  1. https://www.straitstimes.com/life/entertainment/alec-baldwin-fired-prop-gun-that-killed-woman-on-film-set-us-police American actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun that killed a cinematographer and wounded the director on a film set in New Mexico, United States law enforcement officers said on Thursday (Oct 21). The incident happened on the set of Rust in the southwestern United States state, where Baldwin is playing the lead in a 19th-century western. Halyna Hutchins and Joel Souza "were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin", the sheriff in Santa Fe said in a statement. Hutchins, 42, was transported to hospital by helicopter but died of her wounds, while Souza, 48, was taken by ambulance and is receiving treatment. No charges have been filed over the incident, which is being investigated, with witness interviews ongoing. A spokesman from the production told The Hollywood Reporter the "accident" involved the misfire of a prop gun with blanks. A sheriff's spokesman told the publication that the director was in "critical condition". The incident took place at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a production location near Santa Fe which is popular with Hollywood filmmakers. Movie sets usually have stringent rules over the use of prop weapons, but accidents have happened. Most famously, actor Brandon Lee, the son of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, died during filming of The Crow (1994) after being shot by a gun that was supposed to fire blanks. Baldwin co-produces the film and stars as Harland Rust, an outlaw whose grandson is convicted of murder, and who goes on the run with him when the boy is sentenced to hang for the crime.
  2. Multiple people have been shot in a Brooklyn subway station and several undetonated devices were also found at the location, according to fire officials and law enforcement sources. They stress the investigation is preliminary. The extent of the victims' injuries wasn't clear. The FDNY says it responded to a call for smoke at the 36th Street and Fourth Avenue station, which serves the D, N and R lines in Sunset Park around 8:30 a.m. and found multiple gunshot victims. No details were immediately available on the devices. Information on a possible suspect also wasn't immediately known. Several law enforcement sources say a man possibly dressed in clothing that resembles those worn by MTA workers threw some sort of device and opened fire. Some of the wounded jumped on another train to flee to the next station, the sources said. More pictures here. 3. Putting the safety concerns aside, I find this pistol damn cool. 😅 Real pistol that looks like Lego toy sparks controvery in US https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/real-pistol-gun-lego-toy-sparks-controvery-us-glock-block19-15216284 The Block19 semi-automatic weapon has a strong resemblance to a Lego toy. WASHINGTON: A US gun maker has triggered controversy by selling a kit that makes a real Glock pistol look like a children's Lego toy gun, at a time when hundreds of kids are falling victim to shootings. The colourful brick design gives the semi-automatic weapon a strong resemblance to a Lego toy. The gun maker was marketing it as a Block19, which sold for between US$549 and US$765. The Danish manufacturer of the building blocks has sent the Utah-based company, Culper Precision, a demand to stop producing the red, blue and yellow covering for handguns. "Our organisation reached out to Lego, which then sent a cease and desist letter to the reckless gun maker," said Shannon Watts, founder of the group Moms Demand Action, which advocates for stricter gun controls. Watts, who stressed that "unintentional shootings have risen by 30 per cent in the past year", told the Washington Post her first reaction upon seeing the gun was that it was "sick and children would die". She said that in 2021 there had been more than 165 accidental shootings by children in the US, according to the organisation Everytown. Last year, 142 people died as a result of accidental discharges by children or minors, the same group said.
  4. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/police-shooting-balestier-suspect-attacked-officer-nov-5- SINGAPORE: A man was shot by a police officer during a raid on a residential unit along Balestier Road on Thursday (Nov 5), the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said. Three plainclothes officers entered the unit at City Suites condominiumat about 1am on Thursday as part of operations to track down suspects involved in a series of cheating cases. Four people were in the flat: A 36-year-old man, a 22-year-old man, a 33-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman. Preliminary investigations showed that while the officers were in the unit, the 36-year-old man “suddenly lunged” at one of the officers and attacked him repeatedly, causing the officer to fall on the floor bleeding from the face, SPF said. A second officer warned the man to stop the assault but he did not. The 22-year-old man was then seen approaching the officer who was attacked, and the second police officer “assessed” that he would join the older man in assaulting the police officer. “Concerned with the safety of his partner, the second officer immediately drew his revolver and warned the (36-year-old man) to stop his assault,” said the police in a news release. The man did not comply with the warning and continued to hit the officer on the floor. Suddenly, he rushed towards the second officer and grabbed his revolver, said SPF. The 22-year-old man then assaulted the first officer, the police added. During the brawl, the second officer “discharged one round” from his revolver at the 36-year-old man. “This did not immediately stop (the 36-year-old man) from his attempt to snatch the second officer’s revolver and the struggle continued," said SPF. Both men were eventually subdued by backup officers who later arrived at the unit. The 36-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was attended to by paramedics before he was taken conscious to hospital. He is currently in a stable condition, SPF said. Two police officers were injured. The first sustained injuries to his face and arm, while the second officer sustained injuries to his hands and lips. The third officer attended to the suspect. The first and second officers felt their lives were under threat, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cheong Chee Ming, who is Tanglin Division commander, said during a press conference on Thursday. As a matter of protocol, the Special Investigation Section is investigating the officer’s discharge of the firearm.
