  2. In the last two years, degree holders here have found themselves the most vulnerable to losing their jobs, among all qualification groups. Since 2011, they have also made up a higher proportion of residents made redundant than among all resident workers. Experts suggested three reasons for this - jobs lost in restructuring tending to be held by graduates, greater demand for non-academic skills, and substitution by skilled foreign labour. "As more graduates become available, it brings about more friction in the job-matching process," said UniSIM economist Randolph Tan. "Many graduates think that getting a degree is the pinnacle of achievement, but what they don't realise is that the workplace demands much more of them." 5. I think self-development and virtues is more important than always thinking about money. Socrates agreed too. Socrates believed the best way for people to live was to focus on self-development rather than the pursuit of material wealth. He always invited others to try to concentrate more on friendships and a sense of true community, for Socrates felt this was the best way for people to grow together as a populace. His actions lived up to this: in the end, Socrates accepted his death sentence when most thought he would simply leave Athens, as he felt he could not run away from or go against the will of his community; as mentioned above, his reputation for valor on the battlefield was without reproach. The idea that humans possessed certain virtues formed a common thread in Socrates' teachings. These virtues represented the most important qualities for a person to have, foremost of which were the philosophical or intellectual virtues. Socrates stressed that "virtue was the most valuable of all possessions; the ideal life was spent in search of the Good. Truth lies beneath the shadows of existence, and it is the job of the philosopher to show the rest how little they really know."
  6. I have never won any contests, trophies or awards. Nowhere near making my first million, no Ferrari, no property in a posh district. Don't know any famous people and never invited to any happening events either. Just an anonymous nobody living a middling existence. I think my greatest accomplishment is taking mediocrity to the stratosphere.
  7. Me, getting married without giving it much thought.

  11. The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, usually just called the "Iditarod", is an annual sled dog race in Alaska, where mushers and teams of typically 16 dogs cover 1,161 miles (1868 km) in eight to fifteen days from Willow (near Anchorage) to Nome. The Iditarod began in 1973 as an event to test the best sled dog mushers and teams, evolving into the highly competitive race it is today. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iditarod_Trail_Sled_Dog_Race http://www.iditarod.com/ Google Earth Trail
  12. WHAT TEACHERS MAKE The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, 'What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?' He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: 'Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.' To stress his point he said to another guest; 'You're a teacher, Bonnie. Be honest. What do you make?' Bonnie, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, 'You want to know what I make? (She paused for a second, then began...) 'Well, I make kids work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the Congressional Medal of Honor. I make kids sit through 40 minutes of class time when their parents can't make them sit for 5 without an I Pod, Game Cube or movie rental. You want to know what I make?' (She paused again and looked at each and every person at the table.) ''I make kids wonder. I make them question. I make them apologize and mean it. I make them have respect and take responsibility for their actions. I teach them to write and then I make them write. Keyboarding isn't everything. I make them read, read, read. I make them show all their work in math. They use their God given brain, not the man-made calculator. I make my students from other countries learn everything they need to know in English while preserving their unique cultural identity. I make my classroom a place where all my students feel safe. I make my students stand, placing their hand over their heart to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, One Nation Under God, because we live in the United States of America. Finally, I make them understand that if they use the gifts they were given, work hard, and follow their hearts, they can succeed in life.' (Bonnie paused one last time and then continued.) 'Then, when people try to judge me by what I make, with me knowing money isn't everything, I can hold my head up high and pay no attention because they are ignorant... You want to know what I make? I MAKE A DIFFERENCE . What do you make Mr. CEO?' His jaw dropped, he went silent. THIS IS WORTH SENDING TO EVERY TEACHER YOU KNOW. Even all your personal teachers like mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, grandparents, your spiritual teachers --------

  16. Hehe just wondering if such a person/service exist? Generally most stickers/decal design we see on cars are following templates from a catalog (which renders your car design non-unique) and/or pasting brands of car marques and motorsports products. Say the customer provides the necessary stuffs like company logo, colors, slogans etc, is there such a designer who would analyse and come up with a complete, unique and aesthetically-pleasing design of the car's stickers/decals based on a certain concept, theme, the car model and base colour - to be discussed and signed-off by the customer before implementation. Basically like the engagement process with a high-end web/graphics designer. I'm not talking about those 'customized' company design which makes the car look like some delivery van. If there's such a person/shop, I know is subjective but can the forummers here recommend some famous ones with a good portfolio of works?
  17. Recently at a family gathering, a relative of my wife who drives a VW Passat told me that if he had known that the Skoda Octavia is really a VW under the bonnet, he would have bought the Octavia instead. He said the Octavia is a really nice looking car and furthermore, he would have saved himself a lot of $$$ and gotten essentially the same thing. I thought I should share this with all fellow Skoda owners as I think it is the greatest compliment we can get.
