  2. Plans to install closed circuit televisions (CCTV) at locations across Singapore to deter illegal parking have been delayed. The cameras were initially targeted to be implemented by the second quarter of this year. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said companies which won the bids earlier were unable to comply with parts of the tender specifications. LTA did not provide further details. New proposals are now under evaluation. LTA expects to implement the CCTVs progressively at 30 locations from the first quarter of next year. It should be completed by end-2014. So far, a pilot project at Marine Parade Central and Beach Road has produced results. Since cameras were installed in those areas in 2011, the number of parking violations recorded jumped by three to six times, to about 1,200 each month. This is compared to 400 for Beach Road and 200 for Marine Parade Central before the cameras were installed. Tan Boon Huat, managing director of Grassland Express, said: "Previously, cars used to park indiscriminately, resulting in one lane less for vehicles, so there will be traffic congestion during peak hours. "Before, it was just too congested… Now it's… better… not only for taxis but (for) all the cars. So the lanes are not jeopardised by vehicles which are not moving." 3. Good Day All, I've got a question on 3 way installation with DSP and hopes that the seniors here are able to give me some advise. Currently, I'm running a 2--way active front setup using a Pioneer DVD player with 3 pre-out linked to my Audison BIt one DSP. I'm ready to move on to 3-way active setup. however, I notice that my currently pre-out are all used up, but when I removed the RCA from the 1st Pre out, my speakers are still working, I read up somewhere before that the 1st pre out is used for channel A = Tweeters & 2nd pre out for Channel B = Mid, As I plans to upgrade my RCA Cables at the same time, could I remove all 3 RCA from the pre outs, and use 1 Pre out connected to my Bit One via RCA and split the channels via my Bit one to the individual amps? all inputs are greatly appreciated. thank you.
  4. I have noticing quite a number of cars fitted with HIDs that aren't properly installed - the kind that totally kills your night vision even if you try not to look directly at them. Those cars that come with factory-fitted HID (usually) have more diffused beams that do not cause a nuisance to other road users. Case in point, I was at the carpark next to Liang Court over the weekend when a Toyota Ist fitted with such HID was waiting for a lot while I was trying to get out of the carpark. In frustration I switched my lights to high-beams. By this time he was trying to back out of the carpark as well, so I simply aimed my car at him and followed his car (and shining my headlights back at him) till he managed to do a three point turn (I drove past him as he was doing the three pointer). I had half a mind to wind the windows down to ask if he knew his headlights was that blinding, but decided that exchanging words wasn't a good idea. It was also so bright I couldn't really see his licence plate either. I have no issue with properly fitted HIDs, be it factory, or a lower-spec car upgrading to a higher-spec car's projector HID beams (eg. 1.6 FD Civic using the 1.8 or 2.0 Civic's HID lamps) but I think drivers should be responsible for ensuring their headlights don't blind other people.
  5. Hi all, Let's take a look at the cables that he actually uses in the installations. These materials were used when my car's ICE was installed by Zoom in Sep 2001. Top Cable = Power Cable to the amps The insulation of the 8AWG power cable reads: +++ High Current Low Voltage Power Cable OFC HOTLINES USA 8AWG +++ Middle Cable = Ground Cable from the amps The insulation of the ground cable reads: LLL58118 CSA TYPE TEW 12AWG 105 deg C 600VAC FTI RYTHM Bottom Cable = amplifier output to the passive cross-overs. There are no markings on the cables. Some notes: 1. The power and ground cable must be of the same thickness (gauge). This has been emphasized in most installation manuals like the following: Note: The ground cable must be as the same size as the power wire. (from http://www.precisionpower.com/ppipdfs/ppiamps/ppi2ch1.pdf page 3) It really puzzles me for using a 12AWG as ground cable and 8AWG as power cable 2. Cables for AC and DC usage. All ICE equipment are powered using DC. Does it make sense to use AC cables for ICE applications? 3. Speaker wires from http://www.precisionpower.com/ppipdfs/ppiamps/ppi2ch1.pdf page 5, it is stated that speaker wires must be at least 16AWG. Have a good look at the thickness of speaker cables used.
