Received from a friend, just to share.. Bros Beware!!. I almost fall victim to a scam deployed by china nationals over the weekend. On Sunday early morning at about 1am,I was having supper with a friend at a coffeeshop at the junction of Joo Chiat/Duku Road. Meanwhile,I was waiting for my wife to call me to pick her up at the airport once her plane touch down. As soon as my wife called,I went across the road to fetch my car whilst my friend went to the counter to buy a pack of cigarette. At the carpark,I need to reverse my car abit to drive off and suddenly, out of nowhere,a guy in the mid twenties and quite well built, came pounding at my car saying that I injured his foot whilst reversing.I was his target as he saw that I was alone. He was threatening and aggressive and demanded that I get out of my car to “settle it”.My immediate thought was how could I injure him at a quiet carpark in the wee hours and he should have known if I was reversing!!.It could be a scam.I refused to get out of car and told this guy that I have a friend with me who is buying cigarette and will arrive soon to check on his foot. When my friend was there and upon hearing what happened says that this guy is drunk and not injured at all.We told him that in Singapore,if someone is injured,we have to notify the police.Whilst he was arguing with my friend,I called 999 from inside the car Within minutes,an accomplice of his came to ask what was happening. We told him that the police is arriving soon to handle this matter.Knowing that their scam is not working and I was not alone,he tried to get the drunken guy to forget the matter but instead this guy went inside my car and wanted to know why I called the police when he did not hurt me.I reiterated that since he claimed that he was injured, the police has to be notified. He then boast that he is not afraid of our Singapore police as he have many “connections” back in China.I then asked him what does he actually wants from me.He replied that since I “injured” his foot,I should apologize.By this time,my wife is already at the airport pick up point and I just wanted to get this over.I apologized and these 2 guys then fled across the road where their getaway car was waiting I immediately called the police who are already on the way,to say that this matter has been resovled and no one will be at the scene as I need to rush to the airport.I confirmed with the police that this matter can be closed since there were no bodily injuries or $$$ paid On Sunday afternoon,I called the police hotline and informed them of such scams in that vicinity and that I am prepared to identify the culprits if any arrests are made Be on the lookout for such scams especially if you are driving alone at night and need to park at quiet spots!! Regards

BMW is recalling some 7,600 2012 3 Series models for head restraints that could rise beyond the federal limit after tests conducted by BMW. The affected vehicles were built between 19 Oct 2011 to 18 Mar 2012, according to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In the event of a crash, with a headrest is the full upright position, downward movement in excess of 25 millimeters may increase the risk of neck injury. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries relating to this defect have been documented so far. BMW will inspect and repair these models as necessary, with no expense to the owners. The repair works involves fitting a clamp to the headrest post on both front seats to limit the amount of upward travel. However it is not clear if the local 3 series models will be affected. The 2012 BMW 3 series was launched in Singapore recently.

Hi, Would like to seek out some opinions or experience in dealing with injury compensation. It had been a year since my accident with a taxi. Long story cut short, I was stationery while awaiting to make a right turn to my carpark. This taxi came at high speed and hit me from the rear. Concussion and landed in A&E. Was told to stay warded but insist to leave hospital due to personal reasons. 1 month mc with neck in brace Was told by my 3rd party workshop that the car was under custody of the TP and they have already engaged a lawyer for our case. Will be suing for medical and personal claim along with repair from workshop. Medical bill, till date, already cough up to above 5 digits. As for medical status, despite a year. I

But what came as a shocker next was a 3rd party claim(the taxi driver) of bodily injury of $7.2k wow lao, i mean the taaxi driver was ok lor, he even came down to talk and investigate and was alright. i think just becuase cannot claim workshop, he play punk and claim bodily harm, ok maybe he can fake back pain and get doctor certify. but really sianz... i was in the car with her and saw the whole incident..sianZ

