i starting a new thread for ppl to post comments or test drives of this car. constructive ones. dun just give sweeping statements. here goes, i was bored on this sunday afternoon and decided to go window shopping for cars. burning with curiousity about this new geeely mk, i drove all the way down from jurong to ubi to take a look and have a test drive. firstly, the male se who attended to me was very nice, not pushy etc. much better than a lot of other SEs i encountered. In the showroom, general comments: Looks: esp with the bodykit. looks big and sporty. Interior size: not as good. almost as big as the previous generation vios but bigger than CK. Doors close solidly, rather unexpected. build quality in general much better than the CK. seats a bit soft for my liking. the sports version comes with cubic printing which makes look classier. I think that this is a very respectable quality from a new car manufacturer.. but after that i popped by toyota to feel the vios and compare. the vios has a much bigger interior. build quality, needless to say much better. i enquired about the engine and the SE said it is using the re-tuned engine of CK. essentially they are the same engine but MK's sound and perform better. He mentioned that the engine is licensed from toyota and is the one found in toyota soluna. FC should be v.good based on the engine. one thing to note, after buying the car, you need to change the timing belt at 12,000KM! i dug deeper why, and he hinted that they using recon parts but said that the first servicing plus timing belt change only about $190. next is the test drive. engine sound typically toyota, but not as refined as the ones in previous gen corolla and vios. engine very responsive, free reving but noisy. suspension and brake are quite ok. but the steering is horrible. extremely stiff and "not smooth" i dun really know how to describe. go try it yourself. overall, quite satified with the drive. exceeds my expectation by a huge margin after trying its chery counterparts. Now, would I buy it? No. why? Price. Lets see... Oh they only have manual version currently. the OMV is about $10k. Basic one cost $49,999. Sports version (with bodykit etc etc) cost $53799. COE rebate set at $8k but there's this line "Note that COE rebates is packed at a ceiling of $3000 maximum." WTH?! current promotion is 1yr insurance from AIG free. 3yr 100000km warranty. lets compare with another car.. singaporean's fav vios (not that i like toyotas but its just that i'm there today.) lets compare...using vios 1.5E manual version. OMV: about $12.5k $54,488 COE rebate level: $12,000 wad you get extra: 5yrs/140000km warranty, 1 extra airbag, free 3M solar film (without any bargaining. Based on OMV and COE rebate alone, Vios is "cheaper". now, what is group exklusiv thinking?
