Official records show that Huang Junfu moved to Malaysia in 1950 and then Singapore A 103-year-old woman from Guizhou, China, who spent more than 80 years waiting for her husband to return after he went missing abroad, passed away on 8th March. Local media reported that Du Huzhen’s husband, Huang Junfu, disappeared in 1952, leaving her to live out her life in hope that he would one day return, as he had promised. Du married Huang in 1940, and the couple had one son, Huang Fachang, who predeceased her in 2022. Just three months into their marriage, Huang joined the military and moved frequently due to his assignments. In 1943, Du briefly joined him in Meitan County but returned to her hometown to give birth. In 1944, Du gave birth to their son, but Huang only met his child once during a brief visit to attend his mother’s funeral. Afterward, he left again to participate in military recruitment in Zunyi and never came back. His final letter, dated 15th January, 1952, marked the last communication Du ever received from him. Despite the silence, she remained steadfast, often saying, “He promised he’d come back. I’ll wait until my last moment.” Du’s granddaughter shared that her grandmother, though illiterate and living a challenging life, maintained an optimistic outlook. She worked tirelessly on farming tasks during the day and wove cloth and crafted straw shoes at night. Throughout her life, she emphasised education, urging her descendants to contribute positively to society. A document issued by the Zunyi County Government’s Overseas Chinese Affairs Office revealed that Huang had settled in Malaysia in 1950 and later moved to Singapore.
