Source: https://www.arenaev.com/mercedes_teases_electric_gclass-news-2786.php Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to revolutionize the iconic G-Class with an all-electric variant, and CEO Ola Kaellenius claims it could outshine its traditional counterpart in off-road prowess. In an outdoor video featuring the electric G-Class, Kaellenius, along with chief engineer Fabian Schossau, shed light on the vehicle's development and unique features. Four years have passed since Mercedes-Benz's initial announcement of an electric G-Class, and much remained shrouded in mystery - until today. Today we got a closer look at the electric G and its off-road capabilities - cue the video: One glance at the electric G-Wagon, and you'd be hard-pressed to miss its signature boxy silhouette. Kaellenius proudly states that this electric incarnation retains the unmistakable appearance of a true G-Class. While the video's prototype was camouflaged, Mercedes-Benz had previously unveiled the Concept EQG in 2021, offering a glimpse of the essential design elements. For rigorous testing, the development team headed to the Schoeckl mountain in Graz, Austria - the very place where the G-Class was born. The electric off-roader underwent a grueling regimen, ascending and descending the mountain 336 times. It showcased its off-road prowess thanks to a novel drivetrain concept featuring four electric motors, one at each wheel. Smart software managed torque distribution, enabling remarkable off-road capabilities, including a G-turn. Mercedes is not just focusing on off-road capabilities; it's also pushing the envelope in battery technology. The electric G-Class will employ a cutting-edge silicon anode battery, expected to boost energy density by 20 to 40% compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries. This advancement could substantially extend the vehicle's range, a crucial factor for electric off-roaders. The G-Class is known for its ruggedness and has a cult following. The electric variant's potential to match or even surpass the traditional model in off-road capabilities is a significant point of interest. It marks a notable shift in the automotive landscape towards electrification without compromising on performance. While purists may raise their eyebrows at the notion of an electric G-Class, Kaellenius assures them that the traditional ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) version will continue alongside the electric variant. This dual approach ensures that fans of the iconic off-roader can still experience the roaring power of a gasoline engine. One detail that remains elusive is the exact release date for the electric Mercedes-Benz G-Class. However, industry watchers speculate that it could hit the market in 2024, likely as a 2025 model-year offering.
  2. Because this is MCF so this must be posted here. If you're not receiving a G63 from your wife for your birthday, you know you got married to the wrong one! 🤤 https://www.asiaone.com/lifestyle/hot-wheels-tan-jianhao-stunned-after-receiving-1m-mercedes-dream-car-wife Is this Choa Sax from MCF?
  3. Source: https://www.motor1.com/photo/6090231/mercedes-benz-concept-eqg-rear-view/ It's a near-production version of the future EQG off-roader. The moment has finally arrived. Mercedes-Benz is pushing hard towards electrification and its iconic G-Class is no exception. The vehicle you see here isn't the one you'll be able to buy in the future, but it's close. Mercedes calls this the Concept EQG – a near-production version of the forthcoming EQG and a vision of what an electrified G-Class will be like. It certainly looks like a G-Class, and purists will be happy to know it should be just as rugged. A ladder frame still underpins the boxy body, riding on independent suspension in front with a solid axle at the rear. The greenhouse sits tall, the bulky spare tire carrier holds station at the back, door handles are prominent on the sides, and round headlights illuminate the way forward. Even at the quickest of glances, there's no mistaking this for a G-Class. It's clearly a very different G-Class, however. Without an engine under the hood, the bold G-Class grille becomes an illuminated Black Panel Grille on the Concept EQG. Illuminated blue squares create a faux grille appearance, with the three-pointed star in the middle lit up in a 3D effect. A white border completes the grille facade, with more LED daytime lights circling the headlights. You'll find even more LED illumination on the sides, incorporated into the Concept EQG's protective strips. The flat roof incorporates an LED light bar at the front and a third brake light at the back. 22-inch wheels with a late-1990s ambiance sit at the corners, and while the Concept EQG does have a rear spare tire carrier, you probably notice it's not shaped like a tire. In reality, it's an external storage box that pays homage to the traditional G-Class in appearance, but trades the tire for items such as charging cables. Speaking of which, how does the Concept EQG put power to the ground? Mercedes isn't ready to share details like horsepower or range just yet, but we're told this concept uses four electric motors mounted close to the wheels. Each motor can operate independently to give the EQG "unique driving characteristics." The driveline also features a shiftable two-speed gearbox that basically gives you a crawler gear for tricky off-road situations. Being a near-production concept, there will be some changes before the EQG becomes official. There is no timeframe for when that will happen, but when it does, Mercedes pledges it will pass the same tests and conquer the same terrain as all the previous internal-combustion G-Wagens that came before.
  4. With a new Land Rover Defender due in 2017 (the current one bows out of the market next year), Mercedes-Benz will reportedly introduce a major update to its G-Class around the same time in order to keep the rivalry between the ultimate utilities alive. While the new Defender will be an all-new model, complete with new styling, engines and underpinnings, the G-Class is only expected to receive an update, though the changes to the vehicle are said to be so extensive they could be considered a complete redesign. The information was revealed by insiders to Drive, which reports that engineers are focused on improving the G-Class’s stability, both on and off the road. Expect to see a wider track, made necessary by wider wheels and new suspension designed to boost interior space. Increased aluminum and high-strength steel will also be utilized to help shed weight, possibly reducing the current model’s 5,665-lb curb weight by as much as 440 pounds. Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force off-road concept The updated G-Class will also benefit from Mercedes-Benz’s latest tech, including electronic power steering, new driver assistance features and the latest in connectivity and infotainment. Interestingly, we hear that 2012’s Ener-G-Force concept car will influence some of the vehicle’s exterior styling, although the classic boxy look should remain. As for the powertrains, look for the German automaker’s new straight-six gasoline and diesel units. These will displace 3.0 liters and deliver up to 360 horsepower in some guises thanks to turbocharging and direct fuel injection. Of course, more powerful AMG variants will still be on offer, as they currently account for more than 50 percent of G-Class sales worldwide.
