Sometimes also unavoidable. Got children fell asleep and must wait somewhere. With this kind of weather... OK let's try harder to off. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/environment/stiffer-fines-for-repeat-offenders-of-vehicle-engine-idling-from-june-1 SINGAPORE - The National Environment Agency (NEA) will increase the penalty for repeat offenders who leave their vehicle engines idling from June 1, as part of ongoing efforts to further improve Singapore's ambient air quality and safeguard public health. The move serves as a stronger deterrent against idling vehicle engines, NEA said in a statement on Friday (April 29). It added that the higher penalty for repeat offenders is being imposed following an upward trend of such offences. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of enforcement cases grew from about 3,200 in 2013, to 3,800 in 2014, and 5,100 in 2015. During the first three months of 2016, NEA took action against 1,489 errant motorists for idling engine offences. Under the Environmental Protection and Management (Vehicular Emissions) Regulations, it is an offence to leave the engine of a motor vehicle running when it is stationary for reasons other than traffic conditions. Starting from June 1, motorists caught leaving their vehicle engines idling for a second or subsequent time may compound the offence by paying a composition sum of $100, up from the current $70. If the composition sum is not paid, the errant motorist is liable to a maximum court fine of $5,000 upon conviction. The regulations apply to all motorists driving all types of motor vehicles, except: vehicles that require their engines to be switched on for operation of on-board machinery, such as chiller trucks, concrete mixers; taxis/buses in a queue at their designated stops, stands or terminals waiting to pick up/drop off passengers; vehicles that are used for law enforcement or emergency purposes, such as ambulances, SCDF or police vehicles; vehicles undergoing inspection or maintenance. NEA said signs have been installed at hotspots to remind motorists about the new regulations. It urged motorists to turn off their engines after parking their vehicles. Members of the public who spot parked idling vehicles are encouraged to report them to NEA through its hotline (1800 2255 632), email ([email protected]) or the myENV app. Details such as the vehicle registration number, location, date and time of the incident should be included.

Intermittent erratic idling and hesitant acceleration
Kklim posted a topic in General Car Discussion
Got a 2009 Sylphy 1.5 (non-CVT). Been having intermittent erratic idling when stationary and engine hesitation when accelerating; CEL light didn't come on. Spark plugs and air filter are newish and I clean the MAF sensor with CRC cleaner regularly. Brought to workshop (ex-Tan Chong staff) for checking but no fault codes surfaced. Swapped MAF sensor, filter, PCV valve but couldn't pinpoint the problem. What else could it be? Clogged injectors, faulty crankcase positioning sensor? Thanks for any help.- 12 replies

Today, I encountered a strange problem. The car suddenly revving between 1000rpm to 2000rpm. I was not stepping of the accelerator. Even when the gear is put to P or N, the needle went up and down. When reaching traffic light, I needed to step hardware in order to brake. Anyone encounter such an issue before?

Even though I change to new coils and plugs. It also lack power and it seem that the petrol flow is inconsistence. My jb mechanic suspects that the fault is due to the injection stage. Anyone knows where can I clean or change the injection (oil mouth)? Yours inputs will be very much appreciated.

Hi guys, im driving a 08 SSS. About 2 weeks ago, realise that the car while idling, the rpm was unstable, once in a while the rpm will drop to 500 and jump back to 900 causing the car to vibrate. It wasn't so bad but was irritating at first. About few days back, the unstable idling become worse, sometimes the car even stall while idling. Today, the car stalled 3 times during a traffic jam and 1 shot stall 4 times at the red light. When stalling, the car doesn't jerk, the rpm just smoothly drops to 0 rpm and the engine die off "peacefully". I was told that it could be dirty throttle body. However I did throttle body cleaning by a freelancer about 20k milage ago so I dont think the throttle body gets dirty so fast. general servicing including spark plugs was done not too long ago. Clutch, gear oil all less than 1 year ago. My engine is also stock however currently using open pod. Could anyone enlighten me the problem? Was told to go for throttle body cleaning again however I read online that dirty throttle body seldom leds to engine stalling so im not very sure thou

Brothers and sisters In your expert opinion, what is a good sedan to get if you are always waiting in the car around town, engine on, aircon on, etc? What are the criteria do i have to look at? Like for example: strong battery, low fuel consumption, strong cold aircon, engine won't buildup too much carbon deposit, etc? This car's sole purpose is to ferry passengers to and fro. Luxury is a plus point, but no need too ostentatious. Performance and handling not really necessary. I am thinking, something like a low tech SOHC engine Korean or Japanese car?

I encountered a new problem upon reaching Port Dickson 2 days back: 1) Difficult to start - the engine normally just fires up at the turn of the ignition, but after parking for 1 hour at the resort carpark, the engine refused despite a few series of cranking. At the end, I got the car started after applying gas through the pedal. It's still the same today. 2) Idling is uneven - when in the past the engine will turn at 850rpm thereabouts (with or without aircon), now the rpm fluctuates between 700~1000, depending on the aircon. Vibration can also be pronouncely felt the cabin, when in the past such intrusions were completely absent. Everything goes back to normal once on the run - no power loss, smooth pickup and cruising....till the next stop. Thinking back, I can only relate this symptom to one thing I did wrongly. 2 weeks ago, the engine was idling quietly when I absent-mindedly cranked the engine. There was that all familiar sandy-rasping sound, but nothing happened at that point. Anyone can advice what could have gone wrong?

