  1. Videos of traffic police checking child passengers’ heights stir road rules debate GVGT It’s normal to see police officers scanning Singapore’s roads at night for speeding motorists or drunk drivers. But to halt vehicles for checks on child passengers’ heights? Not so much. Videos showing traffic police officers stopping drivers in broad daylight to measure the heights of child passengers in their cars surfaced on Facebook yesterday. The unusual sight of officers holding measuring tapes against kids who appeared to be around six years old as the adults looked on had piqued the curiosity of many, with all three clips that were posted racking up over 200,000 views accumulatively. It’s unclear where the checks were taking place. Viewers who commented on the post, shared by Facebook user Huang Jiaxing, pointed out that the officers’ actions seemed to be connected to child safety rules on the road. Those below the height of 1.35m are required in Singapore to use the child seat or approved adjustable seat belts to lower the risk of accidental injury. Taxis, however, are exempted from this requirement as it is considered not “reasonable or practical” for parents to carry child seats wherever they go. But a taxi driver could be fined S$120 and given three demerit points if he or she fails to ensure that the children are in the rear seat. If convicted in court, taxi drivers could be fined up to S$1,000 or jailed for up to three months. These rules have been around at least since 2011 but are rarely seen being enforced by the traffic police. Coconuts Singapore has reached out to the police for more details on why the checks on child passengers are taking place only now. Meanwhile, netizens praised authorities for their “good move” on the apparent efforts to ensure child safety on the roads.

    Grow Height

Was wondering any guys got experience in trying to grow their height after puberty. like after 20s or 30s. notice nowadays 175cm is the average height on the street in northern China, if you don't hit 175cm is considered 半残 half crippled
  3. New research says short people are angrier and more violent than tall people Researchers at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, recently quizzed 600 men aged between 18 and 50 on the perception of male gender, self-image and behavior in relation to drug-taking, violence and crime for a government-led study. The scientists found that men who feel the least masculine are most at risk of committing violent or criminal acts. According to the study, men who considered themselves less masculine, also known as "male discrepancy stress," were nearly three times more likely to have committed violent assaults with a weapon or assaults leading to an injury. A few years ago, a team of researchers at Oxford University also claimed "Short Man Syndrome" is a real thing. They reported that reducing a person's height can increase feelings of vulnerability and also raise levels of paranoia. Also known as the "Napoleon Complex." As modern society becomes more superficial and focused on the body standards for both sexes, height is becoming a taboo topic for many men. It is very possible that these studies included too small of a test group to accurately describe the behavioral tendencies of someone based on their height. Just for clarification, Napoleon was actually 5 feet 7 inches tall, which is basically the average height of our time. And for some perspective, that's an inch taller than movie star Jet Li! 4. Hi, My company is looking for the above for a 2-3 weeks assignment at a construction site in the east. The job is to be present on-site during the operation of a gondola to install a fixture on a 9 storey building. PM me your costs, $$$ and we can discuss from there. Thanks
  5. Hi, I would like to check if it was due to site constrain and the job nature (to dismantle the existing aircon ducting), in order for my workers to move the scaffold to underneath the aircon ducting so just to enable to cut and remove the existing ducting, our workers needed to remove the obstructing railing from the highest platform on the scaffold. However, to prevent falls, our falls prevention measured was to make sure our men's PPE hooks are secured to the scaffold and suspended rod above. my question are, could the above be acceptable as an excuse for removing parts from an approved scaffold? did i violated any rules? TIA
  6. may i know is there a height limit of the goods for a 10FT lorry? iam looking to buy a open top lorry but the height of my goods is about 1.7m in pallet form but will not exceed the weight limit. is height a concern or only weight or both? thanks.
  7. Reminds me of NASA spending millions to develop a pen that could be used in space, while the Russians used pencils! http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/transport/story/height-sensors-go-bukit-timah-road-warn-drivers-tall-vehicles-2014092 Height sensors go up in Bukit Timah Road to warn drivers of tall vehicles By Christopher Tan SINGAPORE - Sensors that warn drivers of tall vehicles that they cannot pass under an overhead structure will be tested along Upper Bukit Timah. When the system senses an approaching vehicle that is too tall, it will start flashing a visual warning to alert the driver that his vehicle may hit the structure. The Land Transport Authority (LTA), which set up the system, said it will try this out for six months and gauge its effectiveness before rolling it out to more locations. The LTA said incidents involving vehicles hitting overhead structures are relatively low but added that a damaged overhead road structure can pose grave danger to all road users.
  8. Guys, i am looking for a Height Adjustable standing table with wheels Something like this http://www.geekdesk.com/geekdesk-v3-frame-only http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0mCxlmO3T7g
  9. It is very sad that we lost 8 maids so far. It is really sad indeed. Most of the time they fall without proper supervision. Should we not ensure that 1. They never clean or do risky jobs without capable supervision and guidance 2. Get them some sort of full body safety belts We avoid cleaning those window areas with high risk of falling - Windows can be dirty rather than losing valuable life.
