hi, have a problem today. hope you guys know what it is. kia forte 1.6sx of 5 years and 4 months old, 77Kkm mileage. Today the car jerks at idle at red light, and i can see that RPM slight jumps up and down, like 400rpm - 700rpm. Usually it is idle at 400rpm without up and down. The jerk is about every 4 seconds, not constant jerking. can feel the car tremble. When i press the throttle to accelerate during travelling, the car will jerk again, and does not accelerate instantly as normal. after a while it accelerates to a higher cruising speed, then it's OK again. During jerking, the engine light flashes like 10 times. when the jerk stops, engine light becomes off again. I just changed engine oil and engine filter 2 months ago. Is this worn spark plugs, or ATF due to change (coz it's been a while), or both, or something else? Thanks.

Sometimes also unavoidable. Got children fell asleep and must wait somewhere. With this kind of weather... OK let's try harder to off. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/environment/stiffer-fines-for-repeat-offenders-of-vehicle-engine-idling-from-june-1 SINGAPORE - The National Environment Agency (NEA) will increase the penalty for repeat offenders who leave their vehicle engines idling from June 1, as part of ongoing efforts to further improve Singapore's ambient air quality and safeguard public health. The move serves as a stronger deterrent against idling vehicle engines, NEA said in a statement on Friday (April 29). It added that the higher penalty for repeat offenders is being imposed following an upward trend of such offences. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of enforcement cases grew from about 3,200 in 2013, to 3,800 in 2014, and 5,100 in 2015. During the first three months of 2016, NEA took action against 1,489 errant motorists for idling engine offences. Under the Environmental Protection and Management (Vehicular Emissions) Regulations, it is an offence to leave the engine of a motor vehicle running when it is stationary for reasons other than traffic conditions. Starting from June 1, motorists caught leaving their vehicle engines idling for a second or subsequent time may compound the offence by paying a composition sum of $100, up from the current $70. If the composition sum is not paid, the errant motorist is liable to a maximum court fine of $5,000 upon conviction. The regulations apply to all motorists driving all types of motor vehicles, except: vehicles that require their engines to be switched on for operation of on-board machinery, such as chiller trucks, concrete mixers; taxis/buses in a queue at their designated stops, stands or terminals waiting to pick up/drop off passengers; vehicles that are used for law enforcement or emergency purposes, such as ambulances, SCDF or police vehicles; vehicles undergoing inspection or maintenance. NEA said signs have been installed at hotspots to remind motorists about the new regulations. It urged motorists to turn off their engines after parking their vehicles. Members of the public who spot parked idling vehicles are encouraged to report them to NEA through its hotline (1800 2255 632), email () or the myENV app. Details such as the vehicle registration number, location, date and time of the incident should be included.

Recently I noticed that after I fill up petrol and start my vehicle up, the idle RPM tends to go up to around 900. Usually it's closer to 600-700. Is this cause for worry, or normal? I drive off and after a few minutes, idle RPM goes back to the usual when I'm at a stop.

Hi Bros, My 8years old car showing this problem while in Johor-Batu pahat yesterday, when car was idling, the rpm shoots to 3 000 rpm.Upon googling, the culprit could be air intake sensor. Type:Hyundai Avanter 1.6 Auto Engine oil,oil filter, spark plug(Denso) is changed every 10 000km ATF fluid changed every 30 000km No modification was done. Any bros in similar situation?Wonders how much the cost.2 years left..Not worth to spend more than 2/3K for this problem.

Hello everyone, What are the possible causes for a CEL and high idle speed after engine rebuild? CEL came on 4 times over a span of 3 days and 250km. Returned to workshop and mechanic said there it was loose wiring. ECU was reset and CEL came on again after 19km, idle speed is still high. FC has also increased tremendously. Thanks. AC on AC off

Background: Installed a reputable tuning box two days ago. After install did 3 cold starts, another few warm start. Travelled around 100km with no issue at all. In fact car has never been so smooth. Did about 30km of spirited driving at lim chu kang yesterday 4am. Power improvement is exceptional. Today:Had a cold start in the morning, no problem. Nothing abnormal. Then followed by another 2 warm starts, plus some short journey in between. Then wash car AND ahem, radiator using hose. Somehow the water trapped in the radiator was blown onto engine bay by the fan. Car still drive normally and was shifted to dry area. Then I went on to reposition my tuning box without touching any connectors. After which the car could still start, idle and rev normally to 2k rpm. So close hood and go home. 1 hour later want to go out. Car could start but few seconds only the engine will stall. Repeated 3 times and finally just press accelerator a bit to keep it going. Few seoncds later engine can idle liao. More water was sprayed onto the engine when the radiator fan started going...wiped dry. Car no abnormality. Drives and idles normally. So my problem with the idle was more possibly caused by tuning box or the water?

I'm getting this quite regularly now. After the engine is started, at 1500RPM -- no vibration. After warming up, at 1100rpm, -- can feel engine vibrates. After engaging D gear, -- no vibration. What is the most likely cause? Notes: 1 - Car is 4 years old @ 84K mileage. 2 - Last major servicing about 1.5 years ago including decarbonization, fuel injector cleaning with regular 6 months oil change interval.

Hi Bros, As above. Anyone know how does a idle bearing looks like? Or is there any other word to describe it? Hub bearing etc..? Cos idle bearing got problem liao.. Need to order and want to make sure parts is correct.

I've heard different theories - leaving engine running and on idle while stationary leads to problems for the car when it gets older, and frequent on-off of engine is not good idea either. So who is right?

I'm driving a Pinic. Presently, at 78500km. For the last 2 weeks, when I stopped at traffic junctions, the engine vibrated at idle on drive mode. What is the problems?