Recently there a lift upgrading polling at Potong Pasir brought to us by SeeToh, the failed PAP candidate to win over the the heart of Potong Pasir. They build a nice air condition temp office at the void deck. The problem is they also brought in the generator for this temp office, which took over one parking lot. This generator is turned on for several hours and polluting the air around. Can smell the fumes from the top floor. Is this violating the NEA regulation for stationary vehicle? http://app2.nea.gov.sg/data/cmsresource/20...12506886164.pdf

Sometimes its for reading newspaper or even having a short lunch nap. Will this damage your engine in the long-run or its just a case of fuel-consumption or wear-&-tear on certain parts of the car. My car is idling lean after I replace my spark plugs and I am not sure why though. Anyone faced such problems? I am using Autronic SM4 (open mode cause I don't have O2 sensor that is compatible with the SM4), Mallory promaster coil and Bosch IR Fusion plugs and Pviot Ignition VS. The car is idling at stoichiometric ratio. After I replace the plugs, A/F would go lean when car is idling. OK, I did mod the plugs by side gapping it and increase the gap to 0.88mm which is wider than factory gap. I have to increase my fuel a little balance things out. I am a little curious that why would changing plugs cause the car to idle lean? doesn't seems like misifing as well though as the car runs very smooth. Even better than the Bosch plugs.

All is not well in Maranello. It would appear that the ripples of the global recession have finally reached mighty Ferrari. According to Bloomberg, the Italian supercar manufacturer has decided to cool production and send a healthy handful of workers packing amidst the announcement that production targets have been nearly halved for 2011. The report points the blame directly at Maserati. Ferrari's sister company has scaled back its orders for Ferrari-built engines, leaving both companies' coffers light. Ferrari is contemplating drastic moves in order to maintain its profitability, including nixing 120 office positions and 150 factory jobs. The company also wants to idle its production facility for a full week

Hey all seniors! I have encounter this problem ocassionally: 1) Normally, When i drive with AC on, the idling is at 1200-1300, and when i off my AC, its at 700-800 . But i had this problem yesterday (again..had this a few times liao) after driving for 10mins, i decided to off my AC during a jam, then my idle falls to 200-400 suddenly, and engine stall and cut off eveything! scary! but when i turn my AC on the idle went up to 800 and car is back to normally but brakes and ride felt weird. What seems to be the problem? 2) Whenever after i parked my car, i will let it cool down and idle for 2mins without my AC, then similar problem occurs ocassionally - the engine will then idle low similar as above 200-400, and it will cut off by itself... Anyone can help?

Not sure what you call them, but there is a idle sensor which if faulty can have an effect on the AT. My car was recently diagnoise with that. And the mech told me, I was fortunately if not have to change another sensor for the AT. However, after the change discovered that idling not ideal cos can rise above the normal previously. And today the gears suddenly jerk when moving off. Got a fright. The most pressing issue is mechanic is missing prolly due to illiness. Was suppose to have him check on the problem after the idle sensor was replaced cos he suspected the wires could be faulty as well. I hope the mech was not pulling a fast one as his business oso not too fantastic recently. I am worried that car cant last the 10yrs..... All things change after last servicing with change in EO to 30wt and renewal of ATF. Any comments on mech's assumption? As may have to go to other mech if current is still missing.

Are you guys aware of this? If someone spot that you leave ur car engine idle, and u left ur car for some time, they can actually submit ur car plate, location etc to NEA and you can be fined... champion.

What's the difference between these 2?? i notice that my car 'idling' will drop after certain period, and have to tune up the idling point a bit inorder to maintain the same rpm, else it will be too low and it will vibrate too much...and also once the rpm drop below 1K, the fan vibration sound will be heard(mostly at night when headlight is on)... i am driving an old swife, with 3 piston engine. i know it will vibrate but sometime the idling needle will drop to near dead and suddenly jump back again... this is especially so when traffic jam. for info: engine mounting changed, throttle body not in good condition (as told by mechanic), spark plug new, aircon compressor changed, hmmm what else?? cant remember also. Any good ideas??

Hi, I am trying to get some statistics here. Recently, I find that the power has diminshed and fuel consumption has been trending up. From the Maxi-dot, may I know what is the idling rate of consumption (in L/h) when the car is stationary, air-con on and brake applied? Mine says 1.7-1.8L/h.

Hi guys, always hear others aying cars use more petrol when idling, is it true? why so?

Dear MCFers, I've installed the Simonta open-pod air filter (replaced my KNN drop-in) and the car feels more torquey in low-end. I'm driving the 91 Suzuki Swift 1.3. However, the idling is erratic at 1000 - 1500 rpm and after you rev and let go of the pedal, the rpm stays there...?? Any kind advice or any good old-mechanic to check/tune my carb engine? Could be it due to the higher airflow causing this? Thanks in advance...