  10. Hi guys, have you ever hit the top limit bar above the entrance? Maybe we can share the carpark height limit that we need to take note in Singapore. Or do you guys know which "apps" on Android Phone can check the ht limit?
  11. hi guys, just changed to another set of coilovers, does it matter of i do the alignment first or height adjustment first? thanksss
  12. Was at one of the restaurant eating buffet yesterday. Kids will be charged if they are more than 1m height, they are subjected to pay for kids rate. My son is only 3 yo and was asked to pay. I felt unfair as how much a 3yo boy can eat? My wife and I are tall and logically, my kids will have our gene as well. I reason with the waitress and she said it is their in-house rules. Well, not being sarcastic, does it mean that midget will eat for free? Shouldn't rule be changed due to the food and sport the kids eat and play nowaday? Not only did I come across restaurant that goes by height, same it goes to public swimming pool, MRT, cinema etc. Is being tall having the disadvantages? What is the advantage then?
  13. I just collected my alphard. Height is recorded officially as 1.89 metres. Is there a list of Singapore car parks that states their respective height limit? Or rather which are the car parks I got to watch out for? Those that are 1.85m and below.. Can anyone help? Don't want to bang into the ceiling and get stuck..waha..
  14. Saw these similar sized tyres of 3 brands stacked up. Same size but different heights were observed. I masked the brands and ratings given by the dealers so we can focus on the stacked height. Which group of tyres would you choose and why?
  15. This is going to be long but essential, gotten it from another forum in another part of the world...introducing some professional knowledge to the forum, of course, not from me...enjoy... ------------------------------------------------------ Much in hifi is the product of folk lore. However, within reason, speaker placement is not. That's not too say that speaker placement has to follow rigid rules, it doesn't, quite the opposite. But there must be a reference point, and thus a reason for that reference point. That reference point is to start with the speakers at a height where the tweeter is at or about ear level. Toe-in and rear wall reinforcement are separate considerations, and are relative to different speakers. The reason for ear height placement is due to in part to the initial localisation of sound, and from then, the definition of a stereo signal. Localisation occurs in the very first instance of a sound, if the sound reaches the right ear first it is to the right, etc. In order to facilitate/maximise the accuracy of this process, initial sonic reflections should be minimised. In practice, therefore, tweeters need to be at or near ear level, and the speaker toe-in adjusted so that the initial sonic event is correctly localised. The level/requirement of toe is very much dependant upon the listening room (the likelihood of reflection, etc), and the speakers themselves, (the radiation pattern from a speaker baffle being a factor of the baffle size, the drive unit layout, and the crossover, etc). Once localisation has taken effect, stereo separation is reliant upon the fact that there is space between the left and right ears, and thus a time delay in sound from the left reaching the right ear, enabling the brain to perceive that the sound is from the left. Room reverberations/reflections then come in to play with regard to spaciousness, soundstaging, and imaging. There is also an incidental benefit of correct localisation in the Haas effect which prioritises the localised incident sound over reflected sound (assuming enough time between the incident and relected sounds, and that the reflections are of low enough order), and reduces the perception of response deviations that may be caused by said reflections. With respect to tweeter beaming and the resultant sound quality from a tweeter, I agree that the sound is hardly pleasant on it's own. It is, however, critical for initial localisation, and subsequent soundstaging and imaging. Yet, whilst it is true that playing a tweeter alone will result in a poor response, that is irrelevant. The response is from the loudspeaker and it's collection of drive units, which sum to give an overall response, rather than considering the response of an individual drive unit. And this is all the more relevant when crossover types are considered and their consequent effect on phase response and radiation pattern. Now, this essentially pertains to domestic audio, and much is unattainable in an in-car environment. However, the rules apply equally, it just means that real soundstaging and imaging in-car is very difficult. The most common approach to soundstaging in-car is the placement of tweeters at dashboard height. Naturally this brings sound upward from the door/kickwell, but it does not generate a soundstage, and is of little benefit with regard to imaging. Why?. Well, the ear is at it's most sensitive at frequencies at the upper part of the vocal range 1kHz - 3kHz, and tweeters play very little of that range, most being filtered at around 3kHz. Now, at this point many people will say that the output from the tweeter is ultra-directional, and yes it is, but that is actually detrimental when the tweeter is disparate from the mid-bass. Why?. Because the tweeter has an ultra-directional output that the ear localises, and uses as a reference for stereo separation (see above), however, the sensitive vocal frequencies are likely coming from the door or the kickwell. This creates multiple point sources (reflection notwithstanding), and naturally multiple path lengths between each source and the ear, which then create vagaries of phase and time alignment as DaVitch mentioned. As I said, this is difficult to circumvent in-car. One solution is the application of mid-range higher in the car, essentially in place of the ubiquitous tweeter. Why?. Well, as mentioned above, the ear is sensitive to vocal frequencies, and their reproduction higher in the car will improve soundstage height and imaging. Bear in mind that treble remains important, and it cannot be forsaken for mid-range. But, treble must be coincident with mid-range for the effect to work satisfactorily. This can be achieved with coaxial type drive units, or closely placed components (of course, the ease of fitting rather depends on the target vehicle). Such a system then leaves the mid-bass, which is absolutely critical. Mid-bass speakers should be used that have maximal reliable low frequency response, so that low bass output is not concentrated at the rear of the car from a subwoofer. Much is stated about the directionality of low bass, or rather the perceived lack of it, and most of it is nonsense. 