  1. There is never a day that doesn't look busy for you. After dropping the older girl off at school, then her younger brother off at his childcare centre, you'll have to take Mum either for the routine health check-up, or help ferry her around for those mahjong get-togethers with her friends. That's even before bringing in all the other household errands, and the personal appointments you have yourself. In other words, having your car at your disposal would really help to save your time. But accidents on the road do happen - even if they're not of our own making. If your car needs some downtime in the workshop due to an accident, what comes next? If your mind is already floating towards struggling with booking private rides, layers of tedious paperwork, and countless phone calls between the multiple parties involved, fret not. A simple yet comprehensive answer exists in the market today, ensuring that nothing will drastically disrupt whatever you plan on a daily basis for your family (and yourself). The importance of tailoring coverage to specific needs It goes without saying that having some coverage for yourself and your car is a necessity. A week (if you're lucky), or worse, an entire month (if you're not) can be thrown into disarray, if this isn't something you've made sure to deal properly with. Apart from this, getting a good deal is also foremost on every driver's mind. How far this coverage should extend, however, ultimately depends on the driver. After all, different lifestyles bring different risks with them. A simpler scheme, like the FWD Car Insurance (Classic Plan), already ensures that your bases are sufficiently covered: For medical expenses in the event of injuries in an accident, repair, and replacement costs, as well as extended workmanship guarantees for repairs handled by FWD's certified workshops. For drivers who have already accrued a pre-existing No-Claim Discount (NCD) of 50% for behaving well on our roads, signing up with FWD also ensures a Lifetime 50% NCD guarantee - as long as they remain a customer. FWD is currently the only insurer that offers this. What about those who prefer something more comprehensive so that their partner who also occasionally drives can be insured? (This will come in even more handy when the kids get their licenses, and take the car out for meet-ups.) Apart from bumping up your daily transport allowance, moving upwards to the Executive Plan already removes another huge stressor by allowing you to cover anyone who drives your car, without the complexity of you having to name them. If your personal belongings are damaged, you'll be able to get some reimbursement too. Furthermore, it unlocks the usage of a courtesy car, provided, and arranged for by FWD Insurance, that will dutifully accompany you until repairs for your own car are complete. These benefits are available too under the even more intensive Prestige plan, for which the levels of financial coverage are taken another notch higher. On that note… Taking comprehensiveness a (unique) step further What exactly is a courtesy car, you may ask? Instead of having to source for alternative transport options on your own with the allowance provided, a courtesy car is effectively given directly to you for use - so that you can very quickly get back into your schedule. This isn't an exaggeration too; you could technically pick up the car, but FWD can arrange for it to be delivered straight to you. As for what happens with your actual car, one of FWD's network premium workshops, spanning 15 locations islandwide, promises to help ensure your car is assessed and expertly dealt with. If you would rather engage your preferred car workshops for servicing and repairs, both the Executive and Prestige plans also give you the freedom to pick the repair workshop of your choice. Worth noting is that FWD's plans are unique by the very quality of offering both of these benefits simultaneously! A dedicated "personal assistant" for all your claims-related needs All of what has been mentioned thus far may sound like quite a lot to digest - and it rightfully is so; with a certain level of comprehensiveness also comes a certain level of complexity naturally. The best part about FWD's plans, however, is the assurance that all this can be simplified with one extra, crucial component: A claims concierge. This dedicated 'personal assistant' will be there with you every step of the way. It starts with arranging the aforementioned courtesy car, and then, of course, continues with timely updates on the status of your car repair as it's in the workshop. Not sure what the next step is? That's okay - the concierge will bring his/her own experience to the table, ensuring that proper corrective actions are taken. If multiple parties are involved, the concierge will shoulder the tediousness of the coordination too, while also dealing with all the unwieldy paperwork tied inextricably to the case. (One can only imagine how much time they'd be saving if the process of ironing out issues turns out to be very long-drawn.) You'll finally be promptly informed when your car is ready for collection. Arrangements will be made for the handover of the courtesy car, too, for those who've opted for and utilised it. Final note: Building your own insurance plan on a solid base We've merely scraped the tip of the iceberg here. For instance, excess amounts can be adjusted further, and those who do road trips up North - all the way into West Malaysia and Southern Thailand - can even opt for additional coverage. Underpinning this tailored customisability, however, is the same security one will feel knowing that their coverage is comprehensive, that no additional headaches will arise regardless of what happens on the road. 2. Hi, a newbie here. Seeking for insurance claim advice on a minor car accident I got into recently. This is the first time I'm owning a car and also the first time I got into a car accident. However, I am sure I am a pretty safe driver and have been driving for more than 6 years. I was driving home (into a private estate) and in this estate, there is only one lane in and out. It is a daily occurrence for cars to park on the left side of the road. Hence, I had to drive on the right lane in. This is when a lady who exited her house came out and our cars collided. I have filed a third party claim but the insurance company (AXA) rejected it as they claimed that I was going against traffic directions. I was shocked because the dashcam video I sent clearly shows that there are cars on the left lane. The lady who reported my case for me told me that the officer in charge is firm on her stance that it is my fault as I am on the wrong side of the road, and that the lady who exited her house only needs to check for traffic in her direction. Firstly, I ensured there are no cars heading out before turning into the road. After turning in, a lorry was driving out of a minor road in front of me. I slowed down but there were no signs of the lorry driver stopping. As such, I had to use my horn to warn the driver of my