Feb 15, 2011 'No smoking' rule in coffee shop ignored LAST Wednesday, I was at Ting and Ting Foodcourt at Block 494, Jurong West, around 7pm, and saw three customers smoking at a table in the "no smoking" area there. The coffee shop owner did not do anything to stop them. I hope the relevant authorities will step up their spot checks to ensure coffee shop owners enforce the "no smoking" rule. Also, it should be made compulsory for coffee shops to display prominently the relevant hotline number for members of the public to report instances of non-conformity to this rule. In this way, the authorities will be able to take immediate action against coffee shop owners who do not enforce the rule. Anthony Goh Isn't there a NEA hotline he can call to send officers down to spot check? Unless owners face hefty fines then they wl be more on the ball abit.

Was having dessert last nite in Chinatown. Along came a non Chinese man with a file. He looked Arabic or Indian, I cant really tell. I guess the file had descriptions of his disability but I dun really know cos I never look at it and just waved him away. He had a metal prosthesis on his five fingers. I think the device is supposed to help in his hand movement. Anyway he later sat down at a table beside me and ordered something to eat. The lady boss took his order and asked for money first before she would serve him. Many people came and went, and all were served first. My wifey asked me why he was made to wait so long. She had wanted to approach the lady boss and demand that he be served, after all he had paid. He was served after a while. I never give money to beggers cos I think they are mostly con man or just plain lazy. However I do wonder if my outlook is influenced by our Govt's approach to these people. Compassion is lacking and their attitude is you gotto take care of yourself. Notwithstanding if you are disabled, under-previledged or temporarily displaced. Now I am still feeling a bit sad. My defence mechanism has taken away any compassion I may have had. Something is not right .............. I hope I can change.
