  6. Here's some good news instead of the usual crap http://mypaper.sg/top-stories/festive-wheels-kindness-20140205 ^ THIS is good upbringing. Not some stupid girl who show half-ball in TNP. A FAMILY of four's random act of kindness to a pair of elderly strangers this Chinese New Year season has gone viral online. On Saturday, advertising executive Pann Lim and his family were travelling on the hilly roads of Opera Estate when they saw two elderly people stuck on the pavement. Mr Koh Yam Kun, 78, was having problems pushing his friend, Madam Tan Beng Poh, 72, who was seated in a wheelchair. Mr Koh and Madam Tan were on one of their regular walks, but this was the first time they were venturing through Opera Estate. Mr Lim's wife, Claire, who was driving, immediately stopped the car and Mr Lim went out to help the elderly man. But the wheelchair was in bad shape and the tyres gave way soon after. Mr Lim called a taxi to send the friends back to their home in Chai Chee. The next day, Mr Lim's two children - Renn, 10, and Aira, seven - decided to pool their red-packet money to buy the elderly pair a new wheelchair. They delivered it to the friends' one-room flat. The wheelchair cost approximately $350, wiping out most of what Renn and Aira had collected. While at the pair's block, Mr Lim's family also distributed red packets to other residents, including a family with five children living in a single-room flat. Mrs Lim wrote a post about the incident on the family's Facebook page on Monday. By press time, more than 5,400 people liked the post, which garnered nearly 700 shares and 300 comments praising the family's deed. Mr Lim, an award-winning advertising veteran, said it was a natural instinct for his family to help the pair. "When we saw them on the road... we did not even discuss what to do. It just felt right to stop the car and help them," he said, adding that his family has plans to visit the pair again in the near future to see how they are doing. Mr Koh and Madam Tan live together in the flat, but are just friends. "We are brother and sister in Christ," said Mr Koh in Mandarin, when MyPaper interviewed him. They had met in church a few years ago when Mr Koh, a divorcee, found out that Madam Tan, who is single, was wheelchair-bound and requires someone to take care of her. Mr Koh used to live with his son-in-law but has since moved in with Madam Tan to tend to her illnesses. She suffers from high blood pressure, a weak heart and diabetes. They survive on government handouts and a small allowance provided by Mr Koh's children. Madam Tan has no children. Mr Koh added that he is "immensely grateful to Mr Lim and family" and that he is "touched that so many people are willing to help the needy". [email protected]
  7. If you must drink, don't DRIVE! Be responsible, don't kill someone's family member!
  8. Dear bros and sis, my air conditioning systems just broke down. Can someone please tell me where i can get people to fix it during this festive season? I need the aircon badly, because my wife just gave birth yesterday, and according to customs, she is not allowed to use the fan. The aircon was okay the day before, and it had to break down now. thanks in advance...
  9. Anyone got the address? Christmas goodies cakes n kweuy kweuy. Saw the tv news....got free sample....looks good!
  10. Only ION, Tangs and arguably Wisma bothered to put up a show. Even then, it's still a far cry from the 80s / 90s when every building went all out to decorate for X'mas and CNY. The street lighting of purple / blue also makes the place look moody.
  11. hi all, came across on on ST, pg C18 "Pioneer Annual festive sale" i went to the website and cannot find anything on it. called them up and they said it is not uploaded yet?!! ( and they dare to publish on a national paper) Then i checked what is the offer/discount as it was stated both house and in-car entertainment selections. The reply was that there are only free gifts and not discounts?!!( so why was it called a sale in the first place?) AND only house entertainment available in this "sale" !?!? So i was kind of disappointed by all these from a major player. I guess only when the actual thing is "uploaded" then we can judge further.
  12. Guys, I think it is important to drive safely and not recklessly though you are really rushing for time cos the importance of your family members with you in the car is more important than you really late for your New Year Visiting. I have seen many drivers still drive like rushing to work cutting lanes after lanes, there are many new drivers on the road as well during this period so we have to spare a thought for them too. There are many accidents during this period and I saw 3-4 vehicles involved in the accident along PIE towards Changi near the Steven Road exit, guess you also need the car for your New Year Visiting and it is avoidable if everyone practise safe and patient driving. It is Better to be Late than Never Reached.
  13. There must be at least 50,00 to 100,000 cars who travelled North between Xmas and New Year long holidays. Please poll and discuss your 'wonderful' experiences . Msian TP has always been my favourite topic of discussion.
