all new or just a Facelift? The front lamps remind me of the JDM camry though...

  17. Hello everyone. 1. Current generation Kia Magentis engine = Previous generation Kia Magentis engine? Previous generation model refers to the one with the older body type. Went to Kia Singapore website, but no information on engine codes. 2. Current generation 2.0L engines: Kia - Magentis, Carens, Sportage Hyundai - Sonata, Trajet FL, Tucson Are they all using the SAME engine? Thanks!
  18. Photos taken from Kia-World.net - Redesigned exterior and interior establishes Kia's distinctive, aggressive new look - New engine packs powerful punch without sacrificing fuel economy (SEOUL) March 21, 2008 - Kia Motors Corporation today unveiled the 2009 Optima midsize sedan (also known as 'Magentis' in some markets) at the New York International Auto Show. On sale in early fall, the refreshed Optima offers a completely modified exterior, which offers a more aggressive, dynamic style than previous models, and is outfitted with a new engine that provides more power and better fuel economy. For 2009, Optima also is larger than its predecessors, which complements its distinctive new styling and separates itself from other vehicles in the growing midsize segment. "Optima is in a strong position to change the way consumers think about midsize sedan offerings," said Tom Loveless, vice president, sales of Kia Motors America. "Already known for its exemplary quality, safety and value, Optima's sleek new redesign provides consumers with a sporty, fuel-efficient choice and showcases Kia's commitment to providing the best all-around vehicle package." Exterior excitement The 2009 Optima is presented with new front, side and rear styling cues, which build upon Kia's philosophy of creating dynamic vehicles that evoke passion. The fog lamps and lower front grille have been enlarged and the headlamps narrowed to create an aggressively sharper look. Wider side garnishes add sportiness while the acute front lines continue toward the back, ending on a distinctly edged trunk lid. To complete the redesigned rear fascia, taillights are narrowed to enhance Optima's sleeker cosmetic appearance. Also, new for 2009 is the addition of the sporty SX trim, which complements the handsomely-equipped, value-priced LX and luxury-oriented EX trims. Already available with Kia's Rio, Rio5 (5-door), Spectra and Spectra5 (5-door) models, the SX line provides another dimension for Optima buyers looking for a sportier midsize. Along with a sport-tuned suspension, SX upgrades include: a black-bezeled front grille and headlamps, LED outside-mirror turning signals, fog lights and hyper-silver-finished 17-inch wheels. EX and LX V6 models are equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, and are fitted with Goodyear tires.
  19. Hi everyone, Does anyone here know if the Mercedes, Sonata & Magentis taxis run on petrol or diesel? I see them "burning up the roads" during my late night rides back home, machiam true blue muscle cars! But there are many friends I know who believe they are diesel-powered hence not as powerful as their petrol counterparts? If they are indeed diesel-powered, wouldn't the engine be totally different and the cars should not be labeled per their petrol-model? I'm just being curious. Thnks for reading.
  20. Sat in a Kia Magentis taxi for the 1st time last week, and I must say that it is remarkably quiet for a 2l turbo charged diesel. Much quietier than the Mercdedes E200 diesel taxi, but the Skoda Superb still wins both hands down in terms of cabin luxury, quietness and overall refinement. I could not feel the OOMPH & pull when the driver accelerated hard, unlike the Superb. The mileage of this 5 mth old taxi was 57,000km. The driver told me that he is still using the stock tyres and just few weeks bk, he hit a kerb, the tyre burst and the taxi company replaced just a front tyre for him (different brand from orig tyre). They wanted him to pay for it but he said the tyre is already fast wearing out. Hence, do be wary of taxis, as these taxi co.s do not change tyres in pairs and the drivers usually use them till they are beyond the legal wear limit, hence minimal grip, and this puts the life of passengers at risk too.
  21. These Koreans are really relentless.... http://thecarblogger.blogspot.com/2007/04/...ntisoptima.html
  22. Heard from some posts here that Kia Magentis will become another model for taxi and not sure if it is true? Can someone verify this news & has anyone seen it till now? I think we are starting to look like Taiwan for our taxi industry and this is good. Look at our police vehicles too & they are getting cool & of cos Hotter! Cheers...
  23. Hi all, The new Kia Magentis 2.0 has been around for like 6 months now...would like comments on how it compares against the Hyundai Sonata 2.0 as the Magentis price now seems very attractive. Is the Sonata worth the 8k premium over the Magentis? Thanks
  24. Hi everyone, After getting my new ride for 2 months, seemed like no where to find any accessories for this particular make and model. Even after checking with C&C, all they had was a catalogue to look at... so pathetic. Help, anyone?