  5. What it's like for one teacher who already carries a gun Karl Donnelson is a science teacher in Colorado In the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, there's a debate growing about what to do to protect students from shootings. President Trump said he's interested in arming teachers and other school personnel -- an idea backed by the National Rifle Association. At least four states are considering legislation that would allow educators to carry a concealed firearm in schools. Eight states already do. "I just signed up to teach kids since," said Karl Donnelson, a teacher in Colorado. "As you can see, with all my other jobs sometimes you have to do additional things at small schools, and this is one of them." Donnelson sat down with CBS News' Nikki Battiste to explain what it's like to carry a gun, while also working as a teacher. "If you're gonna protect the kids, why not give them a tool to protect them with," he said. Nikki Battiste: How long have you been a science teacher? Karl Donnelson: This is my third year. Battiste: How long have you been armed in your classroom? Donnelson: This is my first year. Battiste: What kind of gun is it? Donnelson: It's a glock, 9 millimeter. Battiste: It's concealed carry. Donnelson: Correct. Battiste: Where is your firearm? Donnelson: Can I show it to you? Battiste: Yes, please. In your cowboy boot? Donnelson: That's why I wear boots. Battiste: You didn't used to wear boots? Donnelson: No. Battiste: Is this gun loaded? Donnelson: There's nothin' in the chamber. The school board would not allow for us to put one in the chamber. Donnelson volunteered to carry a gun in his classroom, he's one of about 100 armed staff in schools across Colorado. Battiste: If you heard gunshots right now, what would you do? Donnelson: Lockdown, immediately, all the classes will have their locked doors. I would run towards the gunfire. Try to find out who it is and take care of it. Battiste: If an active shooter were to come in, you have to make a split life-or-death decision. Donnelson: Correct. Battiste: Are you ready for that? Donnelson: Yes. My biggest fear is missing and hitting a student. But that's the risk you take by carrying a gun. May I miss? Yeah, possibly. But would you rather have 50 kids killed or one? Colorado law prohibits firearms in schools, but a loophole lets districts designate armed safety officers. Armed teachers are required to pass a three-day firearms and trauma response course, which includes a simulated school shooting scenario. Battiste: How often are you being re-trained or refreshing? Donnelson: Every semester we go in and shoot the 100 percent qualification. Fifty-five percent of Colorado voters favored allowing teachers and school officials to carry guns on school grounds, according to a 2015 Quinnipiac poll. CBS News sat down with other teachers who are having the same discussion. Some admit they had mixed feelings when it first came up. "They could shoot our whole building up before we would ever have anybody get here for help," one teacher said. "As a human being, it was very saddening to me that that's what this has come to," another teacher added. Despite warning signs in front of the school, parents and staff are not told who is armed. Battiste: Do you think they have a right to know? Donnelson: That's up to the school board, administration, and if anybody asks me I tell 'em. Battiste: A lot of people would say this is a terrible idea. Donnelson: Yeah, and that's their opinion, and I respect it. But I think our community wants our students protected. We can't afford security guards, and if teachers are willing to and go through the training I think they should have the opportunity to help protect 'em. Battiste: What is the answer to keep our kids? Donnelson: There is no answer, and i'm not sayin' we're gonna stop school violence by havin' teachers with weapons, but at least it's a good start. So there is no answer, but this is what we decided as a community and as a school district. The school has other armed staff. Each had to pass a background check and a psychological evaluation. The superintendent says other schools considering arming their staffs have reached out to him for guidance. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/what-its-like-for-one-teacher-who-already-carries-a-gun/

  8. If you want to find footages showing the most temperamental people on planet Earth, Russia is definitely the way to go. There have been numerous videos spread on the World Wide Web showing how messed up things in the country are. As a matter of fact, don't you even wonder how it functions as a country after watching those videos? Yet again, it seems that the people living there just never learn or they simply don't want to change. A video has been filmed again recently, showing how simply passing the road can turn into a fight that involves fists and even guns altogether in the middle of the city traffic! Therefore, even if you have the money to go and live in Russia, I would say that you better not think about it. Whereas road rage will turn into horns honking at most on our shores, the Russians aren't the type that takes things lightly, that's for sure.
