Anyone know why conti car like Renault, BMW, Merc etc. can have longer servicing interval like 15k or 20k whereas Jap/Korean cars only 10k? Is it bcos the engine block is of better quality?

Many of us believe that using synthetic engine allow us to extend oil change interval. The most common is " mineral oil last a 5,000km and synthetic oil last 10,000km" how true is this? Or actually, svc interval is the same?

My next oil change is 113000km. My timing belt change is recommended at 120000km. Is it safe to change timing belt at 123000km instead? It's a Ford Focus 05. Cheers.

Had this problem coming up on me after I had just sent my Spb for servicing. So had to send it back to reset the service interval. Apparently you do not need the Vagcom to reset it. You just have to press on the rignt trip meter reset button, at the same time turn on your engine and without releasing the right button turn the left clock button clockwise. The service reminder will be reset. Just something for you guys out there driving the Spb 1...not sure if it will work for Spb 2 or octys...

Hi I used to service eg. engine oil, oil filter and spark plug at 10000km. However some bros with the same car told me I have to change at 5000km because our engines are old and further more its turbo charged. I am using Redline full syn and only heard before that mineral oil have to be changed at 5000km only. Please educate me! Thanks!

Why does cars like vw and a few other brands has 15k/20k servicing intervals, whereas for jap/kor cars service interval are at 10k? Do they use diffrent syn oil or their engines are better build?

For those who are on nitrogen filled tyres... Do you guys check the tyre pressure constantly? How often do you top up / refill the nitrogen?

Bros for the 1.8T in Singapore what is the recommended OCI for this car? 1) Passat 1.8T in US is (5k miles) 8,000km for Synthetic oil 2) C&C is 15,000km 3) Others workships recommend 10,000km OCI with synthetic oil which should it be for the safe running of the car without the sludge problem so notoriously known in US ? please advice, fluffy

Hi all, In view of the upcoming oil change, I have reviewed the requirements for the engine oil to be used on the Superb. The information can be found in: - Page 211 of the Superb owner's manual ("Inspecting and Replenishing") - Page 5 to 11 of the Service Schedule I believe all the Superbs sold here are specified with the QG1 service interval. To see which service interval your Superb is specified with, follow the procedures: - Turn to Page 0 "Vehicle Data" of the Service Schedule - Look for the bottom leftmost 3 alpha-numeric code. The code will indicate which service interval your ride is specified with. According to the Owner's Manual and Service Schedule, engine oils fulfilling the VW 503.00 specification should be used in oil changes (Page 211 of manual, Page 9 of Service Schedule). Specifications of the VW503.0x oils are as follows. VW 503.00 This is a relatively new oil specification for petrol engines with variable service intervals. It includes the AUDI S4, but not the RS4, or the TT and S3 with outputs of more than 180bhp. Viscosity rating: SAE 0w-30 VW 503.01 A new oil specification specifically for the RS4, and the TT and S3 with outputs of more than 180bhp, Passat W8 and Phaeton W12. Viscosity rating: 0w-30 Source: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/technical-g...ons-here/22016/ More information on the VW503.0x oils which are available (non-exhaustive list). http://www.vagsg.com/forums/viewtopic.php?...8&highlight=503 Based on the specifications of the Mobil 1 silver and Shell Helix Ultra engine oils that CA has been using, they do not fulfil the VW503.0x specifications. The VW503.0x specifications cover the weight 30 engine oils. To prevent premature sludge formation due to improper use of engine oil, I'd recommend that you consider bringing your own VW503.00 (weight 30 oil) when you go for oil change either at CA or other VAG workshops. One of the most well-received VW503.00 specified engine oil to date in US is the Castrol Syntec GC 0W-30. If you are keen, I can organise a Group Purchase for this oil for our Group. http://www.castrol.com/castrol/genericarti...ntentId=6006933

How much would there be for a 2002 version S40 ? If it is carry out in alternative workshop.

so much talk about oil change intervals... so what's yours?

According to Regent Motors, ATF flush should be done every 60k which I felt the interval is a little too long. What's yr opinion ?

Care to share your oil change intervals VS your car's recommended one? My is recommended at 15k but I do it every 5k due to a lot of city driving. If U change your oil at 10k or 15k, do U change your oil filter only at halfway mark before next oilchange (aka 7.5k or 5k)?

Like the TV series Numbers, everything can be mathematically determined. OK visit this page here: http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/interval.html Yes they are the same guys that are doing the Amsoil vs M1 ongoing study on the longevity of synthetic oil. Firstly, you need these online calulators. Fuel economy conversion calculators: http://www.projects.ex.ac.uk/trol/scol/ccfuel.htm OR http://www.sciencemadesimple.net/fuel_economy.php Engine displacement conversion calculator: http://www.4lo.com/calc/literstocid.htm Finally, miles to km calculator: http://convert.french-property.co.uk/ So assuming I am using RP. RP has a TBN of 8.0 (actually most good PCMOs have a TBN of 8.0 and most HDEOs have 12.0) My engine is a 1.4L so that translates to an 85cid engine. The fuel economy I'm getting is 13.5 consistently. The engine churns out 94HP. My sump capacity is 3.8qts. (I throw in 4qts actually) Using the Kublin method, I get an oil change interval of: 8742miles That is equivalent to: 14068km Wow! My oil can go so far! By using an oil with a TBN of 12.0 like Amsoil or Schaeffer's Supreme 9000 5W40, this bumps the OCI to 21101km! I wouldn't dare attempt the Heidelbrecht method. Very complicated and you have to measure the make up oil you put it. I may kiam but won't kiam until this extreme!

Why is it that some continental cars like th Skoda have oil change intervals of 15K km, while Jap cars in general have 10K km oil change intervals? Suppose both are using the same synthetic engine oil, I'm sure the same oil can last 15K km in the Jap car as well?

Can anyone confirm if the recommended servicing intervals by SA (1000km, 5000km and 10000km) is by mileage or odometer reading? I thought its by odometer but... ...went for my 1st service at 1000km and they put a reminder sticker thats states next service at 6000km (odometer reading). If this is correct, the next scheduled service after the 6000km should be 16000km (6000+10000km). Somehow I think they wrote wrongly or I misinterpret their definition.

Just sharing my thought; For my Skoda, I would follow the recommended oil & filter change at 15,000 km interval from now on. If I'm not able to clock that mileage in a year then, I will change the oil and the oil filter once a year. And my sparkplugs, reckon should last about 20,000 km without problem. Air filter - only change when its dirty. Should be about 2 years. Battery shd lasts about 1.5 years (still using the original since day one) Tyres - replace when worn or after 3 years usage. Wheel balancing - One and the half yearly or when necessary (steering vibrate) Hope others can share their views.

AMSOIL recommends "25,000-mile or one-year drain interval". Has anyone tried it?