Take away - keep your kids in booster seats for as long as possible! At least till they are 4 feet, 9 inches, or 1.45m (!). http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/...Name=healthNews NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Children younger than 12 are at heightened risk of suffering a spinal injury during a car accident -- possibly because standard seat belts often do not fit them properly, researchers report. In a study of children treated for car accident injuries at two Australian hospitals, researchers found that those younger than 12 were seven times more likely than their older counterparts to sustain a serious spine injury. All of the 72 children and teenagers in the study had been restrained at the time of the accident. The higher spine-injury risk before age 12 "may reflect the adequacy of seat belt fit," the researchers report in the Archives of Disease in Childhood. Because standard adult seat belts do not fit smaller children properly, experts advise parents to use car booster seats for children who have outgrown traditional child safety seats. "However, in most countries the uppermost design mass of boosters effectively limits booster seat use to children up to the age of approximately 8 years," write Drs. Julie Brown and Lynne E. Bilston of the University of New South Wales in Sydney. These findings suggest there is room for improving seat belt fit for older children, Brown told Reuters Health. And that, she explained, means modifications to both seat belts and the seats themselves. Studies show that most rear-seat passengers are younger than 18. But Brown said that rear-seat cushions are too long for many children, even older ones -- which causes them to "slouch" in order to bend their knees over the front of the seat. That, in turn, can upset the proper positioning of their seat belts. The shoulder strap, Brown noted, should pass over the shoulder and center of the chest, while the lap belt should cross low, over the hip bones. "Vehicle manufacturers need to design the rear seats of their vehicles so that this is achieved and maintained during a crash," Brown said. For now, she advised parents to use car booster seats for as long as possible -- until they are about 4 feet, 9 inches and can sit comfortably with their knees over the front of the seat, without slouching. Some older kids may be relatively short but too large for most booster seats. Brown noted that some seats are designed with different shapes that may be a better fit for older children. I was told we go to IDAC and report our case. My friend got into accident with no injury, then go to IDAC and report. The person took down the 'statement' but they feel the way he write it, sounds a bit inaccurate of the actual situation. But the IDAC person keep saying never mind one, this one not final. in the end, insurance company say he is at fault. What is the way to re-address this ? thanks

ST 13/4 Claims are sometimes larger than those for repairs, and they are driving premiums up Motor insurers, which have been battling the scourge of inflated repair bills for years, are now facing a new monster: injury claims arising from road accidents, and not all of them appear to be genuine. Industry players said the claims, which are sometimes many times larger than those for vehicle repairs, are costing insurers an arm and a leg in payouts and driving premiums up for motorists. One leading insurer said it received on average 300 injury claims a month last year - more than double the 140 a month it received in 2006. Another top motor insurer, Axa Insurance, said its volume this year has already exceeded last year's by up to 20 per cent, with whiplash, cuts and abrasions forming the bulk of claims. 'There is a worry about a rising trend in orchestrated injury claims,' Mr Derek Teo, president of the General Insurance Association (GIA), told The Sunday Times. 'Very often, they would pertain to whiplash, which is hard to substantiate or refute.' Last month, the GIA announced an initiative which it hopes will reduce inflated claims. From next month, motorists involved in an accident will have to inform their insurers within 24 hours. Industry sources said this was because people were less likely to lie or would have fewer opportunities to collaborate with workshops to submit inflated claims within the first 24 hours of an accident. But observers pointed out that the new plan would not address rising injury claims, which were sometimes filed days after an accident. Police statistics show that over 44,000 people were 'slightly injured' on the road between 2003 and last year. The annual figure crossed the 10,000-mark last year to hit 10,250 - 30 per cent more than in 2003 and outpacing the 16.5 per cent growth in vehicle population since then. Private investigator Louis Amalorpavanathan of GLA Claims Adjusting and Investigation Services said injury claims have shot up over the last year. He blamed lawyers. 'Most insurance companies are now encouraging direct settlement for repair claims, bypassing lawyers who used to be involved,' he said. He explained that this resulted in less business for some lawyers who specialised in accident claims, prompting them to scour for injury cases to represent. Lawyer Monoj Kumar Roy, 47, had this to say in retort: 'That's an unfair statement. Many people in the past did not know they could claim for injuries. How can lawyers drive injury claims if there are no injuries?' He added: 'Admittedly, there are odd cases of fakes. If insurers think there is no injury, they should fight the case and get it thrown out.' Another new development could affect the business of lawyers. As of last month, disputes arising from non-injury motor accident claims below $1,000 are no longer heard in court. Instead, they go straight to the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (Fidrec), an independent resolution centre set up in 2005. The Sunday Times understands the $1,000 cap may be reviewed - and possibly raised - in future. According to industry sources, the Subordinate Courts may soon make a similar move to outsource injury claim disputes to Fidrec because the number of such cases had exploded. The Subordinate Courts said a workplan rolling out soon would include changes in this area, but declined to go into details of injury claims being handled now. The move to divert non-injury accident claim disputes to Fidrec is expected to shave about 1,000 cases off the courts' workload.
