https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/could-cancellation-chinese-new-year-bazaar-chinatown-have-been-avoided The author of this article is asking the obvious question. U can still get your cny goodies without goin to the bazaar n i think its absolutely sensible to cancel the bazaar becuz theres no way to prevent overcrowding u can manage/regulate the number of people goin to the bazaar but there will be a long string of queue n thats still overcrowding geylang serai bazaar/christmas bazaars all cancelled so i dun see why we chinese would feel that we are entitled to have our cny bazaar in the middle of a pandemic where covid-19 is still raging around the world and even our closest neighbours i am appreciate that living in Singapore almost feel like living in a bubble enough of my lor soh..... where is everyone getting your cny goodies from? i usually get from Gin Thye this year wife also ordering pineapple tarts from home bakeries some misc stuff we intend to get from ntuc or sheng siong early to avoid overcrowding closer to cny

During Chinese New Year, we will definitely buy some Chinese New Year goodies, aka snacks, junk food, etc, to serve our relatives and friends when they come to your house for visits during this period, or for won consumption. Some families will buy a lot of these goodies because of sales and some will buy very less, as to not to waste food and money. The common food that people will buy for Chinese New Year are snacks like pineapple tarts, kuek lapis, egg rolls/love letters, Bak kua, packet/canned drinks and other food like canned abalones, dried mushrooms and fish maws, sao la, etc. For those who buy a lot, they will take months to finish, even months after the 2 week Chinese New Year celebrations. For those who buy too little, the food is almost finished even before the first day of Chinese New Year celebration starts. How long do you take to finish your Chinese New Year goodies and food?

As usual, most of us would have alot of goodies leftover. Wondering what to do with it? Fret not, this year, you don't have to throw those unopened ones away. Neither do you have to force yourself to pack it for your tea time snack. Check out link and donate for a good cause.

OK.... who also promise "more good years ahead" and "Swiss Standard of Living" ........ CNA: Don't turn elections into auction of "goodies" says Minister Khaw Boon Wan SINGAPORE: National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan on Monday (June 2) warned against turning elections into an auction between political parties promising voters as much "goodies" as they can, with as low taxes as possible. He made this point during a dialogue at the joint World Cities Summit, Singapore International Water Week and CleanEnviro Summit. The topic of financing rapid urbanisation came up. Mr Angel Gurria, the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development had raised that a common way of financing urban growth is through taxes such as consumption tax, property taxes, or green taxes. Mr Khaw said it is natural for people to want more, but not want to pay higher taxes for it. He said political parties should not take advantage of this. "In all honesty, we must acknowledge most of our people would always want more, but would never want to pay more in taxes, and it's incumbent upon our part to be honest with our voters, because if every election is a mere auction between political parties to give as much goodies as they can with as little taxes they need to pay, I think democracy of that manner must lead to insolvency and eventually, political cynicism." Mr Khaw added there is no shortage of money to finance the development of infrastructure - the problem is a lack of sustainable good ideas which will benefit all sectors in a country. He said, as long as projects are bankable, there will be no shortage of funding. However, it is inevitable that governments may need to help finance some projects in order to help the poorer segments of the population. Mr Khaw also shared with delegates some lessons that Singapore has learnt. One is the importance of keeping the economy open. He stressed that protectionism has no place in Singapore. This is because in the case of Singapore, its domestic market is too small. Still, some observers say being small may have its advantages. Said CEO of Suez Environment Company, Mr Jean-Louis Chaussade: “Small cities are much easier to manage than very big cities where the problems are really complex due to the size. It's less in terms of technology; it's easier in terms of human resources, and human cooperation." However, Singapore faces additional challenges because it is a city-state. "Because the state consists of only one city, if the city fails, the country fails. So, for example, Detroit may be bankrupt but there are many other American cities can continue to prosper and America remains a major global power," explained Mr Khaw. Mr Khaw added that as a small city state without a natural hinterland, Singapore will feel the impact of globalisation more acutely. - CNA/xk link: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/don-t-turn-elections-into/1133560.html hmmmm........... no shortage of money to finance the development of infrastructure. But WHY keep extending CPF minimum sum and retirement age ?

Goodies are coming fast and furious. There can only be one reason............HUAT AH! Older Singaporeans to receive medisave top-up Wed, Sep 15, 2010 AsiaOne About 1.1 million Singaporeans aged 50 and above will receive a one-off top-up to their Medisave Accounts ranging from $200 to $500. The higher amounts will go to those who are older and less well-off. This measure was announced earlier this year during Budget 2010, and is aimed at helping older Singaporeans with their healthcare expenses. The CPF Board will be sending letters to eligible Singaporeans from today to inform them of the amounts they will receive. Singaporeans who are CPF members and have earlier signed up for the GST Credits, will receive the top-up automatically and there is no need to sign up again for the Medisave Top-Up. They can expect the top-ups on September 30. Eligible Singaporeans who do not have CPF Accounts and have not signed up for their GST Credits are reminded to do so by December 31 to receive the Medisave Top-Up. They can check their eligibility and sign up via the GST website: www.gstoffset.gov.sg. Alternatively, they can also sign up by completing the GST sign-up form available at all Community Centres, Community Development Council offices or CPF Service Centres For further information, please visit www.cpf.gov.sg or call 1800-2222-888.

Dear all There is a closing down sale going on at this address: 55 Ubi Ave 1 #02-04/05/06. Look for Alan 90224518. This is a shop in Ubi 55 selling lightings and a small corner selling some car stuff. Mostly for Mercedes, chrome trimmings, shift knobs for all cars at $10. Some rims at very unbelievable prices. Carlsson for $200/pc 18", two pieces left. 2 pcs ah, Not 2 sets! Another brand Lenzer or something like that for $399/pc neg. They said they have about 4 sets left for the 3 designs of that brand. From Germany. Remember negotiable. Press for lowest price. They are really eager to sell. 'Tiao Lao' prices, man. I was tempted to get a few sets to sell off to earn something but figured it's not a wise choice. But i think these rims pcd would fit Beemers and Mercs. I think they are 118x5 or 120x5. All 18" or 17" x 8". Saw one of the model pcd was 35. Ridiculous prices. Please call b4 you go down to check stock availability. So if you own a beemer or a Mercedes and you are thinking of changing your wheels, go on down take a look, it's worth it. It's not the best looking rims but at least when you trade them in in future for something else, you'll be fetching a better price than you paid for. I can vouch for that, I've been there. Though these wheels dun fit me, they are tempting! Imagine 18"x8"! I want! But I'm satisfied with my current rims now. Just wanted to share some good news with all car-minded friends. Good luck searching. Lester
