  1. General info 7 Speed Dual Clutch gearbox 1.5L engine with Hybrid 4 year old 55k Kms Servicing done every 10K - Engine oil+filter Other major fluids every 20K - Brake, clutch, gearbox, coolant Symptoms: I am experiencing a strange humming sound from the front of the car which gets louder as the speed increases. Recently changed to a set of Goodyear Assurance Triplemax 2 from JB (early Oct) - Tyres are relatively quiet, after about 3 weeks and 800kms suddenly the humming sound surfaced, suspected tyre run-in and got noiser, hence swop front to rear and the sound persisted. Swoped 4 tyres with my friend's Bridgestone RE004(20k km) and the sound is still present. Verdict - Not tyres. Did some running tests with the following results: Car will swop between engine and EV battery mode during cruising - in both modes - sound persisted. While humming is present - shifted to Neutral gear to coast - sound persisted. My mechanic (not PI workshop) suspects the noise is coming from the gearbox main shaft bearing as it is constantly in motion even if the gears are not engaged. I would like to seek some advise on the possible cause of this noise before I seek a second opinion and possibly try to claim warrantly for any premature wear from my PI. 🙂 Thank you very much in advance 🙂
  2. My Kia cerato is giving a humming sound whenever the steering wheel turns, sound like hmmmm. Changed power steering fluid but the noise persists, no leakage no CEL. The power steering is hydraulic, no problem with turning, and can hear the fluid flowing sounds too. What could be the issue?
  3. Have been asking around about this in the other thread (thanks soya) but to gather more insights, I will set up this thread. Recently, my car is giving out this humming sound (ok at low kmh, and higher kmh) at 60-90kmh. My car is also giving out this klak klak sound if my steering is turned to the extreme. Humming sound gets louder is go on bumps. This humming sound is not so evident if my car is turning right, ie weight distribution more to the right side. It is very obvious if weight distribution is centralized or more towards the left hand side. As such, I suspect that something is wrong with the bushings, shaft, bearing at the left side (front) My qn is, are both this klak klak, humming sound related? And what's the difference between bushings, shaft, bearings? Which one should I change?
  4. need help.. i just done my servicing yesterday. the only thing done was change engine oil and top up coolant water. today when i start my engine there's this funny sound that does not go away, its a high pitch mmm... sound.. then when i accelerate and change gears it follows.. as in if you had sat TIBs buses.. that wad it sounds like. then when i get out of the car.. the engine bay reeks of burnt rubber/plastic smell but i cant seem to pinpoint where is it coming from. any one has an idea what happened? or any good place for a diagnostic check tomorrow?
  5. My car has just gone past 50k mileage. As I travel on the expressways, I hear this "Ngong..ngong..ngong....." humming. I figure it might be my bearings. I've talked to other car owners with cars utilizing torsion beam suspension for the rear and they all say that it is tell tale of worn bearings. Without fail, they say it is the rear. Supposedly that it is true that my bearings are worn, why is it always the rear ones on a beam axle suspension are the first to go?
  6. Folks, I need some advice here. Noticed lately my car has a humming noise when driving. Noise increases as speed increases and is loudest at 80 km/hr. Beyond 80km/h, the noise reduces again. Not sure if it is resonance at work or due to tire contact. Mine is a 3 yr old car. Does anyone have such a problem before? We all know one way to save on fuel is to minimize the use of air-con. With the compressor running, does it make any difference if I increase the fan speed? How abt adjusting the temperature knob? Is there any fuel consumption (does the compressor cut in and out?) if I set the temp at the coldest versus setting at mid-range. Thanks

    Humming noise

Not sure if it is resonance at work or due to tire contact. Mine is a 3 yr old Daewoo Lanos. Does anyone have such a problem before?
