French tourist fined for stealing $32,800 handbag AsiaOne Wednesday, Sep 19, 2012 SINGAPORE - A French tourist has been fined $8,000 for the theft of a luxury handbag from a Marina Bay Sands (MBS) store. Olivia Lemercier Maurice, 42, was on holiday with her family in Singapore when she stole the Ralph Lauren Ricky Alligator 33 branded bag worth $32,800 at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. She pleaded guilty to the theft of the honey brown-coloured bag last Wednesday. The police had received a report of the theft on July 30. The mother of two was subsequently arrested at Changi Airport after preliminary investigations. According to The Straits Times, the prosecution asked for a jail sentence due to the high value of the item stolen. However, her lawyer Raymond Lye asked for a fine instead as the French national was suffering from kleptomania, an impulsive disorder to steal things, at that time. He said the theft was an impulsive act due to the illness. Mr Lye also added that the 42-year-old homemaker had spent a week in remand. He argued that it would be unjust to give her a jail instead of probation just because she was a foreigner. After the sentencing, Maurice flew back to France with her husband. She could have been given a sentence of up to three years' jail and a fine. [email protected]

Nowadays criminals really have many excuses. There was also a local woman who was caught and released a few times by claiming to be a kleptomaniac. Another infamous excuse is bi-polar / depression. Next time I get caught for speeding, maybe I should say I am a speedophile?

If your GF ask you to carry her handbag, will you do so? Why or why not?

Just witnessed an auntie's bag got snatched away while she was pumping at a petrol kiosk in jb At first I thought the biker accident hit the auntie's shoulder or something until she started to shout then only i realised he's a robber. a guy gave chase and i tried to block the biker with my car but it was too late then the auntie was in shock and kept crying so i brought her to the nearby petrol station and assisted her to make a police report because she couldn't speak malay very well and could not speak english either. have to help her to cancel all her credit cards and ATM cards also because all lines that i called to cancel whatever card it is didn't have mandarin operators so i ended up have to act as a translator between the phone operators and the auntie so my advise to all females, Please DO NOT use handbags in malaysia, it's really risky

After done shopping for a BD present for a guy friend, my female companion stopped by a shoe shop to shop. Seeing her hands filling up with shoes, I then offer to help her carry her handbag for a while. She refused and comment she would never let a guy carry her bag for her. Even for a short trip to the ladies, however she think it is ok to let a fellow female help carry for a while. Her comment is she can't stand guys who carry handbag for their GF. I however think it is Ok if the need arise. I thought it is conservative to think guy should be touching a ladies' handbag, but my friend turned again and said those who are ask their guy friends (or BF) to carry their handbags are conservative. Sounds like a topic here, so what do you all here thinks. Fact: We are old friends, not in a relationship.