80Hz is barely acceptable, lower being extremely beneficial. In many respects the upper end response of the mid-bass is determined by the supplied filtering. However, it is better to apply DIY filtering that limits the onset of directionality from the mid-bass. The transistion into directionality starts when the diameter of the speaker equals half the wavelength. The transition frequency (as with much filtering) can, and often needs, to be tweaked. To run such a system successfully it really needs to be multi-amped and actively filtered. It is also likely that the mid-treble combo will need equalisation, but that depends on their location, and their susceptibility to reflection from glass and other hard surfaces. At the end of the day it is important to know that an in-car system will never stage/image as well as a domestic system. And that includes serious installs featuring path length compensated kick builds and horn loaded mid/tweets. So it is a matter of how far you want/need to go. A set of tweets on the dash is far easier, and will lift the sound. In the majority of cases such a system can be made to sound acceptable, and that is often all that is required.
  16. Came back from Genting Highlands this afternoon. Parked at Resort Hotel MSCP. My Fiat Panorama height is 1.818m, and managed to enter, although forgotten to look out for the height limit. This morning, had to drive thru several levels and downramps to reach the exit. Halfway, at 1 of the level, there was an additional downramp. When our whole vehicle was down the ramp, my wife immediately alerted that "1.6M" was painted on the overhead concrete beam. This was not visible before turning down the ramp. And I took for granted that it is clear all the way. Fortunately, my wife saw it on time, before we crash onto the concrete beam. Reversed up and took the other downramp at the end. So, Panorama/MPV/SUV owners beware.
  17. Anyone knows? Driving a van in. Dunno whether will hit the roof a not.
  18. I observed that cars are being built larger and there are no secret receipt, either the car is being built taller or wider to create the extra space. Do you prefer the car to be wider or taller in the pursuit of spaciousness? without compromsing on look and performance? Regards,
  19. If anyone went IMM today around 430pm, you will notice super jam forming outside. What happened at 4:30pm. 1. I was 2 cars away from a lorry that looked suspiciously tall to clear the height limit barrier towards level 2. 2. True to my speculation, it failed to clear barrier. Instead, it dragged down the barrier causing it to fall nicely to block entry to level 2. 3. Level 1 became the only parking space for cars coming in. Anyone else witnessed this saga? Wonder what will happen to the lorry driver...
  20. As above. prefer west side. Reputable shops in JB also can i don't need to do alignment. Just need to adjust height, then let the car "settle in" before going in to my usual JB tyre shop for alignment. intend to lower my BC coils to lowest (or near lowest) setting i got these from FK less than a yr ago btw, already adjusted height once after installation so not sure if he will do it again for me FOC. besides, it's in the east side, same distance as JB is for me
  21. Today saw another one of those light lorries with added shelter height more than twice the height of its width. From the looks of it, its CG is well out of place and I suspect when turning corners, its more likely to tilt over. Very dangerous looking Doesn't TP or LTA forbid modification to add height to existing roof/shelter of lorries/pickup anymore? or is there a change of rules? just like allowing bangla to sit behind speeding lorries? Have also seen a number of tipper truck that fills its rear with some furnitures or waste metals beyond its rim and top, especially around Tuas area. Even saw one last week with furnitures stacked such that the height of rubbish is twice its normal height. Reminds me of streets of india where everything goes. It feels very intimidating to follow behind them, in case one of the metals falls. Cannot imagine what will happen if this happens. Has LTA or TP took note of these "new" vehicles on the road lately? Are these modification now allow

  23. I am planning to lower the ride height of my accent to make it look cooler.. how do i go about doing this?
  24. Hi, Is it normal to have different gap from the fender to the tires? For my rear right the gap is 2 fingers, for my rear left the gap is 3 fingers. I checked it on level ground. Is this normal? I had just change the shock and spring.
  25. Hi all, While adjusting my coilover height today, I noticed that the front left and front right has 5mm difference. 3 ways I measure, which is the most accurate ? 1) From top of strut tower to spring perch (see attachment) 2) From bottom of screw thread to lower spring perch 3) From center top wheel arch to the floor (According to TEIN measurement is top of wheelarch to center of rim, but I just measure to floor easier) I am currently using #3, and ensure the 2 sides are of the same height. Question is, am I right ? However, some people mentioned that 5mm is too "minimal" to be bothered.