I am driving a 2 year-old Mazda 3SP. Just changed to a new battery 2 months ago. Changed to open pod, piggyback, CAI ... Last week, during traffic light stops, the car suddenly died on me. Aircon and audio were still on, and working fine. In a spate of 30 mins, I had to restart the car for at least 4 times. Went to mechanic to check, and he suspected is the valve in the open pod giving the problem. Nevertheless, he said my car changed this and that, here and there, hence he cant confirm the problem. Any bro face the same problem before ? Pls help. Dont want to car to stall suddenly.

Hi Guys. Have recently noticed this in my ride during idling. Engine would hum smoothly, but every 1-2 minutes, can feel a skip/hiccup in the rythm. There's no lound or audible noise, but can feel the skip through the vibration of the car (hand of steering wheel). It goes something like this: "brrrm, brrrm, brrm, brrrm, brrrm, .. .. brrrm, brrrm, brrm, brrrm" - There's no stalling. Engine contiues humming without dying - Engine idle rpm is constant (must check again to be sure) - Using RON 95 I'm worried that this could be the beginning of something and hope to address it before it becomes a problem. Based on my layman's guesses, could be the following ??? - Fuel need to be higher octane. (I'm using 95 as recommended) - Need to service and replace engine oil. - Fuel Filter clogged. - Engine needs tuning. My ride is due for servicing in another 500km. So thinking of getting this looked into at the same time. But must know what to tell them to avoid being "smoked" and getting a big fat bill for unnecessary part changes.... Any experts please feel free to offer advise. Thanks In Advance

i have a totally unmodified 2002 Corolla 1.5 Xli(A). Occasionally, and i must stress- unpredictably, idle speed drops to 500 rpm and vibrates the car REALLY violently for 2 or 3 seconds before climbing back up to normal. It does not always happen, and when it does, its always after at least 15s or so of idling at the red lights with tranny in drive mode and aircon on. And the vibration always lasts 2-3 seconds at most, before rpm goes back to normal. 99% of the time, she can idle all day and not exhibit this problem at all. Apart from this unstable idle speed poblem, engine is still as good as brand new. Powerful, rev-happy and redlines all day with ease. Throttle body has been dismantled and throttle valve cleaned thoroughly, twice infact, but to no avail. I use Shell 95 UL all the time. Belts are fine, sparks plugs are new, air filter is new, ATF is new and engine oil is changed religiously. Should i change fuel filter? (Manual says change every 8 years; girl's barely 3 years old)Could this be an idle control valve problem? Its really expensive to change. . . at least 200bucks brand new. . . . Anyone has the same problem? Is Borneo able to resolve it? Help!

I noticed this problem only when taking long trips. I'd drive at 120kmh for a long time, and when I'm about to get off the highway, I step on the clutch and shift to neutral and let the car coast. However, the RPM of the car sticks at 3000rpm even after I'm coasting. It happened for a few seconds, and I rev it abit and it drops back down to proper idle rpm. How do I debug this? Got to do with my idle control, CAI?

I have switched from Vpower recently to Mobil/Exxon and noticed a jump in idling after that. When I was using Vpower, idling was about 800-1000rpm but upon switching to Mobil Ron98, it has jumped up to 1500rpm (going up and down). Thinking that the ECU may be the cause. BTW, I have been feeding my Suzuki Swift 1.0GL with Vpower for quite some time now (hehe...overkill but company pay, so use lah) but had to switch to Mobil after my company switched to support Mobil/Exxon instead of Shell. The mileage that I have gotten for full tank seems to be the same (didn't fluctuate drastically) after the change though. I will approach a workshop this weekend, but if possible will like to get some pre-information first to avoid being ripped. :P Hehe, maybe that's the result of putting something too good for an old car.

Hi All, Need some advise to a problem that i am facing to the current car i am driving. The car will randomly shakes, and the rpm meter needle will jump when idle. The problem is more obvious when the aircon is on. The car i am driving is a Toyota Corolla 1.5L (A) FL, and just sent for oil change at 15K using RP 10W30 engine oil. Mods that been done on the car: - Grounding - DIY DPS - 2 pairs of magnet on the fuel line So far have tried looking for answers to this problem on net, but could not get a picture of what is wrong with the car. Or, any workshops to recommend, which can help to check what is the problem. Thanks Regards

u guys think it is better to retune the engine? my engine idle seems to drop to 500 rpm i think n sometimes not nice as it tends to vibrate sometimes.....where to retune n how much it costs?

What can I do? 1. Car takes too long to go down to idling rpm (personally prefer at 8rpm) ... like up to 10 minutes? 2. I have been driving <2rpm whenever I do a cold start in the morning ... 3. I only switched on my aircon and radio when it hits 1rpm at least. 4. Related to old age of car? Ed

Was on sick leave for the past 2 days and spent a bit of time washing the car. Noticed this blue Rolla driving up the MSCP and I instantly knew who it was and knew what he would do. He parked right up nicely into a lot, left his engine on for the next half an hour while chatting on the phone - the time I took for the wash job. And it's not uncommon to find him doing this...especially on weekend mornings. Having driven for many years, I have always believed that engine idle should be kept to a mimimum. Oftentimes I've seen many drivers who park 'temporarily' - only to leave their engines and airconditioners on. I thought the following points might be helpful for new drivers who may not ever have had a clue about the cons of leaving the heart of a car on while not on the move: (http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/cleanairpart...e_factsheet.pdf Idling creates unnecessary pollution A vehicle idling for five minutes produces more than a quarter kilogram (271.4grams) of the greenhouse gases that are destabilizing our planet