presence and also slowed down further, almost to a stop. After the lorry driver came to a complete stop, I continued on the road and this is when a car exited her house hitting into my car front RH section. I would like to reiterate that I have slowed down as I had just made a turn, and had to slow down further due to the lorry exiting Chong Kuo Road. I am certain I am driving at an acceptable speed for the road. Secondly, I am also aware that I am driving against the traffic direction. However, with cars parked on the left side, there is no other way for me to drive home. As shown in the video, there are cars parked on the left side, right outside the third party's house. In this case, shouldn't AXA take this into consideration? Furthermore, she is also a resident of this private estate and she should have known that she has to check both sides before exiting her house. In fact, they own more than one car and also park their cars on the road. Last but not least, when I alighted my car after the accident, a man, who seems to be her family member (also in the video), repeatedly mentioned to the driver that she didn't check the road before exiting the house, to which she did not refute. This differs from the statement she provided to AXA (she said she checked the traffic before heading out but I came at a fast speed, hitting her car). As there is a 14 day period for me to file my claim, I've followed the authorized workshop's advice, to file under own damage claim, before carrying on with the case. Otherwise, I would have to wait to get my car's repairs. I was told that chances are I can only claim 50 50 in this case and I had also heard from people that going for own damage claim ruins my chances at the third party claim. Thus, I am now worried that the appeal does not go through. I have attached the video for reference, and I would like to get an opinion on whether AXA's decision is fair. Otherwise, is there anything else I can do for myself to get a fair judgment? Sorry for the poor video quality. I purchased this car just a couple of months back and I did not check the camera settings. 2021-01-05_11-40-48-Normal_Front Camera.avi
  3. new low here ... Son and mother charged with faking death to obtain CPF, insurance claims SINGAPORE: A man and his mother were charged on Friday (Apr 12) with faking her death to obtain Central Provident Fund (CPF) and insurance claims, the police said. Abraham Rock, 35, and his mother Talat Farman, 53, are accused of making more than S$3.7 million in false claims. Insurance firm AXA lodged a police report on Nov 13, 2018, after it found several irregularities in the documents relating to Farman’s purported death in Pakistan. By then, S$49,000 had already been paid out from the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) under the Dependants' Protection Scheme while S$80,331.23 was paid out from her CPF account. Officers from the Commercial Affairs Department arrested Rock on Nov 21, 2018. Farman was also subsequently arrested. Rock faces a total of 11 charges, including charges of engaging in a conspiracy to commit cheating, giving false information, making a false statutory declaration and providing false evidence. His mother faces five charges of engaging in a conspiracy to cheat. If found guilty of cheating, the pair faces up to 10 years in jail and a fine for each charge. For making a false statutory declaration or providing false evidence, they face up to seven years in jail and a fine for each charge. If found guilty of giving false information, they face up to one year in jail and a fine of up to S$5,000 for each charge. Both are out on bail of S$15,000 each and will return to court on May 10. The police said that they worked closely with the insurers during the investigation. “In our continuous effort to combat fraud, it is vital for all insurers to be proactive in detecting and reporting suspicious cases to the authorities,” the police said.

  5. Early last month, I got into a minor accident. I was at fault. Both cars suffered some external dent, no problem to continue driving. Since it's quite minor and I am on NCD protector, I told the other driver to claim against my insurance. We both went through the usual reporting procedure. I got my car repaired in two days, change one door panel. I paid for my own repair of about 1k. I expect the repair of the other car should be the most about similar amount. The other driver sent his car back to the authorise agent. His damage was a dented front bumper and some plastic parts around the fog light area As it's my fault, I really feel sorry for causing trouble to the other driver, so I had been checking with him constantly. After more than a month, his car is still not repaired yet. He waited 2-3 weeks for the insurance to approve his claim, then waiting for parts to arrive (VW MPV), and still waiting. From my past experience few years ago of claiming against others for minor accident, the most was about a week, including insurance survey and repair. Is there change in insurance claim procedure? Anyone know why it's taking so long, or is the other driver not doing it correctly?
  6. Need advice from the experienced seniors here. I was involved in an accident in early 2012. I was hit from behind by a taxi when I stopped on red at a traffic junction. To cut the long story short, the case only concluded earlier this year with the courts ruling either 80% or 90% in my favor, with all compensation paid. I thought that was the end of it. However, I received a letter today, from a lawyer acting on behalf of the passenger claiming to be in the taxi at the time of accident. The letter is demanding for my particulars, insurance details, copy of police report etc, threatening legal action against me if I do not reply within 7 days. The letter was sent via normal mail and not registered mail. I thought these details are easily available from TP as long as they pay for the report? I don't quite like the threatening tone of the letter. Can I just ignore it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJjh7lW5OZE From the land that brings you the Golden Horse Awards comes a series of fake accidents intended for insurance claims. The latest incident shows a young man who simply walked onto the road right in front of an oncoming car and squatted down. The best part is, the car has sufficient time to slow down and avoided the pedestrian. This public nuisance is probably risk-adverse and hence resulted in the failed attempt. The footage looks rather hilarious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDfy6lxuSgo This incident is not the first of its kind in Taipei in recent weeks. Previously, a young girl simply run towards a car and threw herself onto the bonnet, pretending to be injured. The whole incident was captured by the CCTV in the car. Well, at least this young lady is braver than the joker above. However, it looked painfully silly as well. The pair should get some acting tips from the winner of the 2011 Golden Horse Award Best Leading Actor, Andy Lau. Try harder next time!
