  1. TL;DR – A Honda Fit cuts into the path of a cam car in an extremely reckless manner, nearly causing an accident. Caption from the video post on Roads.sg Facebook page. Watch the 10-second video below to find out what it means. What happened The incident occurred along Bukit Panjang Ring Road at about 6.45pm on 7th of December 2022. A blue/purple Honda Fit filters onto the main road and immediately changes lane recklessly. This abrupt lane change causes cam car to jam the brakes and depress the horn. It’s a short one today but let this serve as a public service announcement of sorts. Moral of the story There will always be idiots on the roads like this. It doesn’t mean that nothing will happen to you even if you have the right of way. Keep that in mind folks. Online Chatter As always, let’s see what people have to say. True stories. It refers to the Honda Fit. Just in case anyone’s wondering. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  2. Changing lanes can be a risky manoeuvre, especially with oncoming traffic behind you - That is why: (1) Our vehicles come with side mirrors; and (2) We must check our blind spots before performing a lane change. However, a BMW 520i driver does the unthinkable despite oncoming traffic approaching from behind: What Happened? After exiting the infamous Newton Circus Roundabout, a BMW 520i found himself stuck behind a Mercedes-Benz B-Class in a "go straight or right turn" lane. At that point, the traffic light signal for going straight was green, while the right turn arrow was red. After realising that the Mercedes-Benz intended to turn right (Yes, the Mercedes-Benz did not signal his intention), the BMW driver decided to perform an abrupt lane change to a "go straight only" lane. The BMW driver immediately changed his lane after signalling, cutting off the cam bike approaching him...RIGHT IN FRONT of a Traffic Police (TP) officer. After witnessing the BMW's reckless act, the TP officer did not hesitate to pull him over. It remains unclear whether the TP took enforcement actions against the BMW driver or if the BMW driver was let off with a stern warning. A Sight To See NGL, it is quite comforting to know that there are TPs on our road to ensure that actions are taken against errant motorists. Kudos to the TP officer in the video for his swiftness and for upholding road safety for us all! Netizens' Comments Use signal but never check mirrors or blind spot = Still a d0uche driver. This netizen finally got it off his chest! I hope he realised it and picked it up before leaving the scene... ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 3. TLDR; Nissan driver engages in reckless lane change that could have led to a severe collision. Watch the video for yourself below Black Nissan NV350 was caught on camera recklessly lane changing at Exit 15 to Yio Chu Kang Road on CTE towards SLE, cutting it extremely close to the camcar and potentially resulting in a collision. The camcar then had to swerve and brake in order to avoid colliding with the Nissan. It almost seems like the Nissan vehicle did not check his blindspot and the lane before recklessly changing into a lane that was already occupied. This seems like extremely irresponsible behavior that could have resulted in massive damage if a collision had occurred. According to Traffic Police, reckless or dangerous driving could potentially warrant you liable to an imprisonment period of up to 12 months as well as a fine of up to $5000 or both. This is so as to promote road safety as well as to discourage reckless driving on roads. Netizen Comments Netizens express their take at the situation above, criticizing both the Nissan driver as well as placing partial blame on the driver of the camcar. Personally, I think that reckless lane changing on roads should definitely be harshly punished before irreversible consequences occur. But with a different perspective, could this near collision have been avoided if either car had slowed down? Could this have been avoided if either car had given way and slowed down? Live and let live, a little patience goes a long way. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. A commercial van has been spotted entering the PIE (towards Changi) from Jalan Bahar and abruptly changing lanes from lane 2 to lane 1. In doing so, it caused a relatively serious accident. Watch the video for yourself below. The accident The van's sudden and abrupt lane change resulted in a motorcyclist toppling over after not having sufficient time to react. The van did not even bother stopping and continued to speed right up ahead, leaving the damage behind. The car behind the motorcyclist, a Honda Vezel was forced to jam his brakes in order to avoid crashing into the motorcyclist. It almost seems like the van driver wasn't even remotely remorseful about the damage that he caused considering he sped off without a second thought of the motorcyclist. Or maybe the driver did not realise it had caused the accident? But wait, there's more! According to road regulations, commercial vehicles are forbidden from driving on lane 1 of an expressway. This offence is considered as road hogging and is punishable with a maximum fine of $1000 as well as 3-months jail for first-time offenders. Not to mention, this van driver also had another offence = failing to signal when lane changing. This itself is punishable by a $70 fine for light vehicles as well as a $100 fine for heavy ones according to the Traffic Police. Netizen Comments Netizens have also gathered to criticize the van driver as hell, blaming him for endangering others and hoping to file a complaint against him as well as calling for harsher penalties. I sure hope the motorcyclist suffered no permanent injuries and is able to receive justice for this accident. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 5. So today we have our weirdest accident where the Honda Shuttle (David) decides to lane change into the path of a UD truck (Goliath) that weighs 20 tons. 🙄 Here's the recap. Both vehicles try to change lane at the same time. I assume that both drivers are aware of the other's presence and both must have the "same thinking". Honda Shuttle: Aiyah, I can pick up faster than the truck one. UD Truck: I am bigger and I am at the right of way. After the accident occurred, the honda owner came out of his car probably to confront the truck driver. My personal take is this. p.s. This is my personal opinion, so take it with a pinch of salt. I find that the fault lies on the Honda Shuttle driver, as he wants to avoid the left turn lane and he does not want to wait for traffic to clear before move off. The truck clearly signals his intention of filtering left since the start of the video. Just stop and let the truck driver go lah! So difficult meh? Here's the full video. So ladies and gentleman, please drive with extra prudence especially during this period, if possible stay home and stay safe. Anyway sidetrack a bit, there is a nice ban mian at ARC380 (where the accident takes place) very nice one. You guys can check it out. 😂 NOT A SPONSORED POST. 6. So, I chanced upon a video posted on ROADS.sg Facebook page with the caption: "Posting as video witness. Lorry driver changes lanes without signalling or checking blindspots, causes Pizza Hut delivery rider to slip and fall to avoid collision. Wishing rider speedy and full recovery. Happened along Thomson Road on 12/01/2021." My first thought: What exactly is it about turn signal / indicators that makes them so difficult to use?! Whenever an incident occurs, only the first party would know what exactly happened, however, some Facebook users felt that the lorry driver wasn't in the wrong: Indeed, when you take a closer look, it does seem like the slippery white line on the road might have contributed to the Pizza Hut delivery rider's loss of control of the bike. Whether the delivery rider fell because of the slippery road conditions, he was forced to react in a split second (likely after a long tiring day of riding in the rain)to save his own life, all because the lorry driver didn't felt the need to use his signals. At the end of the day, we should always be considerate on the road, nobody can read your mind, if you want to make a turn or lane change, is it really that much to expect everyone to use their signals?
