  1. Hi Guys, I am new to Conti rides. Have stucked with Jap rides for years. Recently the market situation forced me to liquidate my investments and fortunately I am not too late to pull out and made a little profits. Now, I have loved the look of the new C-class the first time I saw it and shopped around before deciding to get a 2nd-hand 2+ years old C200 Kompressor Avantgarde. It looked to be in great condition, well-maintained and has low mileage ( < 15k km/year) but i can never know what type of thrashing it has taken over the last 2+ years. So I decided to send it in for STA inspection. Should be receiving the results soon. Meanwhile, I have some questions below I hope someone will be able to help: 1) Exactly how exhaustive are these STA inspections? Do they look into all aspect of the car's health eg. encoutered accident before, swam in the flooded basement parking of Orchard road, badly thrashed? Any hints? 2) I was considering getting a new C180 with the 1.6ltr engine but felt that the 1.6ltr will be stressed more than the 1.8ltr engine. Hence, I settled for the C200 (it is also cheaper). I have already committed to the C200 in a hurry, I must say, due to the rising COE. Have i made a stupid decision? Be frank, but also be mindful that the price diff between the new C180 and the C200 is like $50K - $55k. Thanks guys.
  2. Have any comments with this 2 models?
  3. Found this good summary below of MB's change from kompressor to CGI technology. http://www.mbgbrothers.com.au/content/aust...sor_to_CGI.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BlueEFFICIENCY is a range of green environmental technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and improving fuel consumption across the Mercedes-Benz range. As a part of the BlueEFFICIENCY strategy, Mercedes-Benz has replaced the Kompressor engine with the new CGI engine in the C-Class Saloon and Estate. The Kompressor surpercharged engine was developed to boost a car's power and acceleration using a forced induction system. New innovations in engine development have produced the Charged Gasoline Injection (CGI) engine. The CGI engine uses homogeneous direct injection with high-precision piezoelectric injectors combined with turbocharged for an increase in output from a small displacement engine. Alternatively, the Kompressor engine used a supercharger which drew its power from the engine, thereby increasing the petrol consumption. The CGI engine has reduced fuel consumption from 8.1L/100km (C 200 Kompressor) to 7.3L/100km (C 200 CGI). The CGI engine is also cleaner than its predecessor, expelling 171g CO2 p/km (C 200 CGI) compared with 200g CO2 p/km (C 2oo Kompressor). A reduction in engine noise and improved torque output are both benefits of the switch to CGI engines. The new CGI engine demonstrates Mercedes-Benz dedication to reducing the impact of its vehicles on the environment.
  4. Hey forum mates, E200 Kompressor is actually a 1800cc engine churning out a respectable 184bhp. this figure is even higher than honda's 2.0litre civic Si engine and BMW 523's 176bhp engine(2500cc). 1) I realized that the word Kompressor is only written on E200. Does that mean that variants like the previous E240, E230 don't have the Kompressor feature? 2) Everything else, for instance, servicing interval, durability, remains the same as a normal engine, so does that mean that this is the future of engines especially in SG context where road tax is based on engine capacity? What are the disadvantages? 3) Mind sharing how the Kompressor function works in layman terms? Does it behave like a supercharger? Thanks
  5. My friend is keen in the above, but cannot decide between the Sports version and normal version. Any known problems with this car? Pls give your comments.
  6. Extracted off VOGS: TOYOTA LAUNCHES HOTTER COROLLA Supercharged VVTL engine boosts torque, driveability Toyota has launched a hotter Corolla, one that it describes as "faster, more powerful and has better handling and more street presence than ever before". We'll take the street presence claim with a pinch of salt (as with all such claims), but the company has beefed up the car by adding a supercharger to its high-revving VVTL-i engine, the same zingy mill that sits in the Lotus Elise. While in the Lotus, the motor has under 1,000Kg to shove, but the Toyota Corolla 1.8 VVTL-i Sport is a chunkier kettle of fish at 1,255Kg. So keeping the Corolla moving quickly means remaining in the 6,000-8,000rpm powerband. Not always ideal and eventually tiring. It also makes for lethargic performance when the engine's working outside that powerband. The new Corolla Compressor uses the same 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine as the Sport but the supercharger boosts output from 189bhp to 215bhp. That helps knock 1.5 seconds off the car抯 0-62mph acceleration time, down to 6.9 seconds, and adds 3mph to the top speed, now 143mph. With extra torque at lower engine speeds a maximum 159lb-ft at 4,000rpm the Compressor is more flexible. Toyota claimed fifth gear acceleration from 50 to 75mph in 8.5 seconds, while 37 to 62mph in fourth took only 6.1 seconds. To accompany the power hike, the Compressor is fettled with 15mm lowered sports suspension and uprated springs. It also gets 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/45 tyres plus a roof spoiler, rear air dam and sports exhaust with twin tailpipes. Toyota has also added adjustments to meet Euro IV emissions standards. Only 250 right-hand drive Corolla Compressor models are being made available in the UK. The model goes on sale on 1 November 2006, priced on-the-road at 9,995.
  7. Fellas! I just tested these 2 models. The 9-3 sibei fast sia! Thats when the LPT kicks in. Even though its LPT, it feels like a full boost turbo! But the interior really cannot make it lah. It looks cheap and is full of plastics. I bet rattles and shakes will surface before long. Of the 2, I like the C class the best. Its not fast but is comfortable, quiet and luxurious. So Radx ---> I guess the choice is now between the new C Class, the upcoming E90 and the E46 coupe (or Cabrio)
  8. Source: DaimlerChrysler First unveiled 25 years ago, since when 182,000 units have been sold, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has made a name for itself all over the world. At the Geneva Motor Show the Stuttgart-based auto maker will present the most powerful version of this robust cross-country vehicle yet: the G 55 AMG. The new arrival's supercharged V8 engine brews up 476 hp of power and puts maximum torque of 516 lb-ft on tap as low down as 2650 rpm. The G 55 AMG thus outstrips the output of the predecessor model, with its naturally aspirated V8 power unit, by 34 percent and boasts an increase in torque of 32 percent. With its ample reserves of power, the G 55 AMG treats its passengers to unrivalled authority, exclusiveness and perform-ance both on and off the road. There is certainly no doubting the performance credentials of the G 55 AMG: with acceleration of 0 to 50 mph in 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h it can leave some sports cars standing in its tyre tracks. The new G 55 AMG is available as a five-door station wagon with a long wheelbase and will be arriving at Mercedes-Benz sales and service outlets and dealerships in June 2004. Layout: Front-Engine/AWD Transmission: 5-Speed Automatic Engine Type: Supercharged V8 Displacement: 5439 cc Horsepower: 476 bhp @ 6100 rpm Torque: 516 lb-ft @ 2650 rpm Redline: 7000 rpm Performance 0-60 mph: 5.5 sec
  9. I felt like the bloody punk!! I was driving along M.Sultan slowly becasue there was a Cab infront of me (knowing cabs i didn't know when the cab was going to hit the brakes for some passengers) so i kept a safe distance when this bloody punk around his 20s started tailgating me so i tabbed my brake to let the bugger know that "you're going to kiss my ass" when the road cleared the punk came up beside me and rammed his engine!!! I was boiling by then!!!! I chased up to him halfway and stopped at a traffic light and i thought to myself this punk ain't worth it. So i decided to ... When the next traffic light came i was still behind him and i shifted to nutural and rammed my engine a bit to let the punk know that i was still with him. When the lights turn green he sped off and i smelt his unburnt petrol and i made a U turn. It felt good to let him go and let the punk waste his petrol. I know who the better man was.
