WASHINGTON: The longest-serving TV game show host in history signed off on Friday (Jun 7) after presiding over US primetime hit Wheel of Fortune for 41 seasons. Pat Sajak has been a fixture in American homes since 1981, hosting more than 8,000 editions of a show that has become part of early evenings for millions of households. "Well, the time has come to say goodbye," he told viewers in a clip from the pre-recorded final show. "It's been an incredible privilege to be invited into millions of homes night after night, year after year, decade after decade." He described the half-hour show as "a safe place for family fun. No social issues, no politics, nothing embarrassing I hope - just a game." "Thank you for allowing me into your lives." Sajak, 77, was renowned for his low-key, unflappable style, asking contestants to choose a consonant or buy a vowel in the word-guessing game. With his suit and even tan, he chatted with guests and bantered with co-host Vanna White, who joined the show in 1982 just a year after Sajak. In 2019, Guinness World Records awarded Sajak the title of the longest career as a game show host for the same show. White paid an emotional tribute to her partner on Thursday’s episode, calling him “like a brother” and a “true lifelong friend,” adding that their personal friendship has meant even more than their professional collaboration. Sajak announced in June 2023 that he would retire from his hosting duties at the end of the show’s 41st season, with America Idol host Ryan Seacrest set to succeed him. White will stay on as Seacrest’s co-host through the 2025-2026 season, based on a contract extension she signed in September. In a recent interview for “Good Morning America” with Sajak’s daughter Maggie, who serves as the show’s social correspondent, the host said he felt “surprisingly OK” given that he announced his retirement almost a year before his final show. “I’ve had time to sort of get used to it and it’s been a little bit wistful and all that, but I’m enjoying it and taking it all in and reflecting on a great run,” he said. Looking back on his time with the popular game show, Sajak said he is grateful for how audiences across the country connected with the show and made it a part of their daily routines. “Somewhere along the line, we became more than a popular show. We became a part of popular culture, and more importantly, we became a part of people’s lives,” he said. “That’s been awfully gratifying". https://www.channelnewsasia.com/world/pat-sajak-wheel-fortune-final-show-4393876

Come and play soccer with me, I let your score 2 or more goals ...... yahoo news: Has Priscilla Wong been sexually harassed by English footballers? 11 Jun – TVB actress and host, Priscilla Wong recently denied being sexually harassed by English footballers on the latest episode of her sports programme, "Pilgrimage to Football Meccas". According to Hong Kong's On CC News, Netizens recently expressed their concern for the actress, after watching the 19th episode of the programme, whereby Priscilla and co-host, Tony Hung travelled to Manchester to visit the Old Trafford Stadium. While playing football with the Village Manchester FC, Priscilla scored a goal and was quickly surrounded by other players who then pinned her down in celebration of her success. Several Netizens alleged that some of the players may have taken advantage of her and groped her chest. However, Priscilla was quick to dispel the harassment allegations. Speaking to the media at a function recently, she revealed that Village Manchester FC is a team consisting of gay footballers and that playing with them felt like spending time with a group of sisters. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...bs_halfway.html Stars performing at one of the biggest Getai shows of the Hungry Ghost season last night (August 12) found the show thrown into chaos when one-half of the famous Ming Zhu Sisters duo collapsed suddenly, wailing and sobbing incoherently. STOMPer Ian was enjoying the Geylang Serai show from the side of the stage when he heard a woman wailing loudly and sobbing as if something terrible had happened. He was shocked to see Zhu Li Li, younger sister of Getai duo Ming Zhu Sisters, sobbing uncontrollably as her stunned sister and colleagues tried to calm her down. Despite he screams of protest, the getai veteran was carried out into the open field to get more air. Shortly after an ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital, incense and hell money were burnt as an offering to appease the spirits. Though clearly shaken, the stars continued with the show, says an impressed STOMPer Ian. Ian says of the incident: "I was standing near the backstage area. "Zhu Li Li and her sister were part of the six-man hosting team for the night and it was their turn to rest as another singer had gone on stage to perform. "I saw her taking a seat and drinking water when suddenly, she appeared to have collapsed on the floor with sobs. "Her sister was standing next to her and appeared visibly shocked but managed to react quickly enough to support her. "Stars in the waiting area immediately came to help lift her onto a chair but she refused to sit. Her wailing got louder at this point as she begged everyone to let go of her. "They must have thought she was possessed by something supernatural as her elder sister began to ask: 'Who are you?' (你是谁?) repeatedly. "Zhu Li Li did not respond and just kept crying loudly. "Later, I heard from one of the crew that her limbs had gone cold as she collapsed. "They tried to get her fresh air by carrying her out into the open field despite her protests but the crowd that gathered around defeated that purpose. "An ambulance arrived within 10 minutes and she was taken away. "Her sister, who looked scared and confused, along with other stars, began to burn some offerings and incense at the spot where she fainted. "She then wiped away her tears and continued hosting the show with a smile on her face. "It is commendable that she managed to remain so professional despite her worries". Go to Getai A-Go-Go to find out more about the Ming Zhu Sisters.

Although next year's WC will be in a nearer timezone, I am tired of watching WC at crazy hours when they go to Europe and South America. If Singapore and Malaysia cooperated, do you think they have the chance to win co-hosting rights for a World Cup? Even if Singapore can co-host, will you support it since the national team will most likely get eaten alive?

The Porsche World Roadshow is likely to be held in Singapore for the very first time early next year. Pending approval from the authorities, it will take place here to allow its participants to experience the Porsche brand. This long-established event is usually held at a racing circuit, such as Sepang in Malaysia or Sentul in Indonesia. But this time round, specially invited guests are expected to meet at distributor Stuttgart Auto's headquarters in Sungei Kadut. The plan is for them to drive to an area in Tuas which has been blocked off so that they can put the range of new Porsche models through their paces, as two German instructors show them the finer points of safety driving. Those on the guest list will include Porsche owners, prospective customers, and the private banking clients of a few banks. A total of 160 people are expected to take part over five days with two half-day sessions each. The privilege will not come free though. It will cost $328 if you're a Porsche owner, and $488 otherwise. The driving programme includes braking and slalom exercises, as well as a road tour around Singapore. Approval from the Land Transport Authority will also be required to bring in the special German-registered Porsche World Roadshow fleet. 'Holding it in Singapore makes it more convenient for our customers because they don't have to travel to another country,' says one source. 'It also provides better exposure for the Porsche brand here.' The German sports carmaker does not believe in traditional advertising and uses the roadshow as a form of communication. Such shows are also organised regularly in Taiwan and the Philippines.
