The police were alerted to the accident around 5.30 pm, and the two ambulances were dispatched to take 2 people to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. What happened? Phoo Yi Lin, 26, admitted on Monday to driving the white BMW M4 in a dangerous manner at around 5.35am on Feb 13, 2021. This was prior to the incident where another driver caused a fatal crash that claimed 5 lives. It was not disclosed if Ms Phoo was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, but District Judge Salina Ishak noted that Phoo had consumed alcohol before she drove the car that morning. Ms Phoo and her friends drove around the Tanjong Pagar area, taking turns at the wheel to see who could drive the car the fastest. She clocked 109km/h to 130km/h, but dashcam footage from a taxi in the area suggests that she may have hit 181km/h as well. The speed limit for that area is 50km/h. The prosecutor requested for the maximum fine of S$5,000 to be meted out to Phoo. This is considering that a cyclist and at least two pedestrians were present when she sped the car down the road. People charged for dangerous driving face up to 12 months in jail, a $5,000 fine or both. Ms Phoo’s sentence was a $5,000 fine and a 3 month ban from driving. Her lawyer pleaded with the court to “give her a chance”, adding that she had lost her job and had lost a number of friends due to the accident. On 16 March she requested to leave Singapore, but her application was rejected as she was considered a flight risk facing a serious offence. Online chatter Many people were amazed that she did not get any jail time. Some people also called into question if the ban on driving would be any good, or if it was even harsh enough. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Fatal accident at Woodlands: Van hits baby stroller with a child inside
Fadevfast posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
A van hit a child in a baby stroller today at a carpark in Woodlands St 32, resulting in the death of the child and injuries for their brother and mother. What happened? It is believed that the mother was beside the red taxi shown in the video, pushing the stroller out of the carpark. A loud bang was heard when the van hit the stroller, and onlookers rushed to help. An ambulance was called immediately but to no avail as the child had already passed away. The mother was seen screaming and crying in despair. The child’s brother was in a similarly distraught state, jumping up and down helplessly. Facebook users gave the family their condolences and prayers. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. On Monday (May 31) at around 4:25 p.m., a 14-year-old male cyclist met with a fatal accident with a Malaysian-registered trailer along Marina East Drive. According to the CNA article, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. He had been riding a fixie bike, also known as a fixed-gear bike or a brakeless bicycle, which meant that the bicycle did not have any brakes. The Ministry of Transport announced the ban of such bicycles on public paths and roads in January this year. The 37-year-old trailer driver has been arrested for careless driving causing death. The photographs of the accident site posted onto SG Road Vigilante's Facebook shows the mangled bicycle torn into pieces. A screenshot of the trailer driver's outstanding traffic police fines was also posted on Facebook, showing that he had an unpaid amount of $600 from 2019. We offer our deepest condolences to the cyclist's family and hope that both drivers and cyclists will take more caution while on the road.

Lorry Driver Who Lied About Having Class 3 Licence Pleads Guilty For Causing Fatal Yio Chu Kang Accident source: https://mustsharenews.com/yio-chu-kang-accident/ The driver crashed into a father-daughter pair and their family friend. Lorry Driver In Fatal Yio Chu Kang Accident Guilty Of Driving Without A Valid Licence On 23 April 2018, 27-year-old Xu Kai Xiang was driving a lorry along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into three pedestrians. All three died instantly at the scene. Xu, who was driving his father’s company lorry, admitted today (14 Oct) to driving without a valid licence, according to a report by The Straits Times. Lied to father about licence validity The report also stated that Xu had been ferrying the company’s workers daily since 8 April, just over 2 weeks prior. His father had entrusted him with the lorry as he believed that his son possessed a Class 3 licence. Unbeknownst to the elder Xu, his son who had applied and obtained a Class 3 Provisional Driving Licence, only took his practical driving test in automatic transmission vehicles. One would need a Class 3 licence, which allows a person to drive a car with manual transmission and a clutch pedal, to drive large vehicles like lorries. Charge for causing deaths still pending Xu initially faced a fine of $1,400 and a year-long driving ban for driving the lorry without a valid licence and insurance. A third charge for causing the deaths of the pedestrians is under review, pending the result of a coroner’s inquiry. If the evidence proves to be against Xu, the court can prosecute him for the offence later. Be a responsible driver It’s essential to adhere to the limitations of the type of licence that you have and not be complacent with your driving skills. A careless mistake can sometimes lead to a tragedy. Remember to abide by the traffic laws as well when you’re on the roads.

Actor Paul Walker — a self-styled adrenaline junkie best known for his role in “The Fast and the Furious” movies — was killed Saturday in a fiery single-car wreck in Southern California. A statement on the actor’s Facebook page said he was a passenger in a friend’s car, and that Walker was in the area to attend a charity event for his organisation Reach Out Worldwide. According to fire officials, the single vehicle crash happened at around 3:30 p.m. local time in the Rye Canyon Business Park. A red Porsche struck a light pole and a tree. Two occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. A message posted late Saturday on Walker’s official Facebook page read: ”We too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news. Thank you for keeping his family and friends in your prayers during this very difficult time.” The L.A. County Sheriff’s Traffic Services Detail and County Coroner are investigating the cause of the accident. It said deputies found a car engulfed in flames when they responded to a report of a collision. Images showed the burned-out wreckage of a red Porsche sports car by the side of the road. "It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organisation Reach Out Worldwide," the statement on the actor's Facebook page said. "He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives. We... are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news.'' Universal Pictures also issued a statement, saying studio staff were "heartbroken" by Walker's death. "Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the Fast & Furious films, and to countless fans. "We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."

An ordinary Singaporean has a lot of concerns on his mind which could include his child's education, cost of living and job stability. However, it is best to put all these concerns away temporarily while driving. According to an analysis of the US national crash data, more fatal car crashes are caused by drivers who are 'lost in thought' rather than using a mobile phone. To be exact, 10 percent of the fatal accidents in the US involve at least one driver who is distracted and 62 percent of the distraction had to do with daydreaming and 'lost in thought'. Mobile phone usage constituted 12 percent. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety advised drivers to stay focused on the dangers of the road by playing the 'what if' game and asking themselves how they would react to unexpected events on the road. The foundation said that drivers should treat driving as a complicated task requiring full attention. Other significant distractions include rubbernecking, having a conversation with the passengers, eating and moving an object.
