Hi, I have seen lots of black Vellfire installed Blue LEDs light on the side step ( hope I remembered correctly), it improves the visibility especially at night. Anyone can share where can I enquire on this? Someone mentioned there is a shop in Hougang North specialized in this, but I can find it when I googled. Thanks in advance.

Our in-house writers Regan and Nicholas go head to head in this month's battle: Who will take over the world - LED or halogen? LEDing the way - Regan says, "LED FTW (For the win)!" It's pretty obvious that Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are the latest and most exciting technological advancement in the lighting industry. Let's start with daytime running lights. Just like how eyeliner emphasises an eye, a strip of light can be designed to underscore a vehicle's character. In that sense, this relates highly to Audi cars and their signature LED daytime running lights. Automakers favour LEDs because they are durable, compact and energy efficient. LED light sources can last much longer than halogens and typically last the life of a vehicle, which can be seen as an added value to consumers. Even the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will become the first vehicle in the world that will not use a single light bulb. Instead, the tri-star flagship sedan will be fitted with almost 500 LEDs filling all lighting, signalling, and interior illumination roles. Regan's take on this? LEDs will certainly have a bright future. Even the light in his room is LED. Nicholas reckons that LED will never be the star of the prom without the plain Jane Halogen Nicholas isn't just about to bring in the saying that 'old is gold' because, certainly, halogen being the elder and more outdated tech of the duo isn't all shimmery yellow. That said, he's certainly not for LED taking over the world. Carmakers are well aware of that fact, too. And they shrewdly crafted the product hierarchy, where base variants usually make do with halogen headlamps, while their sportier and more premium cousins come with LED ones. It is almost a symbolism of status. This means while the S-Class will sparkle with LED headlamps, the A-Class will continue to emit its glow from halogens. Yes, Nicholas concurs that LED is better than halogen in more ways than one. But that alone will not kill off the latter. Simply put, automakers recognise the need to differentiate their products, and lighting technologies is one of the ways to do it.

Honda's premium arm - Acura presented its 2014 Acura MDX Prototype at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), offering a first glimpse of the styling direction for the third SUV which seats seven passengers to be launched by mid-2013 in either an all-wheel or front-wheel drive layouts. "Our goal is to advance on MDX's already great dynamic performance while improving fuel economy and luxury comfort. Building on the great momentum we established in 2012 with the launch this year of our flagship RLX, followed later this year by a terrific new luxury SUV in MDX we are very excited about the direction of the Acura brand. And we are truly looking forward to a great 2013," said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations. Let's be honest its looks like a typical Honda with the corporate face of an Acura - so no surprises on the styling front though the eye-blinding Acura Jewel Eye LED lights adds a nice touch. The 2014 MDX Prototype is 38mm lower than the preceding model outgoing model but features a longer wheelbase for an enhanced ride quality, an increase in legroom in the second row - which in turn improves accessibility to the third row. In a bid to pacify the strong demand for the MDX, Acura will offer a front-wheel driven variant for 'warm weather markets' (UAE) on top of an all-wheel drive. Powering the MDX is an all new, 3.5-litre V6 engine and will be produced in Lincoln, Alabama. Using domestic and globally sourced parts, the MDX is built exclusively in North America.

Audi started on of the biggest motoring trends to date, and if you're still wondering what that is, I suggest you go out on the road one of these days and see how many cars you can spot with "DRLs" or 'Day-time Runnning Lights'. Workshops around Singapore have been selling these aftermarket LEDs to customers who don't have an Audi, but want to add a little 'Audi-ness' to their own ride with these lights. There are two different camps with different opinions regarding this particular accessory; some say its irritating, distracting and downright ugly to add LEDs to a car which doens't come with them. The others say its all part of nurturing creativity and the fun of customising their own car to suit their personality. Well, I tend to steer closer to the first school of thought, which is, it can be rather irritating at times. Have you seen the glare from some of these lights? Especially when its placed on the rear number plate of some cars. I have no issues with it being located on the front end where its supposed to be, but after some deep thought and customisation ideas, the LEDs have moved to the side skirts and now the rear number plates. These are some photos from Stomp showing how glaring the LEDs can be on the rear, and I wonder why they're used in the first place when its supposed to be used during the day as its original name and purpose suggests! Even some motorcycles have joined the customisation bandwagon with this accessory and it makes them look like mosquitos with lights on them on the road at night. Placing such lights on the rear is as distracting and irritating as people who turn on their fog lamps when Singapore hardly ever experiences a misty or foggy day.. DRLs on the front is cool and I think what Audi has started is brilliant because most premium car manufacturers have started installing them to their cars, but then again, Volkswagen owns most of the German dealers so I guess the dissemination of the idea was inevitable but then again, those are tastefully done and for the main purpose of safety. Making a car or motorcycle look like a Christmas tree isn't cool and isn't safe at all. Period.
