  1. Autoblog.com reported last monday (July 30th) that Toyota is in the process of forming a special committee dedicated to creating interesting cars, mainly because Toyota has no sports cars left in their current line-up. Lexus is of course working on some good stuff, i.e. the IS-F and LF-A, but since the MR2 and Supra, Toyota has only been supplying the non-performance section of the market. So the time has come for the resurrection of the AE86, a Corolla coupe from the 80's. Japanese car magazine Best Car (Japanese language site) has pried loose some initial specs of the AE86: under 4m long, approximately 1,7 m wide, measuring 1,35m from the ground up, target weight lies under 1000kg, will most likely be powered by a 1,5 liter 2NZ-FE engine. Toyota's new partner, Fuji Heavy Industries (or Subaru to most people) will be supplying the RWD drivetrain. Like the Scion xD, which is branded as the Toyota ist in Japan, there is a good possiblity that the AE86 might make it to the USA as a new Scion tC, or as an entirely new Scion budget performance car. Toyota is aiming for a 1.5mil Yen (or $12,300 / under 10,000Euro) price tag. for more pics. visit..
  2. Hi fellow MCFians, I'm looking for a white Toyota Corolla AE86 Sprinter Trueno with the same decals as featured in the Initial D movie. Car will be featured in an MTV for Borneo Motors Dinner & Dance themed Movie Extravaganza. It will be a one day photo-shoot event sometime end of this month and I doubt the car needs to be driven much. There will be some remuneration for the job. If you own or know someone who owns the the above mentioned car, kindly give me a call/sms @ 91468636.

Should see how this guy drifts his delivery truck around the corners and the windy roads. To perform such stunts, thought we need cars like Evo, WRX or cars with similar setup, but I'm wrong here. http://mikeyip.com/chinas-very-own-initial...wn-edison-chen/
  4. my car just crashed earlier today and the outlook is not good went down to the car dealer to look for another car and he recommended the honda fit so i went for a test drive and i find that the fit is actually very fast car for its small engine, probably as fast as my previous kia koup at low speeds but the engine seems more willing to perform at higher speeds... the dealer says that it can top out at 130km/h the car is really easy to control and because of its small length from driver's view to front of vehicle, it is extremely easy to judge u-turns and tight corners interior is similar to my soon to be previous car, everything's plastic but honda's plastics seem to be of a higher quality front seats are relatively spacious, back seats are rather cramp though understand the fuel tank is only 33L, the car should be able to go 16km/l, how true is this? overall i'm relatively impressed by the car any fit drivers here? what are your impressions of this car? i'm seriously considering this atm. i will need a car for CNY so i have to buy a new one within the next few days provided i'm able to settle the bank loan and stuff for my previous car... crashed the thing even before i made the 1st payment off the installment very huge disappointment

  7. Again, Singaporean only know how to kpkb when price increase but in the end they will just get used to it over time. Nothing change and hence these people can anyhow increase their price as and when they like and we still buy . I am not refering to taxi alone, many thing in our daily life increase but we will not make alternative plan even when it is increase. April 25, 2008 FOUR MONTHS AFTER FARE HIKE Cabbies' earnings up despite initial fears Ridership also up as commuters return to taking taxis By Maria Almenoar THE chorus of complaints that came from the taxi industry after fares were raised in December last year seems to have died down. Although some customers initially stayed away from taxis, there has been a turnaround, and with it fears that the earnings of cabbies would drop seem to have eased, according to surveys done by the country's two biggest taxi companies. ComfortDelgro, the largest taxi operator here with about 15,000 of the country's 24,000 taxis, saw a 16 per cent increase in takings for a cabby's full day of work. For a full-day shift, cabbies are earning $187.92, up from $162 before the fare revision, after deducting the cost of fuel and renting the cab. SMRT, which has about 3,000 cabs on the road, said cabbies saw a 20 per cent increase in gross income in the first quarter of this year, compared with the last quarter of last year. The data came from a survey of about 300 taxi drivers. In a bid to alleviate a taxi shortage and raise the drivers' earnings, the six taxi companies increased their starting metered fare from $2.50 to $2.80 in December. The meter was also adjusted to tick faster, with 20 cents charged for every 385m up to 10km travelled, instead of 10 cents for every 210m. However, commuters were most peeved by a revised peak-hour surcharge which was tweaked from a flat $2 to 35 per cent of the metered fare. The surcharge for picking up passengers in the city centre also went up from $1 to $3. After first avoiding taxis in favour of public transport, more commuters seem to be going back to them. The average daily ridership for taxis for January was 855,000 while February's went up to 934,000. Last year, the average daily ridership was 945,000. Said 55-year-old cabby Haniff Mahbob, who has been on the job for 20 years: 'After fares went up, we had few customers. But luckily the new fares offset our lost business. Now, business is definitely picking up. I'm sure more drivers have bigger smiles on their faces.' Call bookings are also on the rise this year, according to ComfortDelgro. The company will also soon offer a service which allows passengers to book a cab by sending an SMS message with their postal code and pick-up location. The Taxi Operators' Associations, which represents drivers' associations of five of the six taxi companies, said: 'The situation seems to have stabilised and improved, but we are still quite concerned that rising fuel cost may eat into our drivers' income.' Oil prices hit a record US$117.50 (S$160) a barrel this week. On average, taxi drivers on a full-day shift spend close to $40 on diesel and about $90 on cab rental.
  8. How many bhp does an Initial D Toyota Crown have? Nicely done up. Why would anyone wanna spend money to do up a rental vehicle that does not belong to them? Must be a car enthusiast. Can it pass the twice yearly inspection?

  11. Was driving on the ECP this morning. exit Marine parade at ard 100+. Road was still wet. found the car starting to understeer so turn the wheel slightly more. Next thing i knew i was slowly pointing to the inner curb while car was sliding like a rally car. Realised i was gonna approach the traffic light too fast this way so had to counter steer and straighten the car out. thank god for a good chassis, it didn't loose control when i shifted the momentum. Never realised could turn out this way with a front wheel drive car. Must admit if i didn't know how to control it, i would have been part of a lamp post or palm tree. it was the smoothest slide i've ever encountered. Reinforced my love for my Octy, saved my life again with such grace an elegance. Made a complete novice like me handle a near spin like a pro.

  17. Top up a full tank with BP Quantum 98 yesterday and started the dirve today. I have a 50 litre tank with the Pug 206. Upon reaching my office (20 km), the meter dropped to the next mark (about 10%)!!!. How can this happen since a Mobil 98 gives me about 13.8km/l? Will continue to monitor and will report the final result here....
