  1. Hi all Alfisti, Just to share. If you guys have a loose steering feel, ie. the wheel seems to wander on uneven road and you hear knocks when roads are uneven, you may have a worn tie rod. To confirm this, raise your car, with both hands at 3 and 9 oclock position, rock the front wheel (left or right). if you there is freeplay, chances are your tie rods are worn. To double confirm, remove the rubber boot of the inner tie rod to see the inside when you move the wheel laterally. (inner tie rods fails more often than outer one) The problem with alfa is that they claim that they do not sell the tie rods separately and you have to get a whole steering rack to replace it. so you can either buy from ebay (which i bought and replaced before, but they do not last, it was worn in less than a year (it could be due to some potholes on the road that i encountered that cause the premature failure). Or, get a used rack from scrapyard (like propel) to salvage the tie rods, which i also did on the recently tie rod change. Please do not spent thousands of dollars on a new steering rack when you can fix this problem at a much lower cost. Rdgs
  2. Hihi, see these 6-edge star screws in the attached pic, it's at the B-Pillar to hold the mechanism for the lock on the car door to latch. It's now loose, any ideas where to get such screw drivers? Or if most workshops will have the screws to help screw back?
  3. Anyone had this problem before? It cause the lid to be able to open but not close unless I pull the lever and have someone push the lid close before I release it to lock it. This is due to the stopper being too far out. If possible I do not want to return to agent as it is very far from my place. And no, not any workshop can do the job. I've visited 3 workshops today, all told me they don't repair that (or maybe they just don't know how to). Anyone experience this and got it fixed by third party workshop?
  4. Please beware of this mad dog driving gold toyota vios. Purposely cut into my lane sharply and keep tapping brake after that for no reason. I did not provoke him at all, just came out of no where. Please be cautious of this dog along PIE Jurong Town Hall. View My Video
  5. STOMPer Dave says these men lost their tempers at a petrol kiosk, hurling expletives at each other for half an hour. According to the STOMPer the man in white even swore at a bystander who shouted 'police' to stop them. The STOMPer related the incident: "This quarrel broke out at Upper Aljunied's Esso petrol kiosk! "This scenario happened at 2pm, and ended up lasting half an hour! "The argument was about payment of some kind. I'm not sure what as it was all in Hokkien. "All sorts of explicit vulgarities were thrown at each other, and the uncle in the striped tees even showed the young man a vulgar hand sign. "When someone shouted 'police', the guy in white shouted 'so what?' and used hokkien vulgarties at the kind citizen! "Half an hour later, they went back into the petrol kiosk." This man, recently spotted arguing at a petrol kiosk, was seen involved in another public incident -- this time threatening a woman. He had even aimed a kick at the woman at one point to intimidate her. Just five days ago, STOMPer Dave had spotted him arguing publicly at an Esso petrol kiosk in Upper Aljunied. According to the STOMPer, the disagreement then had been over money. STOMPer J wrote: "This happened at Mountbatten Square, where a lot of childcare centres are located. "This man was shouting vulgarities in Hokkien, and was threatening a woman in the carpark there."
  6. ST Forum Tight budgets and loose change I TAKE taxis only in an emergency ('Spare a thought: Remember that cabbies do not enjoy medical benefits nor the luxury of paid leave' by Madam Geraldine Khong; last Thursday). Like cabbies, I too do not receive a 13th month wage supplement, so every cent counts. Passengers should pay the fare indicated on the meter and it is not right for cabbies to collect an extra five cents. Koh Lee Suan (Ms)

