  1. Hi all, I'm sure a lot of bros and sis out there wear glasses, so am asking for recommendations as I'm not very knowledgeable in this area. Need to make another pair of glasses but there seems to be so many different shops around so don't quite know where to go. Am looking for light and durable glasses, and reliable optician. I was told titanium was lightest previously. Is it still the case now? Last did a pair 4 years ago, and since then have been using smart phones so now eyes getting blurrer… so better get another pair. Anyone tried those progressive lens? Got 'far-sighted' at this age too, so heard some said progressive can cater to both - but apparently can make the eyes confused and blurred is it? And i saw somewhere before got some design that allows a pair of sunglasses to wrap nicely onto a pair of prescription glasses. It's not just those generic types sold at petrol stations but is fitting nicely and comes in a set one. But it's not common as I think I've only seen it once. Anyone tried this before? Figured it would be good when driving. tks...
  2. TLDR: Astigmatism giving me a hard time driving in bad weather at night. Driving at night I realised I've been seeing halos/star-burst like effects/glares around traffic lights but didn't think much of it till one day it just occured to me that I may have astig. I also thought those were normal glares caused by the windscreen. I don't wear glasses and I've always had the impression that I have perfect vision but probably not so perfect anymore. It doesn't really affect my ability to drive but it does get a lot worse in bad weather. Does astig worsens with time and is getting glasses a solution? Or do you just live with the condition?

  4. https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Health-Care/Brain-stimulating-glasses-to-fight-dementia-Japanese-companies-say?utm_campaign=GL_JP_update&utm_medium=email&utm_source=NA_newsletter&utm_content=article_link&del_type=4&pub_date=20210908085958&seq_num=5&si=44594 Brain-stimulating glasses to fight dementia, Japanese companies say Drugmaker Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma aims to start clinical trials in two years A number of drugs have been developed to treat dementia, but devices are rare. (Photo by Akira Kodaka) SOSUKE KARINO, Nikkei staff writerSeptember 8, 2021 03:01 JST OSAKA -- A Japanese drugmaker has teamed with a startup to develop a wearable device like eyeglasses that the companies hope to use to treat dementia symptoms. Light-emitting diodes in the frame will shine violet light -- which lies at the high end of the visible spectrum -- into the wearer's eyes for several hours a day, stimulating parts of the brain including the frontal lobe and hippocampus. The light will be nearly invisible to the wearer, letting them go on with their everyday activities, according to developers Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma and Tsubota Laboratory, founded at Keio University. While a number of drugs have been developed to fight dementia -- including Aduhelm, an Alzheimer's treatment from Eisai and Biogen recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration -- devices are rare in this field of medicine. Clinical trials are expected to begin as early as the fiscal year ending March 2024 with the goal of bringing the product on the market two years after that, the companies said. Violet light makes up part of sunlight. With a wavelength of around 360 nanometers to 400 nanometers, it lies just before ultraviolet light in the spectrum.
  5. Parents in Indonesia give toddler 5 glasses of coffee every day because they're too poor to buy milk https://www.asiaone.com/asia/parents-indonesia-give-toddler-5-glasses-coffee-every-day-because-theyre-too-poor-buy-milk?xtor=EREC-16-4[Emarsys_Newsletter]-20190919&extid=6934d0cfb7b252f1ae9f0dbddf5ff88ca8637e77 At first glance, Khadijah Haura looks just like any other toddler her age. At 2 years old, she is capable of walking on her own and actively plays to a point that her parents could not find the time to sleep. What sets her apart from many other kids, however, is that she has been consuming coffee instead of milk since she was 6 months old. Khadijah's parents, Sarifuddin and Anita -- residents of Tonro Lima village in Polewali Mandar, West Sulawesi, had no other choice but feed their daughter with five glasses, equal to 1.5 liters, of kopi tubruk, or brewed coffee. Anita and her husband, who worked as copra peelers, said they could not afford to buy milk given that their daily income of Rp 20,000 (S$2) could barely cover their expenses. "We can't do anything else. Our income is not enough to buy milk. We're forced to feed her coffee every day. She can't even sleep if she doesn't drink coffee; she'd cry asking for it before sleep," Anita told reporters at her house on Saturday, as reported by kompas.com. Both Anita and Sarifuddin said they solely relied on peeling copra for a living, besides helping lift rice from the fields during harvest season, through which they could earn some more money. On their lucky days, Anita and her husband could earn up to Rp 40,000 per day from peeling copra, but that was only if there were coconuts to be processed into copra. Otherwise, they would have to rest at home until there were enough coconuts to be processed. Anita couldn't help but express her concerns over her daughter's health, adding that she had never received milk or nutrition assistance from the local health agency. Polewali Mandar Health Agency's community health development head Mandaria Saleh said the agency had run a health check up on the toddler and found no abnormality in her growth and development. She noted, however, that the caffeine and sugar intake could harm the toddler in the long run. "We've asked the parents and the family of Khadijah not to continue with the coffee consumption. The health agency has distributed milk and complementary food assistance such as biscuits so that Khadijah could drink milk again and grow healthily like others her age," Mandaria said.

  10. Hi, I am sure many have heard of transition lens. Has anyone heard of a substitute transition lens? I was at this spectacle shop and the salesgirl was telling me about something "photo frame" (not sure if i have heard correctly). Is "photo frame" supposed to be good? Is it a perfect substitute for transition lens? Thanks for the replies.