  8. Pyschopath on the loose? Folks staying in Yishun, watchout. Suay for these owners.... http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg..._in_yishun.html Serial Vandal Loose in Yishun: 10th Car Smashed The windscreen of STOMPer Clare's car was smashed on Sunday (Mar 13), making it the tenth car in the Yishun Street 22 carpark to be vandalised, the STOMPer claims. The STOMPer reported: "My car got smashed on the windscreen twice yesterday (Mar 13) when it was parked at an open air carpark at Yishun Street 22. "Apparently this is not the first case of vandalism at this carpark. "My car is the tenth car we know of that got smashed by this vandal in the past few months and the culprit has not been caught yet. "My family and I personally witnessed four cases of vandalism over the past few months. "Just a block away, three cars were smashed on the windscreen in one night, some time last year in Jan/Feb. "This was confirmed by the shop owners near the carpark. "We were also told by the police officers there were around 10 cases of vandalism reported at that carpark. "I would like to appeal to the other victims to sign a petition for the MP to arrange for more patrols in the area, or for a CCTV to be installed in this neighbourhood."
  9. No prizes for guessing the gender behind the wheels. I had to brake twice. The 2nd time, e braked to a complete halt to avoid a collision. A pity my date time stamp got screwed. Wondering if it is still ok to submit to OC Violations TP? Video
  10. http://www.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/...306-126498.html Jamie and Glenn have new squeezes Three weeks ago on Feb 13, Class95 DJ Glenn Ong shocked listeners by announcing on his morning show that he had separated from Jamie Yeo, his wife of five years. Three weeks down the road, The New Paper reported today that both celebs have moved on and are dating other people. Thirty-one-year-old Jamie Yeo was spotted holding hands at an Adidas Originals house party with Mr Thorsten Nolte, 34. The Englishman is chief executive officer of Deploy Digital, a local digital communications company. Meanwhile, Glenn Ong, 38, told The New Paper that he is seeing fellow DJ Jean Danker and they are "dating exclusively". Jean, 31, is the host of Class95's evening show Cartunes. Both Jamie and Glenn say that they have been dating their new partners for three weeks now. Coincidence? Perfect timing?

  12. While driving today my car suddenly loses power steering and within moments both the battery low and high temperature indicators lit-up. Fortunately I was only a few KM from home and managed to drive the car back without any further incident. After close examination, I found that the belt that connects the car's alternator and a few other parts of the engine has came off. One of the pulleys appeared loose, i.e, marginally angled when rotated. I also found a huge nut (slightly larger than size of 20 cents) at a bottom corner on the chassis which fits nicely to secure that loose pulley. My Picnic is already out of warranty, and the last servicing was in Oct last year was with Comfort Delgro where a "fan belt" was replaced. Bros, any suggestion where I can get this fixed at a low cost? I don't intend to spend much as the car will be de-registered in less than a couple of months time. Thanks!
  13. I just have my tyres swop at a tyre shop near AMK area. Within a week, when i inspect the wheels, I discovered that the 4 nuts on my front left wheel came loose. I can even unscrew them using bare hands. Luckily the wheel did not come off while driving, otherwise the car sure go out of control. I am wondering if the screw nuts will loosen over time? or is it a bad job done by the tyre shop?

  17. Hi Fellow Swifties, My swift back doors have loosened. i.e. it cannot stay in place where the doors are opened and tends to close back. Quite frustrating especially if you need to take out stuff. I also saw one old swift before with this problem. My mech says it's due to the door hinges or something. Or maybe our doors are not heavy enough for older cars.. Can anyone provide some advise on this? Thanks...

  19. round corrugated plastic bushing located within the insides of the steering shaft! My car steering started feeling unusually loose after last weekend ride to M'sia. In the first half hour of inspection at the workshop, nothing at the steering linkages or rack turned up suspicious. I told them how I strongly suspected a problem at the shaft area...you know it because of the feeling you get when you start making turns and such. The steering wheel was removed, the column dismantled and shaft stripped to its barest. There inside lay a cone like plastic bushing with a small round corrugated plastic bushing inside. The latter, used to provide a firm support between the two connecting shaft rods, had broken into pieces. Looked like wear and tear to me. We knew quite instantly the chances of getting such an minute alien part would be remote. The problem was solved by stuffing 4 rubber O-rings to act as the support. The steering is now back at its original firmness, with very little clunking when going over rough roads. Hope this improvisation can last. Thought I'd share this experience as another possible cause of slippery and loose steering!
  20. Hi folks, Discovered this forum and hopefully someone can help. My car has been experiencing a loose steering in the last month. Making a turn doesn't see the steering returning to it's original position. Notice too i can turn the wheel like 30 degrees on a while travelling straight without any travel deviation. I've had it checked by several mechanics and there appears nothing wrong with the following: 1) Wheel Alignment 2) Wheel Balance 3) Steering Rack 4) Tie rods, shafts and steering wheel couplers. 5) Tyres pressure 6) Suspension joints. What else could be wrong? Pt. 6 wasn't really checked in detail as I witness, only the top joints were fiddled with sort of. How should the front suspension ball joints be checked?
  21. Tell me very honestly. Are your korean made vehicles built to last?
